Dark Horse is honored to announce a dream project: working with J.W. Rinzler, executive editor at LucasBooks, and artist Mike Mayhew (Avengers) to adapt the rough-draft original screenplay which spawned the biggest franchise in film history! Three years before his 1977 film, George Lucas put down on paper his first story set in a galaxy far, far away—a tale of fantastic adventures, daring escapes, “lazer swords,” romance, and monsters. A story of Jedi Annikin Starkiller and General Luke Skywalker, an alien named Han Solo, and evil Sith Knights. The screenplay was titled The Star Wars! “I’m [...]

Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, and Lawrence Kasdan met over several days in 1978 to spitball ideas for a movie about an adventurous archaeologist whose weapon of choice was a bullwhip. The New Yorker has a nice recap of the transcript of that spitballing session for what eventually became Indiana Jones, obviously. I love the quote by Spielberg that the two were essentially inventing not only the modern blockbuster with Indiana Jones, but also designing a ride at Disneyland. In an era when Disneyland rides really do become movie franchises and movies become rides [...]

We know Disney bought the Star Wars empire . Then, we learned what a good guy George Lucas was when he announced he'd be donating that $4 billion to educational charities. The final piece of that equation has always been what happens to the Star Wars universe in terms of movies, video games, TV shows - basically it was the creative storytelling side that remained the biggest unknown. Now, we have answer. George Lucas sat down to talk with newly appointed LucasFilm president Kathleen Kennedy (basically, Lucas' right-hand woman all these years) [...]
“As technology changes, so do students. So should classrooms, and so should our methods of teaching. In a few short years, connectivity has gone from a technological novelty to a daily necessity. It’s how our culture communicates, and our children are at the forefront of its use. Understanding those tools – and how to integrate them into learning – is an integral step in defining our future.” - George Lucas , revealing his plan to give nearly all of the $4 billion raised by his sale of LucasFilms to educational charities.
Everybody OK out there? I'm not talking about Hurricane Sandy Cohen, but rather the collective force of the news cycle yesterday, when word broke that George Lucas sold the rights to the Star Wars franchise to Disney and that NBC ... Continue reading

Disney has agreed to purchase LucasFilm for a paltry $4.05 billion . That's the headline news in a nutshell. But the sound you hear is me hyperventilating and trying to wrap my noggin' around this. For the past 35 years, one of my greatest pleasures has been to see Star Wars passed from one generation to the next,” said George Lucas, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Lucasfilm. “It’s now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers. I’ve always believed that Star Wars could live beyond me, and I [...]

It's hard to imagine anyone other than Harrison Ford playing the role of scruffy nerf herder Han Solo, but thanks to Brow Beat we can contemplate what Star Wars would have been like had Kurt Russell - every bit the rogue that Ford is - been cast as Han Solo and had William Katt (The Greatest American Hero, Carrie) been cast as Luke Skywalker. Incredibly, I previously wrote about Kurt Russell as Han Solo in 2009 .
The stunning dream pop of BEACH HOUSE 's 'Lazuli,' as described HERE , with its sci-fi, sound-effectish keyboard introduction is beautifully complimented by a retro cum space-age film clip. Think pastel kitchen and explosive eggs juxtaposed against grim junkyard chic, morphing into futuristic triangular graphics. A girl in a sundress spasm-dancing in front of a static TV (not of the plasma variety) is juxtaposed against a red-nosed drunk in a dingy pub wandering zombie-like into a George Lucas landscape towards a burning bright light. The [...]

Chequen videos e imágenes a continuación.

The “Artoo Tutu” comes from J!NX designer Leeloo . I'm almost a bit surprised George Lucas hasn't already approved a Star Wars ballet, or a show from Cirque du Soleil. The sad thing is, based on the tingling sensation the above images causes and my love for Star Wars, I would certainly pay good money to see a Star Wars ballet, even though I know it would just be the latest in a long line of cash grabs by Lucas. This would go well with the Star Wars bathing suites that debuted last year. [via fashionablygeek ]
Many Star Wars purists aren't happy with George Lucas right now.
Tomorrow the Metallica of filmmakers, George Lucas, will re-release his catastrophically bad Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace in 3D, I guess because there's nothing like sitting through a terrible two-and-a-half hour movie in the worst format available. The silver lining, though, is that someone has taken the trailer and re-done it with death metal [...]

CGI technicians the world over are weeping at the news that George Lucas ' next film looks set to be his last ever blockbuster. A lengthy profile in the New York Times this week has seen Lucas claim he's planning his retirement, now that his new forthcoming film, Red Tails is finally about to see the light of day. "I'm moving away from the business, from the company, from all this kind of stuff," he told the paper. "All [...]
