Such is the case of Gem by U.S. Girls , the product of the Phil Spector produced psychedelic lo fi world of Meghan Remy's mind. It's a powerful journey through weird sounds, reverb laden guitars and girl group melodies that is firmly in my top ten of the year, despite the fact it seems to have slipped mostly unnoticed through the collective musical mind. This night, however, Meghan, alongside husband Slim Twig , local 'supergroup' Royal Limp and her label [...]

by The 405

Man Like Me are a rare breed; they're a band that have gotten to where they are now almost entirely off the back of previous performances. There are very few bands out there at the moment that are where they are now because of a stunning live set but it's that snowball effect that planted Man Like Me on a nationwide tour. There's the premise of a newly released sophomore (their debut all but forgotten) and a rereleased track, 'London Town VIP', with added production from Mr Mike Skinner esq. but every person in the room tonight in Brighton [...]

Despite starting slowly due to the fact there were still people on the beach when it started at 11pm it soon packed out in time for Female Band . The duo improvised mostly on stage, with one on pedals and one on guitar. It worked in places and fell short in others - it's hard to judge on [...]

Green Door Store is one of the better venues in Brighton as well, and, with the show likely to sell out, the atmosphere promised to be incendiary. Supporting them tonight was Canadian rapper Cadence Weapon with his producer Kuhree-oo , who also plays with Born Gold. Perhaps not playing to the most receptive of crowds, Cadence Weapon's stage presence and charisma threw [...]

As we build up to what will be our third consecutive year in a row we're now well known for this annual shindig. As 300 bands and the entire UK music industry descend on Brighton's seaside for a weekend of new music, we do our best to provide a genuine highlight among the many highlights.
by The 405

There's a certain vastness to Clock Opera 's anthemic big-pop, with its spacious build-up blips and whirling sentimental blops that seems daunting to translate live. Often the meticulous production of such a heavily layered aesthetic can swallow you whole in the comfort of the home, but lick limply at your face when played out live, with subdued beats, muted deliverance and restrained punch. Equally, Clock Opera's recent album, Ways to Forget , was of course subject to the same dooming swarm of hype that engulfs many fledgling artists, a pressure cultivated over recent years that [...]

If any of us spent a few months or years having drumming lessons then we may end up happy to take to the sticks in a band. However, not everyone can sing. Sure, you can have lessons, we can have lessons, but without any actual original talent to start with it's pretty hard to get anywhere, especially professionally. You either have it or you don't. Cosmo was playing at Green Door Store, a new venue that has sprung up near Brighton station, far enough from residential areas that it won't fall foul of the pesky neighbours that have closed several great venues over the year, but also t close enough to the centre of Brighton that you don't require a map and 3 buses to find the damn place. It also helps of course that the guys running it have a real taste for picking out new and [...]

It's been going for some time now, establishing itself in our seaside city as a staple night out for those who demand to rinse as much fun out of their weekends as possible. Her regular showcase of cutting edge music has found it's natural home at the small-but-perfectly-formed Green Door Store venue, which is housed under Brighton's train station in an old Victorian coach house.
