Yesterday marked the release of Daniel Rossen 's first official solo work outside of Grizzly Bear and Department of Eagles , and, well, it's as extraordinary as any Grizzly Bear side-piece should be. Listen to the entire Silent Hour/Golden Mile EP below and grab the album via Warp Records .

Daniel Rossen has proven to be the most prolific member of Grizzly Bear, splitting his time between that band and Department of Eagles -- and now, solo pursuits. On March 20th, Warp Records will release Rossen's brand new, debut solo EP, Silent Hour/Golden Mile . Hear a song from the 5-track collection below entitled "Silent Song." It starts off sounding somewhat like a lost Fleetwood Mac song, but as the chord progression begins to change up unexpectedly, we're met with Rossen's signature tonal shifts; it plays like a rustic, chamber pop folk song, [...]
Filed under: News , New Music , Exclusive , Q + A Sacks & Co. When Chris Taylor is not on tour with Grizzly Bear (and sometimes even when he is), the bassist and producer is always working on some other project. His latest is CANT , a solo project of sorts that just released 'Dreams Come True' on Taylor's own Terrible Records. Taylor wrote and recorded the album [...]

Isn't Chris Taylor of Grizzly Bear a busy man, actually, it looks like George Lewis Jnr likes to keep pretty busy too. continue reading >>
Now that I've cleared about half of my pile of new music into Tuesday's Hip Hop Edition, brace yourself for a grab bag of everything else awesome (I mean it) from the past few weeks. Air France are back after a several-year layoff, and advance single "It Feels Good To Be Around You" beautifully blends gauzy [Read Full Post...]

Big thanks to YANP and Grizzly Bear Galore for the heads up on this one! Daniel Rossen of Grizzly Bear performed an intimate solo acoustic set at Family Band 's Upstate Forest Party in New York recently. Watch videos from his set, including a cover of Townes Van Zandt's "Kathleen" (Part 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 ). Just an FYI, you might want to throw some headphones on. (Photo Cred: Little Miss Mars [...]

While the rest of the world waits for a follow-up to ‘Veckatimest’ , Chris Taylor has plenty of other ideas up his sleeve. He’s gone solo for his latest musical adventure as CANT , and there’s an album on the way as well, called ‘Dreams Come True’ , a collaboration with Twin Shadow (yes, seriously) and due out on September 12th. The first taste of the collection of ten ambitious electro-pop songs comes in the form of ‘Answer’ , which can be [...]

There has been a buzz going around the net for a while now, with Grizzly Bear's Chris Taylor finally offering up some material from his solo project CANT. continue reading >>

All things ' Terrible Records ' do seem to have something special about it. Twin Shadow and more recently Blood Orange can only back up my words ten fold. continue reading >>

I saw Blue Valentine tonight, a movie starring Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams. I'm still not sure what to think about the film. From an acting perspective, it was excellent - overall some of the best acting I've seen in quite awhile. The story was joyful and tragic, evoking a rollercoaster of emotions. Rollercoaster, while overused, has to be the best word to describe the trip you take as an audience member. However, the sexual aspect of the movie was too graphic for me and unnecessary in my opinion. [...]
Cripes. It's been a stupidly busy week, and I've been quiet. Lots to catch up on, but first, the weekly irrelevance that is Monday Music: Warpaint - Elephants ( mp3 ) Sometimes I swear there's a holy man in a holy room with a big tombola full of names of upcoming bands, and every week he plucks one out, and says of the chosen act: your time is now. Listening in via iPad, his humble disciples like Paul (The Guardian) and Dan (Sunday Times) act accordingly, and said band goes overnight from might-be to sure-thing. It's happened now with [...]

Deerhunter - "Helicopter" Deerhunter's latest full-length effort, Halcyon Digest , is a softer album with less rockers than you'd expect. Does that mean you shouldn't check it out? No, but it does mean that Microcastle still crushes it in my book. Mavis Staples - "You Are Not Alone" Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy produced legendary Mavis Staples' [...]
