SERIOUSLY, STOP E-MAILING ME YOUR ANSWERS!

This year was huge for festivals. Some were introduced, some had their last hurrah, and some continued to solidify their place as premiere American music fests. But Consequence of Sound took on the task of choosing what they thought was the best one this time around and bestowed the honor on Austin, TX's Fun Fun Fun Fest . (Whereas Sami made a personal pick and dubbed San Francisco's Outside Lands.) But how about you? What music festival had everything you wanted and more? Which one do you plan on returning to in 2013? Let us know. [...]
Brian Tracy correctly identified last night's trivia question - TRUE, there has been a Jewish musician in Metallica... well, sort of, anyway. Dave Mustaine's mother was Jewish, which, according to Jewish law, makes him Jewish. Ironic, given his extreme Christianity, but there ya have it! So Brian wins a CD and a dreidel from MetalSucks. [...]
A CD! A dreidel! Try your luck at winning both!!!

It was only during the Metroplex Heavyfest in Dallas last year that I got my first real taste of the legacy left by Dimebag Darrell. To be honest, I'd never been a fan of Pantera; not because I didn't like their music but because I'd never really heard them. Remember, graduate school kept me busy for most of the late '80's and early '90's, so I simply missed that boat. I'd heard a few songs here and there, but nothing that I really "listened" to. I was outraged and saddened by his shooting in 2004 like I [...]

Here is where some say thrash metal began. Certainly if thrash did not start at "Overkill," by Motörhead, then this song is important because of the drumming. Many thrash drummers (Dave Lombardo of Slayer and Paul Bostaph of Testament, to name a couple) cite this song as where they first heard the full-throttle power of the double bass drum, which would become one of the signature elements of thrash metal and many sub-genres of extreme metal. The fury of the rapid-fire double bass drums, usually played in sixteenth notes, adds further complexity to the intricacy and virtuosity that is at [...]

Converge The man who compiles a Best Metal of the Year list takes his pride into his hands. As a rule, metal fans are a diverse bunch, with the singular exception of their attitudes towards those who disagree with their critical assessments. In creating this list, I can be assured that someone will find fault with my rankings, and I can be assured that said person will shower me with vitriol, perhaps calling into question my parentage and sexuality in the process. I'm willing to brave the inevitable verbal onslaught, however, to honor my [...]
Fergadelic takes us into his graphic pop culture world.

This week we found ourselves digging through out record collection following a co-incidental request from one of Bristol's most overlooked bands: onedice . We even ended up interviewing the band's former frontman, David Malpass , about it. A couple of weeks ago, we saw a message on the official onedice Facebook page , asking if any of their fans had a copy of the 'Laugh, Cry, Lose' single that they wouldn't mind uploading to Soundcloud, as the band themselves no longer had one. Well, thanks to the nerd, [...]
I've always found the practice of naming such a strange and fascinating concept. I'm sure at some point in your life you've even ... The post Exploring 25 Heavy Metal Stage Name Origins appeared first on Metal Injection .

The final episode of Vice/Marshall Headphone's third series of On The Road has arrived, and they're going out on a classy note. Jesse Hughes is meeting up with Cynthia Plaster Caster to talk about rock star penises. The episode also features an interview with Bob Mitchell, who has the rare privilege of being the only man who's roadie'd for Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Led Zeppelin and Motörhead, as well as Jesse hanging out with former Future Hits alumni, Amulet . I don't [...]
[Photo courtesy of MaryAnne Ventrice ] At first, it's hard to grasp that the women of Heliotropes are your showcase's heaviest band by far. From looking at them, you might not guess that the diverse group of young women makes monster, Sabbath-inspired rock with chunky, wah wah riffs and a raging backbeat. Also one of the newest acts on our CMJ day show bill, these ladies are kindred spirits of modern stoner/psych rockers like The Midnight Ghost Train, Pontiak and others, and they don't hold back onstage. For a band whose current output consists of [...]

The penultimate episode of Vice/Marshall Headphone's third series of On The Road sees Jesse Hughes return to London - to our de-facto local, in fact. The Eagles of Death Metal frontman heads to The Crobar to interrogate Malcolm Dome, and then busts out into the sticks to interview Terry Jones of Pagan Altar. And then he goes to a graveyard and thinks he sees a ghost so runs away like a big girl. OH JESSE. Watch the fifth episode of series 3 of [...]

This week's episode of Vice/Marshall's third series of On The Road sees Jesse Hughes from the Eagles of Death Metal escape the Midlands to go chat to Steve "Krusher" Joule, the man responsible for that "interesting" cover art for their Born Again record you can see up above, as well as take a tour of Rockfield Studios in Wales, where Sabbath recorded on several occasions. Check it out after the jump. Watch the fourth episode of series 3 of 'On The Road' [...]

Heavyhanded? With a title like that? Nahh... Neil Diamond (1967) Deep Purple (1968) For Reselect's Cover Friday this week, we have Part 2 of my Neil Diamond covers series, this week featuring, as you may have guessed from the post title, Deep Purple. And what says "rock 'n' roll marriage made in heaven" more than Deep Purple and Neil Diamond. Well, maybe Barry Manilow and Black Sabbath, but we can only dream of such a thing. Not to compare Neil Diamond to [...]
