On Sunday, December 21 , come celebrate the first night of Hanukkah at The Bell House with the folks from Gothamist and After The Jump . In an addition to a menorah lighting, you can revel in such traditional festival treats as: Egg Nog n' Maker's Mark, a 92 Christmas Tree, and Santa Claus —it'll be just like bubbie's house, but in Gowanus. Oh yeah, they'll also be performances from Tim Williams, Jennifer O'Connor, Charlie Looker (Extra Life), Henry Gummer, Chris Garneau, Graham Smith (Kleenex Girl Wonder) and others to be announced. (Photo: www.mediabistro.com/fishbowlny /original/15_sasha_lgl.jpg ) We came across an interesting interview with New Yorker music critic, Sasha Frere -Jones. Hosting a New Yorker dance party on Friday, NY's Gothamist posted up with Frere -Jones to get his thoughts on the event, his current musical tastes and music making with Ui . Most interesting, to Stark at least, were Frere -Jones' "Best of 2008" picks [...]
Earlier this year you thought your van and equipment were stolen in Brooklyn--can you tell us how that went down? It was towed away but there were no records of it being towed anywhere so we/they presumed it stolen. We got a letter 3 weeks later saying it was in fact towed and up for auction in 3 days. How long have you guys been together? JB and Brad have been playing for about 5 years. Kyle joined the round robin lineup about 2 years ago, myself (Andy) and Frankie both entered [...]
First things first: What happened to the beard? I cut it. It'll come back. I do have a beard on my face now. It's just not long. Was it because of the heat? You've got to keep changing things up. Also, I have an easier time eating in public. And more than one type of person finds me attractive. So, as I understand it, Return to Cookie Mountain—which was released in the U.S. about two years ago in September 2006—was actually finished long before it was [...]
"For fans of the band and their hypnotizing, yet charged live performances, Deerhunter's recent shows have been a real treat. Gone are the gimmicks and outbursts that nearly defined these guys as a one-off freak show, and replaced is an often charming group of kids who know how to make abstract music truly engaging. Those in attendance last Tuesday night at (Le) Poisson Rouge got to see this band at their best. Frontman Bradford Cox is by no means shy at the mic, but he kept the banter light and amusing, and the attention on the music between quips. Despite [...]
(from sj-r.com ) Here's today's WTF article: A story in the Springfield, Illinois, State Journal-Register claims that a group of fans ran into Beatle Paul McCartney at a Circle K last Saturday. From the article : On Saturday afternoon, a group of Springfield guys stopped at the Circle K on their way to St. Louis for the Cardinals-Phillies game. While in the parking lot, they saw someone walk by who looked just like McCartney. "We were getting in the car as he was walking in," [...]
Band of Puppy Kickers: Are They Any Good?
Some New Yorkers may have already heard about the Brooklyn band that may or may not have kicked a puppy in Prospect Park yesterday. What began as a Brooklynian message board post by an angry Park Slope resident claiming that someone in an unknown band (that was in the midst of a photo shoot) assaulted his golden retriever. The poster took his own photo of the group to accompany his post. Soon after, both Gothamist and the Village Voice picked up the story and implored readers to help them identify the band. A helpful [...]

Dirty Projectors: A Must See??
Gothamist called the Dirty Projectors, "simply a must-see." I've seen them before (twice, in fact). The only reason I can think of why anyone "must-see" the Dirty Projectors is if they are forming a band and trying to figure out how to sing really, really bad and be really annoying. Hey, there are some people that dig that kind of thing, but "must-see?" I must disagree.

BLOGGITY BLOG: Jake Dobkin's Gothamist.
BAIT TAKEN. "It seems like young, affluent hipsters are always finding something new to do with their voluminous free time." - Jake Dobkin , Publisher of Gothamist LLC. And well, whatever... it's been said before by many people more eloquent than me. But this one just takes the cake. Your premier shining moment on Flickr will arrive when some kid you are photographing to fill the void of authenticity in your life, comes over to you and smacks that silver spoon out your mouth, and shoves [...]
