"Swoon" starts with a maelstrom of digital dissonance. What at first sounds like a careless upload of a terrible quality mp3 you realize is made up of finely crafted overdrive, chorus and tons of reverb. It takes awhile for the vocals to come in but that makes their entrance all the more pleasing. Whirr, formerly known as Whirl, have been touring extensively since last year's full length, Pipe Dreams. This cut, considerably darker than anything they've previously done, is from their upcoming EP, Around , out on Graveface July 9th.
West Coast shoegaze outfit Whirr have dropped a new track, which will be featured on the band's next EP on Graveface in September. The group released their second full-length early last year, which I missed, sadly. However, it's looking like this new EP, Around , is going to bring a slight change of pace. On this new cut, "Swoon," Whirr is still sounding pretty noisy and shoegaze-inspired, but their they are slowing tempos down for an effect that feels ambiguously blissful and depressing. Enjoy!

After you finish watching the Twilight Criterion this Saturday, head to Caledonia for something more of the Twilight Zone persuasion.

MP3: The Appleseed Cast - Great Lake Derelict On the 23rd, The Appleseed Cast will release their 8th album Illumination Ritual . It's a record full of the lush soundscapes that they've been building all of these years, but with a mix of maturity and new blood. Very accessible and very essential.
New track from Serengeti 's upcoming Saal record on Graveface Records . Out Feb 12. This track is a lot different from 'Geti's usual stuff, and I'm loving it. Produced by German multi-instrumentalist Sicker Man .

Friday's rain made my leather purse bleed leather dye onto my skin and clothes like a bad self-tanner job. Luckily, we stayed downtown, so I had a chance to pick up an umbrella and a new bag for Saturday morning. Unfortunately, Goth Target, pictured above, was not yet open for business. My friend Nevona is my favorite American Girl doll. Free People snapped her photo right after this, but I can't seem to find it online! [...]

Ever since I bought a copy of the Dreamend LP 'So I Ate Myself, Bite By Bite' I've been a massive fan of Graveface Records . That particular record was a colorful picture-disc which doubled as a phenakistoscope . It is still one of my favourite pieces of vinyl, and the follow-up 'And The Tears Washed Me, Wave After Cowardly Wave' was just as pretty. I didn't mention that as well as being cool to look at, most of the bands Graveface release sound amazing too. Admittedly I'm not a fan of everything they do, but everything I do [...]

Just four hours from Athens, GA, Savannah and Tybee is our go-to spot when we need to skip town for a few days. Between Pricelining, staying with friends, and packing a cooler, we've been able to take two cheap beach trips and without feeling broke or guilty for over-spending. We can leave on a Saturday morning, get there in time for the beach, clean up, prowl Savannah, beach it up again in the morning, and get back to Athens easily. On Memorial Day, we got a bonus day! [...]

Sup' from Detroit! Hope all is well cowtown kids;) A lazy Sundia mix of stuff I am listening to in between drinking dank ales blowing clouds of legal dank and making bizznank. Holla at a scholla if you are in the 313!! 1.) Ghosts Of Barry Mill - Brother Sun, Sister Moon 2.) Alligator Indian - The New E 3.) Raleigh Moncrief - Runaway 4.) Blouse - Time Travel 5.) Slaughterhouse - The Illest [...]

It's almost Halloween. That means that The Marshmallow Ghosts are here to provide some haunting music and videos. The Ghosts just released their first full-length album, self-titled The Marshmallow Ghosts , and an accompanying album-length music video called Corpse Reviver No. 2 . The Marshmallow Ghosts have been a side project for members of numerous bands from Graveface Records over the past few years. This reincarnation features members from Lady Lazarus, Dreamend, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Casket Girls and, Lawrence's own, Hospital Ships . The album features songs titled "Shrieks," "Creaks," [...]
BY RYAN PAUL PLEWACKISpecial to Gimme NoiseI've been fortunate to have worked on a few projects with Darren Jackson over the course of the last year. There had been small hints and mentions of a new

Black Moth Super Rainbow hold a secure place in my heart as a band I'd love to see live but have, on several occasions, missed. With a new album coming out next year, Psychic Love Damage , there are definitely things to look forward to for BMSR fans. I noticed just now that the teaser they posted for the new album had yet to be posted on Earmilk (I saw it and thought about posting it a while back, and then probably got distracted by porn or work or work porn or something), so it only seemed appropriate to [...]
Yesterday we got word of this new project called The Nighty Nite formed by John Congleton and Jason Garner of the Paper Chase along with members of Shearwater, Wires Under Tension, and The Hospital Ships. Coming from a short recording session, the new group produced four songs for an EP entitled Dimples due out June 21st via Graveface Records . You'll obviously hear the heavy influence of The Paper Chase in these tunes with that familiar indie horror music style that we've grown to love. Glad to hear these guys are continuing to create enjoyable tunes. [...]
He might not be a household name, but Jordan Geiger's got the musical chops to strike out on his own. Geiger's been a member of some lovely indie bands, namely The Appleseed Cast, Shearwater and Minus Story. And now his solo project, Hospital Ships, seems poised to grab those same fans by the heart and [...]

Hospital Ships bring to mind bands like Islands or Death Cab for Cutie due to the vocalists occasionally shimmers of Ben Gibbard esque vocal qualities. The band is the bedroom project of Jordan Geiger, former member of Shearwater and a personal favorite of mine The Appleseed Cast. Full length, Lonely Twin is coming soon via Graveface and a 73 for is available now . Check out two tracks below and the video for "Reprise" after the jump. Mp3: Hospital Ships - Honey Please [...]

We told you a couple of months ago about Blue Water White Death , the collaboration between Jamie Stewart and Jonathan Meiburg, frontmen of Xiu Xiu and Shearwater respectively. Since then updates have been in short supply, their website still reads "coming soon." However Stereogum have just premiered a track from the album called "Song For The Great Jihad" which you can check out below. MP3: Blue Water White Death - "Song For The Great Jihad" The description of the album posted in that Stereogum piece reads as [...]

Graveface of Black Moth Super Rainbow is coming out with a new album under the moniker Dreamend called So I Ate Myself, Bite by Bite out August 10th. This is a follow up to his 2008 release Long Forgotten Friends which is hauntingly chilling and beatiful. For those who are hardcore BMSR fans, don't go into this expecting those old antics. Dreamend is folky chants that are easy to get lost in. Where Tobacco went to a darker corner, Dreamend has taken a lighter [...]

These textures are enigmatic, and their intent rests in peace. We gave Periphery some lovin' in November before taking it in full exposure, but now having been eagerly dosed with a full amount of the Seven Fields of Aphelion we're rolling down the largest hill in flavor country. Having taken to the timeless, it's no surprise that Black Moth Super Rainbow's Seven Fields has transformed the most minimal of keyboard and synth based compositions to an epic magnitude. There are contours to carry your sorrows, valley to push you through thought, and deep caverns [...]

The Seven Fields Of Aphelion is set to release her debut solo album, “Periphery”, later this month via Graveface. If you like nice soothing instrumental chillout tracks this one is for you. Grab two of the tracks from “Periphery” below. MP3 #1: The Seven Fields Of Aphelion - “Grown” MP3 #2: The Seven Fields Of Aphelio - “Mountain Mary”
Black Moth Super Rainbow member The Seven Fields of Aphelion is set to release her solo debut, Periphery, later this month on Graveface. The record is a collection of soothing "fragile ambient soundscapes" created using piano and vintage synths, which lend these floating sleep jams a warm, nostalgic glow.
