By Davis McGraw I suck at keeping up with new releases, but I'm a sucker for show & tell. Here are five records that I heard in 2011 and deserve a good listen. 5. Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes: Havin' A Party With Southside Johnny (1979) [Goodwill in Laconia, August] Johnny found his way into my collection near the end of a brief serendipitous streak, and for that I thank him. Much like the Boss, these boardwalk boys know their escapism back & forth. 4. Ry Cooder: Paris, Texas (1985) [Burlington Records, September] I remember watching Paris, Texas for [...]
Artists Goodwill & Hook N Sling have really taken off this year with this unbelievable track. Some of you may remember Hook N Sling from his amazing remix of "Sometimes" by Miami Horror. I love his style of production and think he is going to be a force to be reckoned with in the coming year. "Take You Higher" is definitely one of my favorte tracks this year. It brings together the happiest elements of house music with Angus and Julia Stone's beautiful vocals from "Big Jet Plane". It's a perfect combination of house and indie. [...]

Meet Goodwill and Hook N Sling. Meet your new favourite DJ's. They have sampled 'Big Jet Plane' by thebrother-sister duo Angus And Julia Stone and turned it into a folk fuelled, synth injected, stripped back song. Their version, 'Take You Higher' is pure magic. Don't you agree?

We were pleasantly surprised when we went to our mailbox today and found the 9th issue of the Goodwill Zine . Goodwill Zine is a nonprofit youth arts publication based here in Louisville. They have released issues quarterly since June 2009 with paper issues in local shops and an audio edition for the summer. We love the concept and it is another example a great outlet for artists in Louisville. It includes a full range of content, from storytelling and spoken word to "audio drama and noise." You can pick up hand stenciled CDs and [...]

Australia producers Hook N Sling & Goodwill have teamed up to bring us a soothing track titled 'Take You Higher.' Hook has a slew of big tracks including ' Start Again ' and my personal favorite his remix of La Roux's ' In For The Kill .' Enjoy Download: Beatport

A free download from Simon Sh:Out, who was here only a few days ago with his Supercharged track. He's back with a remix of Goodwill & Hook N Sling. The original track is a sort of Coldplay-lite, with synths and a vocal that reminds me of David Gray. Simon Sh:Out gives it a progressive house remix. In many ways, this is a gentle remix treatment. The structure of the song remains largely in place and the dance elements pretty restrained, apart from some swooshing, until the break finally arrives half way in. You want a bit [...]

The up and coming German DJ/Producer who goes by the name Simon Sh:Out is back with another new banger! This one has a real melodic feel to it that will be sure to have you clicking the repeat button. Goodwill and Hook N Sling- Take You Higher (Simon Sh:Out Remix) Also check out this bootleg where he takes Tim Mason's "The Moment" and blends it with Bingo Players "Take Me Over". Massive drop at 2:15. Tim Mason vs Bingo Players vs Henrik B- [...]

This week 2fer One is a spotlight on two unique progressive house tracks. The first track is from Goodwill & Hook N Sling and their track ' Take You Higher'. Electronic Dance Music producers have remixed songs from a wide variety of genres, from Pop, Hip Hop, Rock, and Alternative. But Goodwill & Hook N Sling has gone where no one has gone before and remixed a Folks and [...]

Hook N Sling & Goodwill released this progressive house track about 2 weeks ago, and I have been in love with it ever since. The vocals alone makes this song so amazing. The track samples an indie/rock song performed by Angus and Julia Stone titled "Big Jet Plane," which is a very quiet and melow number. Hook N Sling and Goodwell took the song, added their own flavor to it and created a Progressive House masterpiece. They did one hell of a job on it and I will be looking forward to [...]

Night Rumours - It's what keeps you up at night. From the basement to the bright lights - you're here today because you love dance music, and want a little more wamp. Hitting Electro, EDM, Techno and back - every week, Amperror (aka electblake ) will bring you the next wave of floor burners. It's not a sundae, it's a massacre. Ok - here we are. After 79 weeks of electro driving the seat we find ourselves in a different nation. A [...]
Two of Australia's hardest-hitting DJ's teamed up to produce this masterpiece which actually features the vocals from one of my all-time favorite songs: 'Big Jet Plane' by Angus & Julia Stone. Goodwill and Hook N' Sling reworked the original into a feel-good house track that sports refreshing vocals, melodic synths, pulsing basslines and an impressionable [...]

It is always a beautiful thing when EDM producers take influences from indie/rock bands but to go one step further into acoustic and folk can be extremely difficult to pull off. It is not about having a good bassline over the vocals, but the track has to lay carefully over the curves of the original, matching the emotion and dynamics without overpowering it with electronic synths. Goodwill & Hook N Sling have not only taken the gorgeous classic "Big Jet Plane" by rother-sister duo Angus And Julia Stone but elevated it into a much club friendly mix. Is [...]
Gonna make this quick as I've got less than a day to prepare for my travels down to South Florida. Let's start things off with my current addictions: Man is this one a banger... Can't stop playing this one in my sets, sometimes more than once Cicada - Come Together (BeatauCue Remix) Kito & Reija Lee. Just. Don't. Miss... This ones no exception, hits all the right spots. Kito & Reija Lee - Run For [...]
This one will pay off for those of you who are a little patient. Watch out for these guys from Australia. Buy this on Beatport here . Hook N Sling, Goodwill- "Take You Higher (Club Mix)"

I'm getting back into the swing of things after a little vacation over the weekend. The picture above was taken when I was backpacking in Sequoia and the trail passed by that unbelievable view. Anyway, here is some tunage to start your week off. If you have heard of Angus & Julia Stone's "Big Jet Plane," the Hook N Sling & Goodwill track, "Take You Higher," will sound very familiar. Gemini seems to never let me down with his massive, yet melodic, dubstep sound. The Brookes Brothers took drum and bass in a different, more subtle, direction with "Daybreak" and [...]

Feel good snyths, whispery vocals, one happy piano, and a vibing bassline creates a perfect melodic house track. Even has traces of sublimely simple guitar riffs. This track oozes listenability while also easily makes my list of top tracks of the summer. Cheers. -lev Take You Higher (Club Mix) - Goodwill & Hook N Sling
If you like 'chilling out' to pleasant vocals and smooth yet powerful bassline look no further than "Take You Higher" from Goodwill and Hook N Sling. As you move forward throughout the track you will love the piano build up and breakdowns, not too mention the the simple but compelling vocals - "I'm going to take you for a ride on a big jet plane." In case you don't remember this is the same tandem that brought you the amazing remix of "Blow Up" in January. N-JOY! Purchase: Beatport [...]

Goodbye Mr MacKenzie are more interesting to posterity than it seemed was the case at the time - with the Shirley Manson connection. Except to me. I had lots of their singles. But curiously none of their albums. Not sure why. They started in the mid-80s but the featured track dates from 1990. Bio: The Mackenzies left behind the most complex and fascinating footprint of any Scottish Band. Lead singer Martin Metcalfe looked like the MC of a particularly debauched cabaret, rousing a troupe that included Shirley Manson who went on to front Garbage and Big John [...]

Tiny Little Void Eyedrops It's always a nice surprise to come across something in my email inbox that is an enjoyable listen. The number of emails I get is growing, which is wonderful (not complaining), but it does take a lot of time and filtering through everything is arduous given that a lot of them don't fit what I want for the blog. It's especially nice when the email comes from someone who is clearly a pleasant individual, and as an added bonus they are a regular reader/listener of [...]
