About 200 of you guys participated in our annual readers poll, and the results were tight. You had the chance to vote for 5 albums, and I gave each album a point value, decreasing with each vote. So first place got 5 points, second place got 4, etc... The race was very close between Frank Ocean & Tame Impala, but in the end, Frank Ocean took home the Orange gold. All in all, the taste of you faithful bunch alligns quite well with mine, minus Mumford & Sons. In total, 252!! albums were voted for, which is insane. [...]

Clif's top ten list for 2012 with twenty others receiving honorable mention: 10. Cat Meat – Cat Meat We previewed Cat Meat’s self-titled debut as a Friday Free Feature on November 9, and it’s been in constant rotation between my iPod and car stereo. A complex, experimental alt. country/folk album that claims influences such as Wilco, Sparklehorse and Califone; the classic psychedelic experimenalist, Captain Beefheart; and the legendary bluesmen Mississippi John Hurt and Blind Willie McTell. When you listen, they’re all there in subtle drips, drabs and dollops. [...]
2012...what a year of music. We got new releases from favorites such as Animal Collective, Dirty Projectors, Grizzly Bear and heard new favorites in Father John Misty, Nude Beach, Tanlines, and more. Last year Earbuddy celebrated one year of existence with the best 50 albums of 2011 . However, we've grown since [...]
As I looked over my playlists from the year 2012, I have tried to only add the songs that either charge me up or songs that seem to find a way to my heart and soul. Here are my favorites for 2012. I couldn’t possibly rank them, so they are simply listed in the order that they were released. Editor's Note: The majority of the songs are in a playlist at the bottom of the post page. Cloud Nothings - "Stay Useless" This song reminds me of that awkward wonky [...]

We debated, we disagreed, we came up with our collective best 50 albums of 2012.
Another year, another great crop of songs. Some of you might be surprised to see a handful of radio smash hits on here, but I'd be lying to myself and you if I didn't include them in a list of my favorite songs of 2012. There's a Spotify playlist (with a few extra songs) to [...]

Wow - that month went by fast. Probably because I was too busy and tired to keep track of it. Crayzey. Unfortunately I wasn't able to keep up as well with music as usual due to my not being able to access the internet for most of the week. But I've been doing my best during the weekend, mostly just making sure to catch the big new albums, but still, I'm checking the blogs. Here are the highlights of September. 1. Lust For Youth - Behind Curtains 2. David Byrne and St. Vincent - Who [...]

It being Friday, and just shy of half-way through the ninth month of the year, this morning I ( @andykahn ) decided on a whim to tweet out my Top 9 Albums of 2012 (so far). Along with the nine I chose, I also added a handful of, “Honorable Mentions,” that didn’t quite make the cut. With a quarter of the year left, 2012 has thus far proven to be another impressive year of album releases. #9 album of 2012 (so far) @ mapsnatlases "Beware [...]
St. Vincent and David Byrne perform on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon Three years in the making, the long awaited collaboration between David Byrne and Annie Clark of St. Vincent finally sees the light of day this week. Love This Giant sees Byrne most energized, and there are lots and lots of horns, which are a highlight even as they come at the cost of Clark's exquisite guitar work, which gets drowned out in the brassness of the proceedings. [...]

The band played a sold-out show at the Showbox at the Market in July, and will return to Seattle to play the Paramount Theatre on October 6. You know summer is well and truly over when the humidity recedes, the days start getting shorter and the big album releases start coming thick and fast. Yep, it's almost time for the September rush, and this year the crop is particularly good — so much so, in fact, that we've expanded our usual round-up of 10 albums you need to hear in the month to come to a bumper list of 15. As ever, we've also rounded up the rest of the month's notable releases: the good, the bad, and the ugly. So tell us: what are you looking [...]

I often wonder why bands regularly take well over three years to release an album. I’m shocked that it takes musicians several years to make shit like this . But after one listen of Swing Lo Magellan , I immediately understood why it’s taken over three years to follow up the wonderful Bitte Orca , because this is the some of the most elaborate and complex and beautiful music I’ve ever heard. On the other hand, Swing Lo Magellan is [...]
