Gruffer and more evolved, Jersey's finest half-punk, half-rock band The Gaslight Anthem return with their fourth LP, Handwritten , the group's most cohesive and self-effacing release to date. Right from the get-go, Handwritten hits a grand slam with the exemplary opening single "453 , an impressively polished and stirring break-up rock anthem (a track that inadvertently echoes the better days of Yellowcard , in all the best ways). This [...]
Listen below to a new single from The Gaslight Anthem , "453 , which will appear on their upcoming album "Handwritten" . The Gaslight Anthem returns with their first new material since 20102s "American Slang" . The band, most popular for their hit single "'59 Sound" , will be releasing their fourth full-length album, "Handwritten" , via Mercury Records . "453 is filled with a fusion of punk, blues rock, and folk, in a typical Gaslight Anthem fashion. [...]

On July 24th, New Jersey rockers the Gaslight Anthem will be unveiling their fourth album and first since joining Mercury Records, Handwritten . And with it, the band plans on reverting back to their punkier roots, despite all the acclaim that followed the more mature, more mellow American Slang that saw its release back in 2010. Our first taste arrives with the stunning "453, which was recorded early in the Handwritten sessions. Frontman Brian Fallon revealed to RollingStone , "This song felt to us like we still had something to [...]

Having conquered festivals and finding themselves inviting their hero - The Boss - onstage, The Gaslight Anthem seemed to lose their way on American Slang , their second album and the follow-up to breakthrough 2008 record The '59 Sound . Well they are back again with new album Handwritten which is due out 23rd July and new single 45 and to our ears it sounds like a bonafide Gaslight classic. Uptempo and extremely loud, its refreshing to hear a guitar band stick to what they know and love rather than [...]
Emotions are mixed as they always are when leaving one place behind to face something completely unknown but I'm a major advocate for change and more-so pro anti-regrets

Tweet Purchase the album – MP3 / CD “Mainly in relationships, we end up the devourer or the devoured.” So described Brian Fallon , back in January, his side project, The Horrible Crowes . “That's what we're singing about, it's the darker side of soul music, it's slow, it slithers, and it's raw. At the same time, the melodies and pianos are a juxtaposition to the topic material because [...]
This video for The Gaslight Anthem's American Slang title track certainly plays at their strengths both musically and visually. It’s dreary, dystopian, and downright despondent, but not without a hint of working mans’ pride and charm the boys have always proudly championed. It also serves as a lovely black and white journey through the streets of downtown NYC, if you're into that sort of thing. (Via: SPIN )
Our editor and resident Pearl Jam aficionado is out of the office today. Acting in his stead, we bring you this Jimmy Fallon clip of wistful Jersey rocker's The Gaslight Anthem covering PJ's "State of Love and Trust." Trying to replicate Vedder's distinct voice has to feel a bit sacrilegious to the band's many megafans out there, but Brian Fallon (Fallon squared!) gives it a pretty fair shake here. (Via Spin )

On the surface, The Gaslight Anthem are a deceptively simple band, playing class American rock anthems heavily indebted to fellow New Jersey rocker Bruce Springsteen. But there's a note of nostalgia in their most upbeat, fist-pumping songs, celebrating the romance of youth even as they mourn its loss and the subsequent disillusionment in the face of life's disappointments. After their rough-edged, punk-tinged 2007 debut "Sink Or Swim", the group released the EP "Senor And The Queen" in 2008, following it up in the same year with "The '59 Sound" . This album displayed a smoother, more commercial sound, [...]

On a cultural level, Snooki and crew may not have done much to create the most meaningful or sobering images of New Jersey in the last year. So it's a good thing we once again have the wistful tales of Brian Fallon to balance our imagery of the Garden State. Gaslight Anthem's new album, American Slang , is streaming on NPR til' the record drops next week. The Springsteen vibes of their previous releases are definitely still there, but no one was really arguing that was a bad thing.
