MP3: RQ Mix 003 - Police Academy 6 Police Academy 6 is one of the aliases of Murfreesboro, Tennessee based Joe Volmer (see also: Party Trash , Clearing , Virgin Spirit ..). Under this moniker he has released a self-titled album on AMDISCS , which established a trajectory lying somewhere in the interstices of tumblr, 80s video-game aesthetics, post-chillwave and nu-r&b, covering similar ground to other RQ faves and sometime collaborators of his, Top Girls and Raw Moans . His mix for [...]

Something to wind down to from Sheffield Heard of trackwerk.net ? Yes? Thought so. These guys have a reputation of delivering quality mixes and are well respected all over. I was very delighted when Scott, one half of the site, the other being Carl, accepted my request for a guest mix. And what he gave DR is a beautiful, laid-back and tranquil mix - of highest quality, which I'm sure you all agree. Timeless and soothing music, just the way we like it. Keep up the good [...]

Recent White Car stuff got us pretty excited about his first LP Everyday Grace , coming out in a couple of weeks on Hippos in Tanks . So we thought we'd try and get a little something to keep us amused while we wait for the record to drop. Imagine our delight upon receiving a mix entirely made up of - White Car material! Here's what Elon Katz said on the mix: "I hate when people put their own songs and remixes on a mix so for this mix I compiled it entirely from [...]

The next guestmix couldn't have been much better suited to my current broken status... After partying way too hard over the weekend and becoming a little too familiar to the porcelain throne... it comes as an absolute god send! We've been following Till Von Sein and his SUOL crew over the past few years and they have been keeping us extremely busy trying to write about their sonic movements. Till Von Sein's debut album #LTD dropped on SUOL at the end of October last year to lots of love all around [...]

The latest guest mix comes from Xander Harris , Buffy the Vampire Slayer's buddy the project of Austin, Texas based musician Justin Sweatt, whose peachy debut Urban Gothic came out on Not Not Fun last year. He has a split 7 inch with Dylan Ettinger coming out on Moon Glyph in late February/early March. This rather urban gothic mix is comprised of some tracks that he's "really enjoying at the moment". Featured artists include several Skinny Puppy-related projects, some of our latest sweethearts such as Water Borders and Trust, as well as [...]

As some of you may know, I recently relocated to from Dallas to Los Angeles. Before I embarked on the 1500 mile trek I asked a few friends to make a mix. One friend in particular was Matt Foglton, a former resident of the great city. He churned out the best mix I've ever received, which he posted on hits blog Bigger Splashes -a post-Empire musical hinterland of whatever-he-wants. To say this man has influenced my musical tastes would be an understatement-i.e. he introduced my to both John Maus and Ariel Pink as Bush started his 2nd term. [...]

MIX: RQ Mix 002: Top Girls Top Girls is the solo project of North Carolina's Evan Adams, who in the last year or so has been putting out some of the most quietly interesting jams this side of the post-internet underground. His music evokes a decayed and muffled r&b, inflected with the legacy of singer-songwriter traditions but nonetheless steeped in the ethos of the post-noise bedroom producer. His mix for us today juxtaposes the familiar and unfamiliar, maintaining the narcotic yet wistful vibe that characterises his own productions. The [...]

Stuttgart's Star Dust has been pushing out some very tasty mixes in recent months via his SoundCloud page and the German producer and lover of all things electric has created the seventh in the series of exclusive Mahogany mixes and this one features some gorgeous remixes, progressive originals and some tropical bass-filled beats. Star Dust // Mahogany Mix 007 6th Borough Project – Intro Jamie Woon - Shouda (Manik Remix) 6th Borough Project – Iznae Philip Bader, Nicone & Sascha Braemer – Dantze Girl Pezzner & Aki Bergen [...]

Good friend, Patrick aka Sleazy P , mixed in for this issue of the DECKast . He sent me this one a couple of months back, and I've been jamming out to it ever since. Dude's got a great ear for music, and doesn't hesitate to combine it with his sleazy vibes with some thumping boogie-down numbers. Pop this one in at a party and get the whole house shaking a leg. It's highly groovy and undoubtedly made for you to get down to. Download it over at his soundcloud or below. Here's what [...]
We are incredibly proud to introduce a new series to Metrojolt. Today we have for you our first ever guest mix. In the last year Metrojolt has grown enormously from a small blog based out of San Francisco to one with writers across the country in cities like New York, LA, San Diego, Madison and Boston. 2011 was an undeniably good year for Metrojolt. But the Metrojolt crew aren't the only San Franciscans who had an incredible 2011. About a year ago a duo known as K Theory was formed. Between then and now, K Theory has played with names [...]

RQ Mix 001 - Octo Octa We at Rose Quartz are very pleased to introduce our new guest mix series, where we ask musicians we admire and have been posting about to produce a mix of songs for us. For the first instalment we are honoured to have a mix of largely all new original material (!) from one of our favourite new artists of 2011, Octo Octa . Octo Octa is the alias of Brooklyn-based Michael Morrison, who came to blog-prominence last year when he released the excellent Let [...]
So I decided to create a rather unconventional music post today. Get ready to be INSPIRED. I've recently helped some friends of mine launch a clothing line called the ADAMO Collection. The whole idea behind this company is to provide a platform for rebelliously creative young people to pursue their passions, collaborate with each other, [...]

Beat Culture aka Sunik Kim, mixes in for this issue of the DECKast . He has his debut album coming out on Bad Panda Records , January 15th entitled, Tokyo Dreamer , and it is definitely something to look out for. Mr.Kim quickly sent me this mix without any hesitation. It's real clear this kid has got great taste in music. Turn this one on play, when in any type of mood or environment, and satisfaction will be brought to the ears. It's a real fun one, without a doubt. Thanks [...]

Kinda got used to having other people (ie. artists we like) write for the blog. So we're gonna start the year with yet another guest feature - a guest mix by o F F Love . (Apparently he will only make a mix for your site if it's guest mix number 45 .) Artwork used for cover was made by Aude Levere for "oFF is Loved" fan art project, featured in the video for 'Close to U, I'm Not'. o F F Love's debut album Probably Love is coming out in two [...]
