Chris "Bear" of Brooklyn's indie rock sensation Grizzly Bear released a remix of Phoenix's " Entertainment " in celebration of Record Store Day Saturday. The remix of the French Band's single also corresponded closely with the April 22 release of their newest album, Bankrupt . read more
In a year that has already seen a number of impressive releases, Grizzly Bear’s Shields is still one of the major anticipated albums yet to be released. But they’ve been keeping everyone updated with the album’s progress via Facebook and Twitter. And recently they revealed the track list and the first single, “Sleeping Ute.” Last week, not only did they announce that they will be playing Stephen Colbert’s “StePhest Colbchella ‘012: RocktAugustFest," but they gave us another single in “Yet Again.” Whereas “Sleeping Ute” featured Daniel Rossen's vocals, “Yet Again” features Ed Droste on lead vocals. [...]

Yeah, we're definitely into this more "focused" Grizzly Bear sound. The arrangements and melodies (spoiler alert: they're really really good) on "Yet Again" as well as Shields' first single "Sleeping Ute" are just a little sharper and more pointed. We're into it. p.s. Loving those reverb-drenched guitar washes. Yesss. Grizzly Bear ( Facebook ) Rating 8.4
Here at MFKWCRG, we usually try not to tell you something you already know, so let this post serve as reiteration: Grizzly Bear released a new song, and you need to listen to it. With the continued fracturing of any zeitgeist, "event" albums are becoming a rare thing, but there are a few bands (Arcade Fire, Beach House) that can get everyone salivating with just a drop of new music. And that's exactly what Grizzly Bear do with "Sleeping Ute"; the song is firmly planted in the band's wheelhouse, but with enough interesting flourishes to hint at an expansion of [...]
For a song called "Sleeping Ute," this one certainly got around fast. It was not an hour after the band first announced their new album and posted its lead track that the blogosphere had suddenly exploded. Literally, it seemed, given the abundance of such morbid praise as "It blew me away," and "It totally kills." Nonetheless, if "Sleeping Ute" is guilty of these crimes, I can't help but applaud the finesse and sophistication with which it carried them out. Like many Daniel Rossen-helmed Grizzly Bear tunes, it blooms steadily over a tightly coiled 6/8 drumbeat and a hypnotic, [...]

Watching the hopeful courtship and chase in the beginning of Blue Valentine is uplifting and humorous for about, oh...I'd say 30 minutes, but you know it's going to get ugly. It was easy to get attached to both characters. And by the end of the film I felt like the downward spiral of Williams and Gosling was something I had seen before in my circle of friends, or am currently on the sidelines watching. We all have experienced relationships [...]

Grizzly Bear (feat. Michael McDonald) - "While You Wait for the Others" ; Last we saw Michael McDonald he was tormenting the staff at SmartTech in The 40-Year-Old Virgin . Never did we think we'd find something he did musically cool, but for whatever reason Ed Droste and the rest of Grizzly Bear had him come down to sing the B-side of the same single. Turns out it worked really well and McDonald's voice definitely lends the song an air of something different without taking anything away from it. To be fair this would probably be a [...]
Hey yall. Thought I might post and review some bloggable electro tracks. [MP3] VEGA No Reasons Grade: 6.8943 out of 10 runoffs Analysis: This song is pretty chill. Apparently Vega has an 'EP' coming out. Wondering if it will 'actually be good electro.' I think pitchfork reviewed this track, so that means that it is 'more than just bloghouse' and might be 'better than lifelike' but not as good/branded as Daft Punk. [...]

MP3 Grizzly Bear - Two Weeks This song (and the rest of Grizzly Bear's fantastic Veckatimest ) leaked a couple months ago and the track was around a while before that in live form from the band's performance on Letterman, so while the song has just being officially released within the last week it already feels like a tried and true classic. It certainly will go down as one of the best songs of 2009. The song is absolutely lovely in every way, the vocal harmonies are a revelation and the piano that plays [...]

[MP3] Grizzly Bear Grizzly Bear Grade: 8.452 out of 10 runoffs Review: From what I understand, the new album by Grizzly Bear will be auto-placed into the Top 5 albums of 2k9. I guess that means I am supposed to rate it in comparison to the album by the Animal Collectives called Merriweather Post Pavilion . Looking back at MPP era, I feel kinda 'sad' and 'ashamed' of 'how excited' our society was about an album. I think I will [...]
