Our best wishes and healing vibes go out to Hallie Crawford, the 22-month-old daughter of Avett Brothers' stand-up bassist Bob Crawford, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor following a recent seizure and stroke. Crawford shared the news about his daughter on the Avett's website and also mentioned he was taking a leave of absence from the band. Let's hope Bobby returns to the stage soon, which would mean Hallie is well on the road to recovery. Nels Cline played Duane Allman's Gold [...]

In an effort to attract younger audiences to the theater, producers of Broadway musicals have looked at past Hollywood movies to stage a number of new shows over the last decade or so to various degrees of success. The latest film to be mined for The Great White Way, is one near and dear to my heart, as yesterday it was announced that Sheryl Crow will be teaming up with Barry Levinson to turn his 1982 coming of age movie Diner into a musical that is set to debut in the fall of 2012. According to a [...]

This weekend, the Dave Matthews Band will return to New York City with their traveling multi-day festival - Caravan - after Hurricane Irene forced the postponement of its final two days several weeks back. Moving just a bit north up the East River from Governor's Island to Randall's Island, the fest will retain its three-day format, where the DMB will be joined by the likes of Dispatch, who will play on Friday and Saturday nights, Warren Haynes, who will perform a special solo set, and vintage jam act From Good Homes. Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds [...]
The video for "Good" by The Dodos is like a psychedelic Rorschach test.

Back in early May, HT faves the Felice Brothers released their latest studio album, Celebration Florida , the group's first LP for Fat Possum Records. For the price of your email address, the band will share a new track each week over the course of five weeks, which began last Wednesday, that you can download for [...]

On November 8, singer-songwriter Laura Veirs will release her first album of children's music called Tumble Bee: Laura Veirs Sings Folk Songs For Children . Inspired by the birth of their son, Veirs and her longtime producer Martine Tucker dove head first into the history of children's folk music to select songs for the 13-track album, which range from the traditional to contemporary from the likes of Woody Guthrie, Peggy Seeger and Harry Belafonte. The album will also feature an impressive array of guest spots that include Jim James, Bela Fleck and Colin [...]

The Dodos are a hit or miss with their videos. "Fables" from 20092s Time To Die was boring, "Companions" was great, "Black Night" was interesting in a head scratching kind of way and both "Fools" and "Good" are just kind of eh. See yourself below. The other news is that The Dodos are giving away a free album that they recorded in Amsterdam last May. The track just costs an email but that email will be entered into a drawing to win tickets to every date on their [...]

Last month saw the release of "Rain On The Humming Wire", the new album from The Panics . I'm still digesting it and getting to know it better, but I absolutely love the opening track. "Majesty" is aptly titled, a slice of greatness. Next week sees the release of "Yearlings", album number two from Sydney's Dead Letter Chorus . Here is their brand new single and video for "All Mine". It's wonderful.

With the Grateful Dead's massive, drool-inducing Europe '72 box set set to finally roll out this fall, the band's 22-date tour will once again be mined for a scaled-down companion release for those that didn't want to pony up for all 73 discs. The latest compendium will come in the form of a 2-disc set simply dubbed Europe '72, Vol. 2 , and will feature 22 previously unreleased tracks, as well as new cover art by Stanley Mouse. According to the Dead's archivist David Lemieux, who compiled the released, "This album, coupled with Europe ’72, represents a [...]

I met Rude One properly for the first time in the summer of 2008. "You're Rude One?" I asked while standing outside the Double Door, waiting for Dilated Peoples to finish their soundcheck, so that we could interview them prior to their performance that night. "Yeah," he replied, and told me about his after party that night with Alchemist at Lava Lounge. I told him I was well aware, and had seen several flyers for The Goodness over the last year, his monthly party that featured sets by Hip Hop's DJ elite. I went to The Goodness that night at [...]
