Above is the official music video to OnCue's track "Headlights" and with that also comes the release of his newest mixtape, Can't Wait. I have been a big fan of his for a while and have been very excited for this new project to drop. After I saw him perform live for the first [...]
Here we go with the newest mixtape from OnCue, Can't Wait. This project is very impressive with excellent production from a majority of the tracks worked by CJ Luzi. Like most of his music, Cuey was very real on all of these tracks, and kills there songs solo instead of most of the mainstream music, which [...]
Here we go with the newest mixtape from OnCue , Can't Wait. This project is very impressive with excellent production from a majority of the tracks worked by CJ Luzi. Like most of his music, Cuey was very real on all of these tracks, and kills there songs solo instead of most of the mainstream music, which has a ton of features. His mellow tone goes so well with these sooth beats, and even though OnCue is still underground, this is a very well put together has a very professional sound. He also released another music [...]

Long have we adored Headlights over here at ATH, so when word leaked that singer Erin Fein was going out on her own as Psychic Twin , we got really excited. We posted a track not long ago, and now we've got another one to offer you. This one has a similarly darker quality to Fein's music, though her voice still maintains that coy playfulness that drew us in so long ago. It seems to me like she's got a knack for this sort of thing, so we look [...]

I'm very excited to share with you the debut track from electronic-pop duo Psychic Twin , led by Headlights singer Erin Fein. I've been anticipating the Champaign, IL-based band's debut ever since I saw their very promising performance at last year's Pygmalion Festival and the breezy, addictive "Deepest Part" does not disappoint. The track opens with an enchanting blend of hazy atmospherics and Erin's haunting vocals which are soon joined by glistening keys, buzzy electronics and hand-claps. It's a recipe for 4 and a half minutes of aural bliss and surely a sign of great [...]

(credit to venueszine for the picture) Living in central Illinois, there's not much going on in the cultural landscape that's worth mentioning, but Polyvinyl Records in Champaign / Urbana, IL has been a beacon of excellence since their inception as a fan-zine in 1995. This weekend, Polyvinyl is celebrating it's 15th anniversary with a huge concert on the closing day of Pygmalion Festival with a bunch of artists from their roster (including Braid, Japandroids, STRFKR, Asobi Seksu, Deerhoof, Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin and more). In honor of the [...]

I was meaning to do a farewell post when I initially heard of Dear and The Headlights break-up announcement. Thanks to the band for throwing up these 30 unreleased demos from their tenure spanning 2005-2010 and s/o to WWM for the heads up. All 30 demo's are available for completely free via soundcloud below. a pretty cool way to say goodbye if you ask me. 30 UNRELEASED DEMOS (2005-2010)

Night Moves are three-piece from Minneapolis that play big 70's/glam inspired rock and roll. Like as big as gets rock and roll without devolving into some sort of Emerson Lake (Greg we still love you!) and Palmer shiz or summat. No this expansive, glacial, rock and roll that still maintains a rudder of proficient pop songwriting. The melodies are really really good. Listening to "Headlights" is some trip. Night Moves - Headlights ( IGIF ) Night Moves ( Myspace ) ( [...]

Night Moves - Headlights I appreciate a good funky style and this band from Minneapolis is certainly delivering a different sound to my ears this afternoon. Night Moves , a harmonious three-piece from Minnesota, craft tracks that contain splices of electro/glam rock interspersed with soulful shreds of an Americana vibe. When was the last time you heard harmonica and synth go together so well? I'm not sure that I ever have. Really digging wailing track "Headlights" that sounds like Portugal The Man and MGMT pretending to [...]

Here's another "half mix." Some of my favorites include Dominos by Big Pink , Lovesick Teenagers by Bear in Heaven , Early Warnings by Foreign Born , Beachcomber by Real Estate (one of my favorite tracks from 2009), and Wide-eyed, Legless by Laura Veirs . Phoenix, AZ-based Dear and the Headlights have called it a day. Guitarist PJ Waxman issued a lengthy statement on the band's website , expressing a degree of disillusionment with certain aspects of the music industry. Here's an excerpt: "The music industry is a rough world to be in. It's hard work and very draining and it got to the point that we drifted away from why we were playing music to begin with; because we loved it. We got together as friends and created songs because it was the only thing we [...]

*MP3: Headlights - "Cherry Tulips" The classic summer jam "Cherry Tulips" by Headlights was released in 2008 on Some Racing, Some Stopping which came out on Polyvinyl Records. The Champaign, Illinois natives write great, timeless pop songs that never seem to go out of style. Buy all of their records here .
I brought up Dear and The Headlights last week when I wrote about the Westchester, NY band Two States. And in bringing them up, I went back to listen to their previous output and ran across this track from their demos that never showed up on either of the albums they released. Dear and The...
Bloody hell. Holidays are awesome things, but getting back from them to the terrifying number of neglected tasks which pile up in your absence is quite intimidating. So far the best I have managed has been to stare in a startled way at my desk and adopt a facial expression which looks dangerously like Ctrl-Alt-Delete is called for. I think I might wait for lunch and just go an lie in the sun in Inverleith Park instead, and accept the meltdown rather than fight it. Anyhow, that clip at the top is from the BBC's SXSW [...]

Your Headlights Are On [...]

- Some people in your own or immediate sphere, and you have to realise this, just cannot be understood or reasoned with on any level whatsoever. I think I was thirty one years old, or so, when I finally 'got it'. A late developer, you could say. Or, perhaps, another way of looking at the Rhinehart dice is this: you do not want to comprehend the sometimes contradictory words and actions that spill forth from those you think you know. The accented musings don't add up, let alone the setence on a screen. Deaf eyes and blind ears, [...]
We previously brought you the spectacular summer EP from the Philadelphia group Arches. On a more recent front, the group has released its follow-up, the full-length Wide Awake LP , which you can buy over at Bandcamp . Thankfully, Arches is also releasing two songs, "Headlights" and "This Isn't a Good Night for Walking," from the album free of charge for your listening pleasure. Both songs evoke some sort of sense of going for a nighttime drive only to discover that you can't even really see through your windshield at all because it's completely fogged over. Yeah, it's [...]

I have to rebuild a lot. I lose things, and I have to find them again. I forget a purpose, and I have to regroup. But for today, I will just talk about the rebuilding and the losses I sustain via my iTunes. Yes, I have said it nine and a half times in this blog. But I am going to say it again. I was listening to the new Thursday album, and I thought, doesn't this sound like Deftones? Let's pull up some Deftones and... what? Am I spelling [...]
That is, as they say, the question and I've been pondering it this afternoon as I've been cleaning out my cupboards and madly searching my kitchen for minute holes in the walls because my state has been beset by mice in plague proportions this last month or so, and the little buggers are STILL finding ways to get in. So as I threw out and rearranged and wiped and scrubbed and cursed, I wondered whether or not this post was going to be my last. I've hardly listened to any new music in the last couple of months, [...]
