Close your eyes and take yourself back 82 years ago. The year is 1931, two years after the worst stock market crash in US history, and you are 145 miles east of Atlanta, Georgia and only two miles west of the South Carolina border. Walk down a short par-4 length road aligned with picturesque magnolia trees and you will find a man overlooking a 365-acre parcel of land. That man? Robert Tyre “Bobby” Jones Jr. The land? Augusta National Golf Club. As much as we would like to believe it, Augusta National has not been nurtured and cared [...]

Though a lot more serious (deadpan?) than the miniature golf course in the Basement of Ahlgrim’s Funeral Home , the new 820 sq. ft. green and fairway at Sunset Hills Memorial Park in Bellevue definitely falls into the same world. They're both functional. But where the Ahlgrim's mini course serves to comfort the grieving children and provide a little escape, Sunset Hills is a full-on cemetery with 1,281 plots and a vault for cremated remains (accessible through the golf hole itself). Arne Swanson, Sunset Hills' funeral home marketing director, explained the concept to [...]

Here’s Your Office Golf Putt Of The Year
Not sure who this guy is or what his occupation is, but this video of him sinking a putt in what appears to be his office building is pretty damn cool. Granted, this was probably the eighth hundred take before he finally nailed it, but hey...he did it, and I'm impressed. That's one way to enjoy your lunch break. [ With Leather ]
Lazing On A Sunny Afternoon
Sunny Afternoon - The Kinks Well, it was actually cloudy. Bad start. It was Sunday though, yesterday in fact. And I was lazing. Full on. Pants off. Couch on. Watching The Masters on TV. Adam Scott and Angel Cabrera battling it out for the green jacket. It's about half three in the afternoon. Tired enough [...]

Condi Gets a Green Jacket
Augusta National, site of the famous Masters golf tournament, will admit its first female members after 80 years as being exclusive to the Y Chromosome. Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and South Carolina tycoon Darla Moore will become the first female members in October. Former club chairman Hootie Johnson, said infamously in 2002 that Augusta might one day have a woman in a green jacket, “but not at the point of a bayonet.” Condoleezza Rice is great choice for Augusta. Charlie LeDuff Golfs Across The City Of Detroit
Charlie Leduff is a Detroit-based journalist, probably best known for his 2011 article Mother Jones about the death of Aiyana Mo'nay Stanley-Jones . His latest piece on Detroit is a bit lighter, but still worthy of your time. LeDuff golfed his way across Detroit, setting up a single, 18-mile long golf hole. t’s a par 3,168, 18-mile, single hole course. The 46-year-old Pulitzer Prize winning writer carries only four clubs in his bag while facing extraordinary hazards that took years to form. He strokes his way through grassy fields, abandoned houses and crumbling landmarks. The half-way [...]
Gordon in the morning: Clubbable
I wonder how Gordon Smart managed to convince himself that people are ringing on Brad Pitt's door, asking him to play golf is a true story. A source said:[...] “Neighbours have buzzed on their intercom and asked if Brad wants to play golf at a nearby course. They have even offered to lend him clubs in case he hasn’t got any.” What neighbourhood does this actually happen in? Outside of the 1950s? -- Visit No Rock & Roll Fun to comment, complain and kvetch
“Are you writing a book?”
Today is foggy and damp with rain expected. I noticed stalwart golfers when I drove pass the course. Some were pulling their clubs while others rode golf carts with the striped awning tops. In the fog, I could only see the golfers closest to me. The others were mere outlines. When I crossed the bridge over the river, the houses along its banks were barely visible. It started to rain a bit as I turned onto my street. As I was driving home, I saw a car with only one lit headlight and right away I said padiddle [...]

Alice Cooper: Golf, and not golf
Alice Cooper's well-documented love of golf causes some sort of problem. How does what is perhaps the world's dullest activity fit with the carefully marketed stage image of Alice Cooper? He's got a workaround : He told BANG Showbiz: "Alice hates golf. Alice the character hates golf. I love golf but he hates it. That's why I'll never do a golf DVD - nobody wants to see me play golf, they want to see Alice play golf, but he hates it." This sounds a bit like a child trying to blame their imaginary friend [...]
