Monday and Tuesday I was chilling out in my dorm, perusing the internet for memes of cats and babies and whatnot, when all of a sudden God sent down a gift in the form of the twinkle of my phone. That’s right, it’s last minute concert time! On Monday it was Das Racist with the lovely Madeleine Wattenbarger, and on Tuesday it was my hometown buddy Emily Kager offering a seat for Dispatch. Let’s double review these sick sets! Das Racist played the Union Transfer, in tow with [...]

Weekend Money is a "joint venture" between Ne$$ (of A-Alikes ) and Iraqi-American MC Baghdaddy . They describe themselves as "2 dope boyz in a Cadillac". Some of you may remember the month of February, which was about eight months ago. On Valentine's Day, I released the trailer for my first short film, DOSA HUNT , and then forced Corban under duress and threat of termination of employment to post it here on Stereogum. Well, the movie is finally complete, and I'm very proud of it. It's premiering at Nitehawk Cinema in Williamsburg this weekend, and I want my online family there, so I am posting it here for your information. (You guys = fam.) Each ticket [...]

Fall has fallen, as they say. As a result this month's mix of ten tracks delivered right on time for September's grand finale has all the classic ingredients of a prosperous autumn: rap, punk, post-punk, R&B, and a Paul Westerberg song. They appear here generally in that order, diligently sequenced to include Weekend Money + Himanshu, Death Grips, FIDLAR, Metz, the Soft Moon, Crystal Castles, inc, How To Dress Well, Halls, and a piano ballad from a legend. Download it, press play, no skipping: Read More...
Let's get randy, er, random with Andy
The recently formed duo Weekend Money, made up of Dead Prez crony MC Ne$$ and Iraqi producer Baghdaddy, are out and about trying to make a name for themselves. Teaming up with Heems and his Greedhead label, the duo has released the Naked City mixtape-streamable now on Soundcloud . Their latest single also happens to feature a guest verse from Heems, who pulls together the raucous track rather swiftly. This particular song doesn't stray far from the rest of the mixtape when it comes to overall sound. So if you are feeling this, chances are [...]
Weekend Money - the tandem of Dead Prez affiliate MC Ne$$ and Brooklyn-via-Iraq producer Baghdaddy - is putting out a new mixtape called Naked City , a release from which we've already heard the zonked-out " Impala ." Here's another cut from that called "Yellow," a trank that in no way abandons that very zonk and features Heems getting loose. Hear it below. Read More...

It's Bollywood meets the trap with this brand new track from Heems of Das Racist . As one of the most bizarre emcees in the game right now, Heems brings that same gritty oddball flow to this swagged out cut from his Wild Water Kingdom mixtape, dropping October 15th. The song features a scattered sound, with an Indian sample which roughly translates to "Let me go," while Cee Gee brings some reggae flavor to the chorus, all with some heavy drums blaring in the background and Heems talking trash throughout as usual. It definitely makes for [...]

Closely following the release of "Hypersensitive Jester" from Kool A.D. and Bill Ding, Das Racist's Heems has dropped another intriguing slice of solo work. On "Let It Go," he enlists Jamaica's Cee-Gee and provides a second taste from his upcoming Wild Water Kingdom mixtape. The spacey, island-inflected banger is a bit of a departure from Das Racist's sometimes-understated vibe, though Heems' characteristic punchline-laden flow remains intact. Wild Water Kingdom is out October 15 on Greedhead .
Heems is one piece of the odd-but-talented rap outfit Das Racist, and I gotta say, this new peek at his forthcoming mixtape is pretty stellar. "Let It Go" features a goofy, clever-nonsense cameo from Cee Gee, some trippy, spaced-out production work from Keyboard Kid, and a cool smack snare drum sample. I've repeated it quite [...]
