I have to give props to all parties involved in this track. If I were a Record Store Day exclusive, I'd wanna be like this track. I would consider myself an acquaintance of the original, but hardly a passionate lover of "Sleeping Ute". It's a good track, but it never quite struck me in the way I feel like it should have. Getting my ears on Nicolas Jaar's remix makes me appreciate it even more, however. Seriously though, after nearly eight minutes of Jaar loving you can't realistically expect to sound any better than this remix. That's personal [...]
As soon as this song was released, it was almost immediately exposed to a world of imminent remixes. With previous remixes from Blood Orange aka Dev Hynes and Dinosaur Jr ., indie's Grizzly Bear has released its take on the track. While Blood Orange's masterful embellishment of the track makes me swoon, Grizzly Bear's unexpected approach is like a wonderfully spastic friend who breaks out into dance at the shock and heartfelt joy of everyone around them. Surprising yet satisfying. STILL, I can't help but picture that Shiba Inu frolicking about when I hear this [...]

Nicolas Jaar 's collaborative 12" for Record Store Day sold insanely fast, and rightfully so. The release saw Jaar collaborating with Grizzly Bear and Brian Eno. But it's when you listen to Jaar's remix of Grizzly Bear 's "Sleeping Ute" that you fully understand. The remix is intricate, subtle in its execution and simply memserizing. As always, Jaar delivers.

Grizzly Bear have gone in an intensely reworked and rehashed Phoenix 's new Bankrupt! single "Entertainment," chopping the song up and creating a whole new mosaic of sounds. The result is pretty fantastic. Stream it below via Spotify or at Grizzly Bear Galore .

I slipped up and didn't make it out to my local spot on Record Store Day, my loss considering all the fantastic stuff that landed on shelves Saturday. One of those was an absolutely stacked 123 between Grizzly Bear, Nicolas Jaar , and Brian Eno . Luckily for those that didn't snag a copy we can now stream Nicolas Jaar's remix of Grizzly Bear's "Sleeping Ute". It's enjoyable for all the reason's we've come to expect from Jaar, and at this point we're left wondering if a follow up from 20112s Space Is Only Noise is in the [...]

Over the weekend, Nicolas Jaar released a collaborate 123 for Record Store Day that includes remixes of Grizzly Bear‘s “Sleeping Ute” and Brian Eno 's "Lux." While the album sold out, a stream of the Grizzly Bear remix made it's way online. Jaar extends "Sleeping Ute" into one of his elegantly hypnotic slow-building songs that is "guaranteed to move refined dancefloors everywhere." My top ten for the year, with a brief explanation/comment. Enjoy & Happy New Year! ...... 1. Grizzly Bear – Shields The guys in Grizzly Bear killing it, once again. This record is almost perfect. The compositions are strange & beautiful, and they complement the haunting singing styles of Ed Droste and Daniel Rossen. If you didn’t get this album – you missed (but there's still time!). Check Out: Yet Again [mp3] [...]

Clif's top ten list for 2012 with twenty others receiving honorable mention: 10. Cat Meat – Cat Meat We previewed Cat Meat’s self-titled debut as a Friday Free Feature on November 9, and it’s been in constant rotation between my iPod and car stereo. A complex, experimental alt. country/folk album that claims influences such as Wilco, Sparklehorse and Califone; the classic psychedelic experimenalist, Captain Beefheart; and the legendary bluesmen Mississippi John Hurt and Blind Willie McTell. When you listen, they’re all there in subtle drips, drabs and dollops. [...]

This six-piece from Charleston, South Carolina does a mighty fine job of channeling the Beach Boys (with a hint of the Ruby Suns mixed in). They have a great "vintage California sound" that always seems to brighten up my day. ♩ The Explorers Club - Run Run Run [from Grand Hotel ] web // facebook // twitter // soundcloud // shows // iTunes It's been three years since Edward Droste and company [...]

There is an unshaking confidence that rings throughout Grizzly Bear’s fourth studio release, Shields. While their last effort, 2009’s Veckatimest, earned them widespread acclaim and exposure, the Brooklyn quartet’s latest release showcases a more collective and personal approach to songwriting. The result? A well crafted album that engages its listeners while exploring new territories. Shields harbors a collective approach to songwriting, and in turn offers up ten tracks that fully explore a tonal spectrum, as well as fit nicely within a unified whole. Though songs range in dynamic and tonality, the band’s [...]
Daniel Rossen of Grizzly Bear and Department of Eagles is a prolific, talented songwriter, and we're starting to sense we've only heard the tip of the iceberg of his material - he keeps sharing unreleased, unattached material just for the hell of it. He's just posted to his soundcloud this demo, recorded in January 2011, that he says he streamlined parts of into songs on Grizzly Bear's Shields and his solo EP , from this year. #photo [...]

Grizzly Bear's Daniel Rossen dropped two 'old' tracks on his SoundCloud page recently. The first is an untitled piece that drew a ton of attention and has nearly 15,000 plays since October 20. Recorded in 2009, Rossen sounds like a modern day Nick Drake. "Untitled" - The second, "Not Coming Back", is one that Rossen admits "caring about." Who knows if he'll make it downloadable. It's soaked in reverb with haunting melodies and sounds more Grizzly Bear and less Department of Eagles. In other words, more indie [...]
Grizzly Bear's Daniel Rossen has released a demo from December 2009 that he says is "too old to work on anymore and won't see the light of day in any other format". If you want to enjoy this Rossen original, I suggest listening below.

Grizzly Bear has returned with a new album and a very solid single. 'Yet Again' is textured and atmospheric. It's a tightly wound studio production that carries very well over to radio. Stream 'Yet Again' in the SoundCloud player below:
