It's pretty sweet when a band you really like starts recommending new music to you. That's what Craig from The Delta Mirror did with The Shimmies. Not only did he recommend them but he even sent me a couple of their songs too. The four-piece are from a land far far away in Dagobah System, California, their sound reminiscent of Grizzly Bear meets Conor Oberst meets a Jeff Buckley-fronted Band Of Horses. High-arching guitar build-ups, resonating vocals and drum skins hit like they're going out of fashion make their upcoming album "To All Beloved Enemies" sound like a [...]

There was a line for ID check. There was another line for beer tickets. There was another line for beer. There was a designated area where you had to drink the beer. Once we figured out the system, got the beers, found the one security guard who didn't care if we left the beer pen to go sit on the grass and drink the beers, everything suddenly became amazing. The venue's new sound system was crystal clear, the sun began to set over the Manhattan skyline and a breeze cooled things off. Grizzly Bear's chilled-out sounds created the [...]

Twilight gets it right again. On the soundtrack at least. When New Moon announced their soundtrack of Thom Yorke, Grizzly Bear, Sea Wolf etc we were pleasantly stunned. This was written off by some idiots (pitchfork) who didn't realize what a huge moment this was good music. The Jonas Brothers generation of teens was exposed to some really different music, and new artists. We should have praised Twilight more for taking this route. Now with this summer Eclipse the producers have assembled and equally impressive list of artists, and songs. Beck [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , New Music , Exclusive Aside from the high school troubles that inspired it , what's most surprising about Karen Elson 's debut 'The Ghost Who Walks' is the divergent styles that appear throughout. With the production led by her husband Jack White , the hard, blues-driven 'The Truth Is in the Dirt' could easily pass for a White Stripes outtake. But mostly, Elson riffs on country tunes that draw from old Nashville traditions. "When [...]

Being the wife of a musician must be a little lonely. Your spouse is gone on tour all the time. When they are around, they are recording or getting the stuff done that they neglect during their time away. Not to mention, you never know if the people you meet are interested in you or just getting closer to your talented spouse. Being the wife of Jack White must feel like living in Antarctica. I wouldn't feel too sorry for Karen Elson , though. Besides being completely loaded and perfect looking, she is going to [...]

![CD Review: Local Natives – Gorilla Manor [2010, Frenchkiss]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2313657_lg.jpg)
Toronto - This is going to be a fairly lazy review, I will probably pull a Jamie Foxx and name drop a bunch of things here, hoping somehow that in the process, a review will somehow percolate subconsciously in your head and you'll come away from the article thinking this was a good review. Local Natives are a 5 piece band from Los Angeles, California. I thought Local Natives in California were known as Mexicans. HAHA. Maybe that's a sensitive issue, I am not sure. Anyways, they have an album coming out on February 16th, [...]
A countdown of the top songs from the past decade.

On June 6, 2006, FensePost went live. Since its inception, I've written more than 1,000 album reviews and countless features, track reviews, live reviews, and video reviews. My collection has grown exponentially. I have a room in my house devoted entirely to records. CDs go in the living room and I'm out of shelving space. To say FensePost has become a big part of my life would be an understatement. It's as much a second job as it is a hobby. Above photo of [...]

After much thought, I decided that I wasn't satisfied with my original list, nor my execution of it. I have done a lot of reviewing and listening over the last few weeks for both the Decade-End and Year-End celebration that you will see here in the coming weeks. This has helped me through the revision and tightening of this list. I will reveal PMA's picks for Best Songs of the Decade in three parts; each part will contain 25 songs that will make up a new episode of the pmaCAST. Here are songs #75 to 51: [...]

(photo by dcdead ) I told myself I wasn't going to do a decades album list. I mean how can you really rank all your favorite albums over a period of ten years that isn't even completed yet? Over the last couple of months though, I found myself slowly beginning to compile a list of my albums from the 00's that I loved and I then I began chiseling the list down to around 50 albums. I guess my love for making lists got in the way of the logic and reasoning I had for [...]
What? You still listen to THAT album? That record is so 2004 ! Well, that's okay, because we really like that one too, which is why we decided to come up with a list of our favorite albums of the last decade (2000-2009). Sure, these might not be YOUR favorite records, or the most critically acclaimed, but we sat down and really thought out every record from the past ten years that we keep coming back to in our collections. You're likely to disagree with some of these, and we won't tell you we're absolutely right we just [...]

Bonnaroo is in full swing today starting at noon. With so much happening at different stages, there's going to some difficult choices. Today would be the toughest for us starting with the pick of mid-day shows by St. Vincent or Animal Collective. Then again afterwards, it's a toss-up between catching the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Grizzly Bear or Santogold show. Later tonight, we just have to miss the first part of Phish to see Phoenix. Saturday has the easy decision to see both shows by Ben Harper and MGMT instead of one show by Nine Inch [...]
