Open-air with Grizzly Bear ! Last Wednesday I went to a concert by the American Indie band Grizzly Bear and once again I was shivering the whole time, not knowing if it was because of the excitement or the cold temperatures… However, Grizzly Bear ’s show was amazing and so was the location. They played at the “Summer of Music” in Dachau, in the near of Munich. About a thousand people came to the concert, all wearing winter clothes because it was so cold and there was even “Glühwein” (mulled wine) being sold. But when [...]
Every aspect of this weekend's Hangout Music Festival in Gulf Shores, Alabama promises to deliver. Now in its fourth year, the fest boasts an impressive lineup featuring legends Tom Petty and Stevie Wonder headlining alongside Kings of Leon. With all-you-could-ask-for amenities, including pools at the main stage and hammocks lining rows of palm trees, coupled with forecasts calling for sunny skies and highs in the upper 70s, it's slated to be a perfect weekend. Though general admission 3-day passes are now sold out , a few single day tickets remain . Also, if you can't [...]

Win our top 31 albums of 2012 ! (Read the original review ) I have always celebrated Grizzly Bear for their novel subtleties. Everything that they have ever washed their hands on has peaked on groundbreaking levels and Shields has proven no different. While this record is undoubtedly a natural progression, Grizzly Bear has proven to be full of surprises. With this album, they have mastered a unique blend of mellowed chamber pop and even hints of psychedelia, while still remaining [...]

Everybody's favorite Brooklyn band, Grizzly Bear , stopped by Later... With Jools Holland last night to give a very solid performance of Shields highlight "Yet Again" . The four piece proved on the show that their live act is just as good, if not better than on record, with vocals that were absolutely spot-on. It wasn't just the vocals, though; Chris Taylor's bass, Daniel Rossen 's guitar and Chris Bear's drumming were top notch too, breathing a lot of [...]

"So, are you, like, the Queen of Vancouver?" Grizzly Bear 's Ed Droste asks me on Saturday night, after an unsurprisingly beautiful show at Vancouver's Commodore Ballroom. He's being drole, of course, but it's in reply to my assurances that I'll help rally the troops to Sunday's far-from-Sold-Out second show. "No, just the mayor," I respond - he laughs - and remind him that it's Canadian Thanksgiving tomorrow night, hence the dip in sales. "Oh they'll probably be in a food coma then!" he chortles. He's interested in the differences between Canuckgiving and USgiving, [...]

Wednesday, September 26th, 2012 I sat at Toronto's Massey Hall in anticipation of what I knew would be an amazing show. With Massey Hall undoubtedly being my favourite venue for its wonderful acoustics, I expected the pairing to be magical. Although I had extremely high anticipations, those were nonetheless surpassed once Grizzly Bear came on stage and Ed Droste, Daniel Rossen, Chris Taylor and Christopher Bear began performing. After American-New Zealand band Unknown Mortal Orchestra opened , Grizzly Bear made their way on at 9:15 [...]
[ another one from the always amazing Emily Kai Bock ]

I first heard Grizzly Bear in 2008, just before their last full-length release, Veckatimest , which demonstrated a rich, orchestral clockwork between the members of the band and a certain livelihood that was less present on Yellow House . Shields comes from a three year period of silence that yielded solo material from Daniel Rossen and Chris Taylor , under his [...]
It's not to say that the Album Of The Week selection for this second week of September has always been a foregone conclusion. This slate on September 18th is actually full of great efforts by a broad set of worthy artists, all situated in the upper echelon of their respective niches - see the laptop-enabled R&B redux of How To Dress Well's Total Loss , the tenth set from evergreen fuzzbox titans Dinosaur Jr and their I Bet On Sky , and the Killers' bold and artful widescreen mainstream American rock record Battle Born . But [...]

Grizzly Bear - Shields By Hayley Scott Since their arrival in 2004, success has been sequentially brewing for Grizzly Bear . In a time when British music was submerged in the genericisms of Razorlight and Kasabian, the Brooklyn quartet were conceiving ideas for Horn of Plenty: the home-recorded brainchild of Ed Droste that was not initially meant for prying ears, and only intended to be heard by friends, and the experimental results of which introduced us to the dynamic and intriguing world of Grizzly Bear. [...]
It's been three years since Grizzly Bear's Veckatimest dazzled fans. Now their wildly anticipated follow up Shields is due in stores on September 18th. The band has released two singles " Sleeping Ute " and " Yet Again ," ahead of the full-length giving listeners a hint at the haunting melodies, anxious rhythms, and dreamy hooks that make up the 10 tracks on the album. The band's frontman, Ed Droste, swung by Turntable.fm to chat about the writing process, Beyoncé, why he wouldn't be on American Idol , and why fans [...]

Oh GRIZZLY BEAR , you sure know how to treat us right. Since they announced the release of their new album Shields (out mid-September), the Brooklyn boys with a knack for achingly beautiful orchestral pop music have teased us with some huge spacey sounds on the impressive ‘Sleeping Ute’, and have just released a second single called ‘Yet Again’. The track starts out a little more conventional than ‘Sleeping Ute’, but it definitely seems like the stadium sized sounds aren’t going away in a hurry. [...]

We can now hear the fantastic 2nd song to be released off of the upcoming Grizzly Bear record Shields , “Yet Again”. Unlike the all over, but impeccable “Sleeping Ute”, this is a lot more of an easy listen. It’s more “focused” and allows us to buckle up and let Ed Droste’s melodies take us to the most lush of environments. Shields will be out September 18th via Warp.
Now Playing – every week, a roundtable of our writers will give their views on one of the recently-released new tracks. It’s as simple as that! If you want to tell us what you think of the song, feel free to leave a comment below. Track: ‘Sleeping Ute’ by Grizzly Bear Average grade: 7.7 Kenny: After a discordant start this achieves a more melodic balance once the vocals come in although the change from the [...]
Yesterday, Grizzly Bear kicked off their new album cycle with " Sleeping Ute ," a tempestuous Rossen-penned gem that the comment section wanted to marry. ("I do!" - You guys.) The band's still-untitled record comes 9/18 via Warp, and it is something we will probably talk about a fair bit around here, because it's been three solid years since Veckatimest was our #2 record of 2009 . That's awhile in blogyears. But if it feels like Grizzly Bear never left, it's because they never really did. Jointly they've been [...]

Link: https://twitter.com/#!/grizzly bear/status/147853210688831488 Recently, Ed Droste was spotted canoodling with Sarah Silverman [ link ]. Every1 was all like "OMG are they dating?" but if ur a true fan, you would know that Edward Droste is known as 'the most famous and powerful gay in indie.' Recently, he has rebranded his entire twitter experience @GrizzlyBear, offering the fans an in depth look into his vibes, whether they are light, or dark. In a recent tweet, he even shared a picture of his new husband! What a QT! [...]
Though Feist's worldwide tour of Metals won't wrap up until next March, Leslie, tourmates Mountain Man and the gang took some time out to document the first leg with a Polaroid camera and film supplied to us by the Impossible Project . Special thanks to Graeme Flegenheimer for facilitating the project. Check out Leslie's shots and captions above.
Though Feist played the CBC's 75th anniversary show about a month ago, only recently has the audio surfaced. So, on that note, here's Feist's duet rendition of Metals cut "Cicadas & Gulls" alongside Grizzly Bear's Ed Droste. Stream the performance below. Read More...
