The Creptter Children

The Creptter Children The Creptter Children is the noir synth rock out-fit centred around Iballa Chantelle (vocals / guitars) and  N80R Creptter  (guitar / backing vocals / synths programmer) from Melbourne in Australia. The Creptter Children Out come the deep purple velvet elbow length gloves to wrap up the audience as the intoxicating vocal experience that is Iballa  as it weaves into the room to the clouds of dark fog that is the musical accompanier which sets a suitably dark dungeon [...]

Cross - Die Forever LP

Cross - Die Forever LP Formed by ex- Warmer Milks member Ma Turner and the visual artist R Clint Colburn, Cross was pieced together to simply make some weird rock 'n roll. Wha? A former Warmer Milks member wanted to make “weird” rock? No way. Cross isn't actually as off into the deep end of weird that one would initially be led to believe I think. In fact, I was surprised as to how relatively accessible the debut from the band is. And I think that's all the more impressive when taking into account that [...]

LIVE REVIEW: School of Seven Bells @ Fox Theater, SF 9/12/12

When it comes to performances School of Seven Bells is the dark yin to headlining act Silversun Pickups’ sunnier yang.

Neon Blud - Discotheque Deathbed

Neon Blud - Discotheque Deathbed The collective that just keeps on giving, that being the folks down south that have helped spawn projects like Cult Ritual , Merchandise , and so on. This LP comes from yet another outlet under the name Neon Blud . Those out there probably know them from their split with Diet Cokeheads or releases on Fan Death and Drugged Conscience that came out awhile back. Previously I had known them as more of a noisier pop group that had a very prominent early Sonic Youth thing going on, however [...]

Dana Jade

Dana Jade Dana Jade from London England is the alternative goth rock out-put of  Dana Jade (Vocal / Guitar) with live support from  Ian McKenzie (Drums) and  John McKenzie (Bass). Dana Jade Appositely publishing runs work well on this occasion as later today lays the oil drenched orgy of The Barbarellatones . Sexuality oozes out of the material, not in the sleazy car-keys in the pot of a swapping party, but of the sensuality of a wax dripping candle fest in [...]

LIVE REVIEW: Amanda Palmer @ Public Works, SF 7/13/12

If bawdy theatrics, quirky costumes, and the chance to stand in the same room as Neil Gaiman is your thing, then don’t miss Amanda Palmer on her US tour continuing through September.

Mere Women Old Life

A couple of months ago we showed you the first and new single of this very new band from Australia. Now we got their first album Old Life.

Video: Grave Babies - "Fuck Off"

Video: Grave Babies - "Fuck Off" Those lovable goth rockers Grave Babies have released a new video for their single, "Fuck Off", from their recently released EP, Gothdammit , and boy, is it a doozy. Director Jordan Utley went all out at truly capturing the very essence of the band and the video's song using tongue-in-cheek gothic imagery like ghosts, Ouija boards, religious iconography and nightmarish figures. I love the way this video is filmed. I think Jordan Utley has a bright future ahead of him. Watch the video for "Fuck Off" below. Read more »

The Eternal Fall - Emptiness Vol 1 + 2

The Eternal Fall - Emptiness Vol 1 + 2 The Eternal Fall is a very strange band. I loved half the album and didn't like the other half at all. The great songs are light, punky trad goth, while the others petered off into mindless whining. I barely got through the first tracks on the album, "Beneath the Stars" and "You Are Always in My Mind." But "Always It's the Same" is a fantastic song. It's almost as if the Cruxshadows went trad goth and met the Cure halfway. It's actually one of my favorite songs right now, that's how awesome it is. "Broken Dreams," "Empty [...]

Nightchild - Dreammaster (single review)

Nightchild - Dreammaster (single review) When listening to Nightchild's new single, "Dreammaster" I liked the music right away, but the vocals didn't grab me right away. I'm very glad I kept listening, because by the chorus, I was dancing along! The chorus is broad, and blasting, and I loved every note of it and the rest of the song! And when I started the song all over, I loved the begining too! "Dreammaster" is ghostly goth, but still has a technoey base that keeps it moving, not letting it lay back. I loved the track because it combines haunting organ playing with industrial [...]

Selebrities-Novo Single: "Night Heat"

Selebrities - Night Heat
. Video Credits: Selebrities on vimeo.com ..:: Automatic English (bad)

Bestial Mouths - Hissing Veil LP

Bestial Mouths - Hissing Veil LP It’s odd to be able to describe a record like this as being “lively”, but as bleak and gloomy as Bestial Mouths appear to be here on their debut LP Hissing Veil , they play with a type of energy that throws most of what people have come to expect about goth/death-rock for a gigantic loop. A large chunk of this is due to drummer Ebrahim Saleh’s frenetic style often clashing alongside a lurching type of synth based melody, which in itself nearly gives this genre bending attributes. [...]

The Black Heart Procession Gig Review

The Black Heart Procession Gig Review For some individuals, going to a concert over the weekend is a highlight worth sharing with their co-workers come Monday morning, even if it meant standing behind a farter whilst listening to music lacking passion. For me, paying a small fortune to see a band I’ve followed since their inception brings me joy, BUT only if the band fulfills the expectations I’ve built up for them. This past weekend, a friend and I headed over to the “new” venue, The Satellite , to be tortured for three and a half hours—we paid fifteen dollars each. [...]

Album Review: The Black Belles’ Self-Titled Debut

Album Review: The Black Belles’ Self-Titled Debut On first listen, The Black Belles' debut is quite comfortable; it feels like an old standby.  That might be because I'm a big fan of The White Stripes and The Dead Weather, two bands that have Jack White's weird influence. After having been signed and produced by White,  this band has his presence going for them as well.   Everything Jack White touches is tinted with his unique style, although I'm definitely not complaining.  In addition to influences from White, The Black Belles have a very garage-band feel to their music.  Their songs are simple but full of energy, and they [...]

Evanescence – Evanescence

Evanescence – Evanescence As a band, Evanescence doesn't so much enter your world as it pulls you into theirs. Their soaring, high-drama theatrical goth angst is unflinchingly back on their self-titled third album (Wind-Up), the first released since 2006. Frontwoman Amy Lee's beautiful powerful soprano smashes and uplifts all at once. You can hear in her voice and lyrics a constant inner soul battle against fear and suffering even as she seems to embrace it. "Do What You Want" smacks open the pinata of itself with an insistent chorus that snagged my memory on the first listen. Lee has said in recent [...]
