This should be a pretty good show to check out in Toronto Feb. 9th. Bring your valentine's date to go see Allie Hughes at the Drake. A string quartet will be opening the show, followed by Henri Faberge & the Adorables , Allie's set and wrapped by a performance by Dwayne Gretzky ( Arkells & Sweet Thing ) as the wedding band, doing all the best covers. I've seen a variation of her wedding day show theme a while back and it was pretty entertaining, she reminded of me a female Freddie [...]
Two great shows to support one great cause. As part of the CFRC Annual Funding Drive (DONATE!) , our friends at Apple Crisp are sponsoring: 1) TONIGHT! - " This is Our Music " featuring Music Maul , PS I Love You , Owl Farm , False Face and The Gertrudes . It is going down at Time to Laugh, 394 Princess Street, on February 11. Doors open at 7:00pm, cover is $5 at the door. 19+ * The Gertrudes - Hard Water (Live at [...]
Frankly, I find it shocking the website has been up for over a week, and this is my first music post. I'd planned to write posts about last weekend's Rock n' Roll Anniversary , Singing Lamb Launch , and Out of This Spark shows, but the update, and the new Event Calendar (move your mouse over it, why dontcha, and see what happens!) ate up all my waking time. So the next two days are going to be all about the music, starting with Wombat Wednesdays . (That's Basement [...]

Toronto's own Born Ruffians played to a full house at The Opera House on Saturday night. Whoulda thunk it? The fact that it was an all ages show probably added to the volume quite a bit, especially when you consider that if you took out all of the attendees under 19 years of age, you'd probably be left with about five people. OK, I'm exaggerating but it sorta felt that way to me. Still, the youthful enthusiasm of the crowd is likely what enabled Lalonde, Derosier and Hamelin to crank out a show that was all kinds of [...]

(Henri Faberge, photo courtesy of History Jen ) Last night (or more likely a couple of nights ago by the time this goes up) Liz and I went to see Born Ruffians at the Opera House. We had fun. Somehow, we ended up on the balcony standing Luke Lalonde's mom and Liz chatted with her a bit, more on that later... The two openers were Hooded Fang and Henri Faberge and the Adorables . I'll admit, after about 3 songs into Hooded Fang's set I [...]

Henri Faberge & The Adorables wrestle their way into Zaphod's on Tuesday. (credit: Andrew Carver, NatCapRock ) This week in Ottawa, the dial613 Factory computer is broken. But what do you care? Well, it means you're going to have to find those Xavier Rudd and k-os mp3's all by yourself. So sorry. Next time, dial613 will be sure to use one that is capable of withstanding the pressure that comes with being a blogging computer. Like maybe one with Grillz or something. Make computers tougher, is [...]

I think it's both good and bad when a band's name can immediately tell you something about their music. Take any number of nu-metal acts, " Hatebreed " for example, it's pretty self-explanatory as to what kind of music you're gonna get. With some bands, the name is so ambiguous that you really have no idea, like " Oh No! Oh My! " there's almost no way to know what kind of music they make. With Henri Faberge (or HFAB, as their MySpace page refers to them) I had a vague idea that they might be some [...]
There is a lilt in my voice and a spring in my step today. *summertime* Out Of Your League - Henri Fabergé And The Adorables
