There's a new band on the block. Producing some sweet post-folky-rock numbers with a hell a lot of substance, style and elegance right from the other side of the pond. Influenced by the likes of Austra, Nick Drake and Cat Power, New York-based Wilsen blend contemporary folk songs with ethereal, electric arrangements to create a full intricate sound tagged "dream folk". Wilsen self-released their debut mini-album 'Sirens' in the summer of 2012. Their debut single 'Anahita' was released in February 2013. New single 'Dusk' is released on the 10th June 2013. It comes backed by a cover of [...]

Escúchenla a continuación.

Fresh from supporting Daughter on their recent U.S tour, the marvelous Wilsen unleash Dusk , their new single, on June 10th. While the hushed beauty of Dusk is another mesmerising release from the band, it was the B-Side that held the most interest, and Oblivion - a cover of Grimes' breakthrough 2012 single - is every bit as good as we'd hoped it would be. The instrumentation is as subtle as ever; the brief deviations and nuances keeping you firmly hooked in. Once again, however, it's [...]
Grimes - Oblivion Grimes is juxtaposition and contradiction. A classically trained ballerina, a signed electronic musician who’d rather make music at home. The music she constructs is surreal but rooted in very real influences and metaphors. Her lyrics and undertone are often aggressive, ironically placated and exaggerated by her small stature and doe eyes. Oblivion , off of her first album on a label, came out last year. I love the spookiness of the base track against [...]
Here's a Grimes -approved cover of "Oblivion," one of the best songs of 2012 , by Japanese artist Miila. Grimes tweeted the link to her Tumblr, where she said, "This is sweet" and included a short description: "This girl’s regular band is like a punk band called Miila and the Geeks (I think). And she drinks water with a straw YES haha." Watch the "Oblivion" cover above, and check out Miila and the Geeks here . [...]

Vicki 's Top Lists of 2012 I went into 2012 with a very ambitious goal of trying to cover more musical ground than in the year before. I set up a playlist and began adding songs from all of the new releases, in an effort to keep track of them all. By March my playlist was already over 100 songs, and undoubtedly did not encapsulate everything new. This approach allowed me to sample a lot of different songs from a variety of artists, but I never really felt that I'd absorbed anything. More importantly, [...]

Vancouver-born and Montreal-based Grimes—or Claire Boucher—played Toronto’s Lee’s Palace on September 21 st along with two opening acts. Myths (comprised of Lief Hall and Quinne Rodgers) kicked things off just after ten, stage decorated with fake flowers and instruments draped in gauzy white cloth. Wearing skeleton and flower themed outfits, the duo’s electro-pop performance seemed somewhat out of sync and at times offered a ruthless sensory explosion—such as when one of the girls picked up and danced with the strobe light, blinding the audience every three seconds. Next up was Elite Gymnastics, or James Brooks—the other [...]

I think as a general rule for concerts. if they’re selling pussy rings inside, then you know you’re in for a good time. At the Union Transfer Thursday night, all the local hipsters, weirdos, and goth kids piled in to check out witch house act Grimes. Having minimal experience with Grimes beforehand, I went in not entirely knowing what to expect. As soon as Grimes first stroked her synth though, she cast her spell of gothic electronica and entranced me into her creepy cocoon. Opening up the set was Grimes’ [...]

If you don't know who Claire Boucher is I only have one question for you: where have you been? I have to confess that I wasn't all hyped on Grimes when she first popped up on the internet. It's not that I deplored her music, I just was never in a mood to listen to her. She seemed like an acquired taste. But like all acquired tastes, Grimes became a semi girl crush once my tastebuds adapted to her sound. Her aesthetic kept me interested and watching while over the past few months her [...]

Maya Laner is the multi-instrumentalist for the excellent teenage band Local Hero from Berkeley, California. As it turns out, Laner likes to get ambitious when she's playing solo, to the tune of covers of bands like The Ronettes and Velvet Underground. Apparently, for her latest cover, that of electro-popper Grimes' wonderful track "Oblivion," Laner's percussion [...]
We're sort of Grimesophiles (it's a word, shut up) here at DHM. Usually Travis is the one obsessing over her as you can see here or here , but that doesn't mean the rest of us don't have a soft spot for the creative little weirdo. The video for "Nightmusic" isn't quite amazing as her video for " Oblivion " but it's still got a distinctly different feel to it, plus you know, naked people. And as a bonus, if you look closely you can see Claire Boucher sporting her new Pussy Rings . [...]
![Grimes – Oblivion (Baardsen Remix) [Listen/Download]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4234376_lg.jpg)
From Emily Kai Block's site http://www.emilykaibock.com/ 2012 is definitely becoming a big year for Montreal's Grimes . She sure is making a name for herself in the UK with her appearance on Jools Holland . (Look at the third eye ) I happened to listen to Rob da Bank 's show on BBC Radio 1 . He played the Baardsen remix of Oblivion. I really like this remix, it [...]

I am clearly on the other side of a generation gap and the internet has a lot to do with it. I'm part of a generation who sort of get the 'internet' (in the sense of internet culture as opposed to a practical understanding of the ways in which the web is functionally useful) but who also remember what life was like before it. The ways in which my teenage self differed from today's tumblr-teen are profound, especially when you consider how they might see the world as a direct result of the internet. Almost unimaginably different, I'd say. Like [...]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?f eature=player_embedded&v=FJ5XU w4qHZo I honestly have no clue what my opinion is of Grimes. Everyone is in love with her and while I can't deny the absolute charm of her Oblivion video, I'm not totally sold. I took to the live clip to get a sense of her stage presence and it's, well, it's similar to her music to me...something seems lacking. I really want to be swept up in whatever it is people are seeing in her, but I'm still struggling. I puzzled for a while over her minimalist setup too: an SP-404 sampler, an iPod [...]
