KCRW today announced the beginnings of its KCRW Summer Nights series , which spans multiple outdoor venues and kicks off June 8 at One Colorado with the sultry disco of Hot As Sun [pictured]. The calendar for free summertime concert series is rapidly filling, but there is one longtime favorite that will be conspicuously absent this year: the Also I Like to Rock shows at the Hammer Museum . Also I Like to Rock had a seven-year run of bringing live music to the Hammer courtyard every Thursday in July. Graffit6 Nothing beats the heat like listening to live bands outside for free! The opening night of Also I Like To Rock in the courtyard of the Hammer Museum brought out one of LA's finest Eastern Conference Champions who had the crowd in the palm of their hand. Graffiti6 and Eastern Conference Champions kicked off the seventh annual Also I Like to Rock series at the Hammer Museum on Thursday night in raucous fashion. Playing to a capacity crowd in the museum's courtyard, ECC unleashed 45 minutes of melodic, fuzz-drenched indie rock to start the night before the U.K.'s Graffiti6, with singer Jamie Scott leading the way, delivered an hour of swoon-worthy folk rock. There’s nothing very black-metal or goth about Dark Dark Dark , a chamber-folk band from Minneapolis. Using clarinet, strings, accordion and banjo the band ventures into spooky territory from time to time, but it’s the stuff of dreams more than death, and love more than monsters. Songwriters Nona Marie Invie (piano) and Marshall Lacount (banjo) create long and haunted hallways, dusty soundscapes with a chorus of ghosts chanting behind Invie’s yearning vocals. The sixth annual Also I Like to Rock series kicked off Thursday night at the Hammer Museum with lightning-charged set's by L.A. rockers Saint Motel and Kitten . A big crowd turned out early to catch the almost-feral performance by Kitten's 15-year-old singer Chloe Chaidez, and the courtyard was full of bouncing fans for the danceable rock — and eye-popping visuals — of frontman AJ Jackson and Saint Motel.
