In the world of entertainment. the world "trilogy" can mean various things. Sometimes it's that a franchise is so solid that it needs three installments to get its point across ( Back to the Future / Lord of the Rings /etc). Other times, it's franchises in desperate need of cashing in while the iron is still hot ( Robocop / Species ). Sometimes a franchise just needs a fresh approach, and that's exactly what Rockstar games and writer Dan Houser ( Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto 4 ) did when they released Max Payne 3 . [...]

In case you forgot, in an interesting industry move, Rockstar Games got HEALTH to compose the soundtrack to the moderately recent video game Max Payne 3. In this video, the band discusses the scoring process. Everyone's favorite Gawker-family gamer site, Kotaku , posted this video from The Creators Project with a light description a few days ago. One of the most interesting parts of the feature rests at the bottom of the page, where the band has released some of the musical stems used in [...]
HEALTH “Tears” This would have been the perfect video for Halloween, but I'm guessing with everyone's obsession with zombies the timing on this doesn't really matter. I think children zombies are much scarier than adult zombies and this music video highlights exactly why. Don't get me wrong, I'm not threatened more by children zombies, in fact I'm fairly confident I could easily defeat them with a swift kick to the face, but as for simply looking scarier, they definitely take the cake. "Tears" is directed by David Altobelli & Jeff [...]
∆∆∆ If HEALTH canceling the rest of their tour with Crystal Castles affected you in any way, maybe this video can act as a balm for your burned heart. A short film by David Altobelli and Jeff Desom serves as the post-apocalyptic backdrop to the eerie, draggy noise track 'Tears' from HEALTH's soundtrack to Max Payne III. I'll admit Jack and I played the shit out of some MP3 but never quite got to anything as creepy as zombie tots; watch the bbs inquisitively play with flesh and bone above. HEALTH LP 3 on the [...]

Disclaimer: I don’t play video games. So I didn’t realize that video game soundtracks were something worthy of review- until I heard HEALTH’S Max Payne 3, that is. Less like a game soundtrack and more like a dreamy, driving film score, Max Payne 3 is a sharp companion to the game that you will enjoy whether or not you’re even playing. Opening with the menacing, melodramatic “Sampa” and then ripping right into the pulsating “Shells,” Max Payne 3 hovers between fast and slow, building sophisticated moments [...]

Forget the defecating of golden eggs; LA peddlers of a woozy sludge HEALTH can seemingly secrete Tears of pearls on demand. This one, penned for Rockstar Games' Max Payne 3 , is an urgent, unintelligibly slurred throb of a thing that trickles rather than thunders from the same reddened and raw ducts from whence came the likes of Die Slow and Death+. Can now but hope for a track a day to keep the obsessive at bay... Rockstar Games' Soundcloud (never even so much as envisaged that phrase featuring here...).

Band created soundtracks to movies and video games are great. It forces the musicians to not only create for themselves, but to enhance and help tell an already existing story. This can lead to musical avenues that a band would otherwise never explore, and hopefully to the creation of great music that not only supplements the game-p lay experience, but gives us something wonderfully to listen to outside of the game. HEALTH , the noise band from Los Angles, recently did the soundtrack for the just released Max Payne 3 . In addition to the songs appearing in the game, HEALTH [...]
