So I am seeing Swedish House Mafia at MSG this Friday, and I am completely ready for a mainstream, history-making set. However, I can assure you this Verboten party will be groovier and better in many facets. Seth Troxler was recently named #2 in the Resident Advisor 2011 poll, which is essentially the DJ Mag poll of the underground universe. He recently founded his label Visionquest along with some of his buddies, and the group was immensely successful in Ibiza this season. His essential mix has over 50,000 plays, and he cites his influences as "the chirping of [...]

Energy levels were high and HiFi was on a mission to catch as much music possible for the eve. Le Passion Rouge was first on the list. We made our way through the doors with plenty of time to down a few Vodka-RedBulls during happy [...]

Last Saturday, Verboten orchestrated yet another magnificent event, bringing Damian Lazarus and Stacey Pullen to the decks at subterranean Good Units. Damian Lazarus is above all else known for his sense of playfulness and knack for experimentation, and his set last Saturday presented a perfect example of that. He took the crowd through different styles of techno, minimal and deep house, whilst thoroughly enjoying himself in the process, clearly throwing himself into the music and moving along with his audience. Detroit's Stacey Pullen closed out the night, and rather than ease the crowd down and back to reality, he kept [...]

Photo: Matt Fried for Gradient Magazine This Saturday, August 6, Verboten proudly welcomes Crosstown Records head honcho Damian Lazarus to Good Units, where he's joined by Detroit techno pioneer Stacey Pullen . With the massive success of Damian's record label and Get Lost WMC party, combined with the amazing music that attendees of Movement and FROLIC know Pullen is known for, this looks to be an epic Verboten event. Starting off the night is longtime flawless friend Delete aka Sergio Munoz (Crosstown Rebels, Get Physical), debuting his newest project Fur Coat . [...]

At this point, I'm fairly certain it's no big secret that I'm a bit of a fangirl when it comes to Claude VonStroke, Justin Martin, and the rest of the Dirtybird gang. After all, I'm a California girl at heart so it's only natural that the concoction of brilliant tech house with a splash of west coast flavor hits the spot. Add to that the fact that I've never been to a Verboten party that I didn't love, and you can imagine my excitement building as last Saturday night drew ever closer. [...]

This weekend is a big one for NYC's musically inclined, with events packed in from Thursday through Sunday. Whether you favor progressive, bass driven beats in a small, dark venue or tend to be drawn to tech house and a huge dancefloor, there's something for everyone to enjoy. I hope you all worked hard this week, so you can play harder this weekend... ☞ Thursday, electro master Calvin Harris hits hotspot LAVO, which is sure to bring out all the beautiful people of New York club life. ☞ [...]

Funky tech house pioneer Claude VonStroke is taking control of Good Units Saturday July 30, in celebration of the imminent release of his "Makeover" compilation. He's joined by labelmates Justin and Christian Martin , keeping the groove going on GU's Dynacord system, as well as John Dill (Found Love), who will be starting the night off. These three Dirtybird mainstays are personal favorites of hours, and it's therefore a huge treat to have them all together for one night of beat bliss. Dirtybird released its first record in Janaury 2005, but the idea began in [...]
Young kids with what seems like a lot of money are going to be trying to shake up the NYC promoter pool in the coming days/months, as they've launched their own production/promotions company, and they just launched a party series under the helm of "Bass Squad", with their first party happening last night at Good... Last Friday, our buddies over at Trouble & Bass took their always awesome party to the next level, with Untold, Toddla T, Redlight, Canblaster, and of course Trouble & Bass crew members spinning some fantastic bass driven beats. They each took the audience through their own individual blends of house, dubstep and garage, bringing that low end focus that the Trouble & Bass parties are infamous for. Untold even dropped the James Blake remix of "Stop What You're Doing" to uproarious cheers from the hyped up crowd that filled the dancefloor of Good Units. We can't wait to see who Trouble [...]

In the basement of the Hudson Hotel in Midtown at their underground bunker performance space/bar Good Units, this month's edition of Dark Disco took a decidedly nasty turn as the night progressed, beginning first with the tribal selections of newcomers Rinsed, the chopped-and-screwed-and-weird bleakness of CREEP (Lauren Flax and Lauren Dillard appeared in ravey face-paint) [...]
