Thriving on the many layers of freedom that come with working on a solo project, Grizzly Bear ‘s Chris Taylor turned out his first solo set, Dreams Come True , under the name CANT . Taylor has recorded a lot of records. Along with being a band member and producer of Grizzy Bear and Department of Eagles , Taylor has worked on Arthur Russell ‘s last three albums as well as projects by the Morning Benders , Dirty Projectors and Twin Shadows . It was with George Lewis. Jr. from the latter that Taylor holed-up in [...]

"So, are you, like, the Queen of Vancouver?" Grizzly Bear 's Ed Droste asks me on Saturday night, after an unsurprisingly beautiful show at Vancouver's Commodore Ballroom. He's being drole, of course, but it's in reply to my assurances that I'll help rally the troops to Sunday's far-from-Sold-Out second show. "No, just the mayor," I respond - he laughs - and remind him that it's Canadian Thanksgiving tomorrow night, hence the dip in sales. "Oh they'll probably be in a food coma then!" he chortles. He's interested in the differences between Canuckgiving and USgiving, [...]

Enjoy.

Wednesday, September 26th, 2012 I sat at Toronto's Massey Hall in anticipation of what I knew would be an amazing show. With Massey Hall undoubtedly being my favourite venue for its wonderful acoustics, I expected the pairing to be magical. Although I had extremely high anticipations, those were nonetheless surpassed once Grizzly Bear came on stage and Ed Droste, Daniel Rossen, Chris Taylor and Christopher Bear began performing. After American-New Zealand band Unknown Mortal Orchestra opened , Grizzly Bear made their way on at 9:15 [...]
It's not to say that the Album Of The Week selection for this second week of September has always been a foregone conclusion. This slate on September 18th is actually full of great efforts by a broad set of worthy artists, all situated in the upper echelon of their respective niches - see the laptop-enabled R&B redux of How To Dress Well's Total Loss , the tenth set from evergreen fuzzbox titans Dinosaur Jr and their I Bet On Sky , and the Killers' bold and artful widescreen mainstream American rock record Battle Born . But [...]

Grizzly Bear - Shields By Hayley Scott Since their arrival in 2004, success has been sequentially brewing for Grizzly Bear . In a time when British music was submerged in the genericisms of Razorlight and Kasabian, the Brooklyn quartet were conceiving ideas for Horn of Plenty: the home-recorded brainchild of Ed Droste that was not initially meant for prying ears, and only intended to be heard by friends, and the experimental results of which introduced us to the dynamic and intriguing world of Grizzly Bear. [...]

Now Playing – every week, a roundtable of our writers will give their views on one of the recently-released new tracks. It’s as simple as that! If you want to tell us what you think of the song, feel free to leave a comment below. Track: ‘Sleeping Ute’ by Grizzly Bear Average grade: 7.7 Kenny: After a discordant start this achieves a more melodic balance once the vocals come in although the change from the [...]
Yesterday, Grizzly Bear kicked off their new album cycle with " Sleeping Ute ," a tempestuous Rossen-penned gem that the comment section wanted to marry. ("I do!" - You guys.) The band's still-untitled record comes 9/18 via Warp, and it is something we will probably talk about a fair bit around here, because it's been three solid years since Veckatimest was our #2 record of 2009 . That's awhile in blogyears. But if it feels like Grizzly Bear never left, it's because they never really did. Jointly they've been [...]

Following on from the sparse and sombre 'Saint Nothing' , here's another new song from the latest Grizzly Bear to rock a side-project . Both tracks will feature on his Warp Records EP, Silent Hour/Golden Mile , out March 20th in America and March 19th in the UK. No offense to Chris Taylor , but I think Daniel Rossen is better. Grizzly fight! 'Silent Song' -James [...]

I don't mean to be a prude when I do this, but we all had favourite albums last year, you can't deny that, and I had too many. In fact, so many that I loved that it was difficult to decide between them all, and I had been reading endless 'trendy choice' end-of-year lists before the year had even gone out. So I thought I might deliver some kind of personal justice by posting one that people can sneer at all they want, but might actually pick out something they overlooked and think "Hey, I might actually try that now, [...]

Grizzly Bear frontman Chris Taylor has released a music video under his solo moniker, CANT.
Grizzly Bear's Chris Taylor, the man masquerading as CANT , has made a video for "Too Late, Too Far," one of the pheromone-soaked polyrhythmic slinkers from his debut solo LP Dreams Come True . The Richard Peete-directed clip opens with some " ">Vomit "-esque automotive chic, and then some mystic woods, cinematic smoke, VHS weirdness and fabric monsters take over, making it like David Lynch directing a We Are The World video siphoned through an analog filter. It's not weird nightmare material at all! Watch: Read More...

THE VIDEOS THAT MADE MY WEEK (OF GIVING THANKS) AWESOME: #2 CANT - TOO LATE, TOO FAR “Too Late, Too Far” is my absolute favorite CANT track, and an official for the track just makes it that much better. Chris Taylor puts on an awe-inspiring live show that has become one of the top five live performances of 2011 for me. Guy is an outstanding performer in every way, shape and form. This video is yet another example of Chris’s ability to [...]
