Ghost Estates are joining forces with fellow Dubliners Twinkranes for Record Store Day split 7″. Ghost Estates' contribution, ‘In Waves’ is their first release since their excellent self-titled debut album from last year. Ghost Estates are in fine form once more, losing none of the sparkle that made their debut so good. ‘In Waves’ combines a super catchy chorus, [...]
Ghost Estates are in full-on Bloc Party mode for their Record Store Day split 73 with Twinkranes. Their first new music since their self-titled debut last year, 'In Waves' finds the band in ebullient mood, with everything combining to make an almost cacophanous sound. "It comes, then it waits, and [Read more]
Pretty self explanatory this one. There's been a lot of great music released in Ireland over the past 12 months & here's ten Irish albums I've enjoyed the most in 2012. You can also check out the 'Albums of 2012' & 'Irish Songs of 2012' if you want. 10. The Expert - 'Neckbreakers' Not strictly an album, more of [...]
It's that time of year when every music website, publication and blog (including this one) are busy compiling end of year lists. This time around, I thought I’d shift the focus to the bands and artist's who've played a 'BarryGruff Presents' show this year and ask them for their 'favourite album of 20122, 'favourite song of 20122 [...]

In it's 10th year Hard Working Class Heroes takes place this Thursday through to Saturday in six Dublin venues hosting 100 bands. It's a convention that allows a binge musical feast for journalists, bloggers, enthusiasts and fans. HWCHs promises much but does it reward the VIPs it's suppose to reward and that is the bands and artists who have worked up a sweat practicing and preparing for their big break? http://hwch.net/bands_2012.htm l Recommended bands to see are [...]
Hard Working Class Heroes has announced its near-complete compliment of bands and performers for this year's outing. Celebrating its 10th-year anniversary, the annual showcase arrives with more new acts than any previous year; nearly half the line-up are making their HWCH debut. The festival runs over three nights and six venues (The Button Factory, The Mercantile, The Grand Social, Twisted Pepper, Meeting House Square and The Workman’s Club) from October 4th to 6th and tickets are still available here and from the usual places. Here is the line-up: A [...]
We have just passed midway point of the year so what better time to take a look at my favourite albums of the year so far? So, yeah, here are my ten albums from the first half of 2012 and as always, feel free to give a shout out to some of your own favourites [...]

The stylistically diverse songs that Ghost Estates debuted over the last year or so make much more sense in the context of their debut album. 'Paris' had a new wave streak and a serious sax solo; 'October' was more of a sky-reaching guitar anthem than anything else and 'Forever Or Never' was a direct to the heart indie-rock track so it was hard to know where this band stood, especially as they were formed from two very different bands - Sickboy and 8ball. The self-titled debut album reveals a band in exploratory form and [...]

A non-album track gets video treatment by Ruairi Galavan. The debut Ghost Estates album is out in Ireland on June 9 on Slap In The Face Records.

Here's the top 50 acts in Ireland according to my humble tastes. The list acts as a guide to the music which excites me at this moment in time. It excludes bands not currently working in Ireland or who have been dormant for some time. So in basic terms here's a list of bands to watch out for on a random night in Dublin, Cork, Galway, Dundalk etc .... 50. Heritage Centre http://www.facebook.com/theher itagecentre [...]

Part three of my random post where I get two different singles and compare and contrast for the craic! Preachers Son - Come On Dublin rockers Preachers Son released a rich deep debut album in 2010 and they've followed it with a new single 'Come On'. It's a track that is a short spunky rocking tune which like the accompanying video doesn't take itself seriously at all. It's high on entertainment value and showcases Brian's fantastic vocals! It's three minutes [...]
Last June I introduced Dublin five-piece Ghost Estates. They're gearing up for the release of their debut album and above is the video for 'October'. It's a huge tune, a massive statement of intent that mixes driving drums with a chorus so big that you'll be shouting it back at [Read more]
