[photo by nyctaper] When I first saw Math the Band , in an opening slot for Anamanaguchi at Music Hall a couple of years ago, I knew I would have to see them and record them again. That 2011 recording was just not high enough quality to post, and it frankly failed to capture the crazy energy of the performance. Friday night at Glasslands , that energy was on display again and thankfully the stars aligned to produce a faithful recording of their fun and crazy set. Math the Band has been around [...]

by Bill Pearis I get the feeling Reggie Watts just loves performing and will play anywhere. He's headlined Webster Hall but will show up at Cameo and do a whole set too. He's got a few tour dates this month including an NYC show at Glasslands on 1/13 with with Shining Mirrors and Baby Alpaca . Tickets for that show are on sale now. [...]

Twin Sister at Bowery Ballroom in 2011 ( more by Jessica Amaya ) There have been countless Hurricane Sandy relief benefits in NYC in the over-a-month since the storm hit and, fortunately as they're needed, there's no sign that they'll be stopping any time soon. There's one going down at Glasslands on December 17 with Chairlift, Twin Sister, Empress Of, Slowdance, Jason McMahon, and a DJ set from Ice Choir (aka Kurt Feldman of The Pains of Being Pure at Heart). [Photos by acidjack] If you read this site regularly, it should be pretty clear by now that we just can't say enough good things about the Brooklyn band The Loom , who we've been fans of for four years now. We continue to watch this band grow, develop and change, evolving and tweaking their sound and taking their music in new directions. What has not changed over those four years is the high quality of this band's live shows, or their kindness and generosity as performers. This year has found the Loom completing a touring cycle for [...]

I reviewed Disclosure’s first US show at Glasslands’s Gallery in Brooklyn for The Line of Best Fit . It’s about zombies. Check it out HERE .
[Photos by acidjack] Vetiver aren't the kind of band you usually find at the top of the bill on a Friday night at Glasslands . The Williamsburg club is best known for cutting-edge young rock and wild DJ nights - all good things, but not exactly this band's style. Vetiver, on the other hand, seems at times to come from a different era, with a measured, melodic 60s-inspired sound that has more to do with Simon and Garfunkel and the Grateful Dead than what's is trending in Brooklyn right now. They are a grown-up [...]
[Photos by acidjack] Cold Showers come from LA, but their influences hail from less sunny shores. Stylistically, they're a Manchester band through and through, with a heavy nod to Joy Division in particular. Lead singer Jonathan Weinberg (also drummer of La Sera ) anchors the proceedings with his deep baritone, backed by insistent keys and swirling guitars for the full post-punk effect. Opening for The Soft Moon at Glasslands to an already-full venue, Cold Showers dispensed with the bullshit and launched right into "Alight", which should appear on their forthcoming LP on [...]

Last Monday night I caught California indie-pop band Craft Spells at Glasslands in Williamsburg. The Justin Vallestero-fronted band was joined by Ice Choir (Underwater Peoples) with an appearance by Chairlift 's Caroline Polachek, and Brooklyn's Ski Lodge ( Dovecote ). Check out a round of up tunes from all three bands below!

Tonight, a menajorie of marauding bands of rowdy men are in it for nothing but outrageous, nonsensical, and wholehearted fun. Best described by themselves as bands that are part "gym class-meets-group therapy," they're songs are simplistic in melody, straightforward in lyrics, and full of heart. Their live performances are loads of cardio and laughter. This show will be nothing short of a chaotic jamboree. Come join us tonight (9/25/2012) in Brooklyn, New York at The Glasslands Gallery as we team up with PopGun to present Rich Aucoin, Stepdad and Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt! Tickets are $10 advance, $12 [...]

[Photos courtesy of Eric Groom Photography ] The tastemaking label Captured Tracks has developed a unique ability to find bedroom recording projects and other oddball solo visions that are capable of being something more. The Bay Area band The Soft Moon was originally such a project from frontman/guitarist Luis Vasquez, and that was the genesis of the band's breakout debut LP, The Soft Moon . Seeing the band live at Glasslands this past Thursday, with the benefit of hindsight, it's hard to see how Vasquez could not have pictured those [...]
