e're reviewing some of our favorite (and mostly undiscovered) releases of 2012: Here We Go Magic - Radiohead producer (and heralded "sixth member") Nigel Godrich is the guiding hand behind the eagerly-awaited third full length from the gifted rhythm-centric Brooklyn alt-pop band...headed up by frontman/songwriter and founder Luke Temple, HWGM manages to sound both densely layered and celestially spacious as ambient minimalism meets twisted, spiralling and spasmatic indie rock // Release : A Different Ship (May 8, Secretly Canadian) // Sounds like : the [...]

Enjoy. ♩ Alcoholic Faith Mission - Running With Insanity [from Ask Me This ] web // facebook // twitter // soundcloud // shows // iTunes [...]

Don't back up the hippie bus just yet. Secretly Canadian, 2012 7.1/ 10.0 To borrow and slightly modify the parlance of another well known musical community, what a short, strange trip it’s been for Luke Temple, and the rest of Here We Go Magic. In the relatively brief [...]
The clunks and clanks of the interior of a steel ship coming to life start "A Different Ship" with resounding howls. Is someone trapped? Is something happening that we aren’t supposed to see? Those questions, among others, crop up throughout Brooklyn quintet Here We Go Magic 's third album. They are searching for the right stride, unsure as they side-step from Paul Simon -like vocals on “Hard to Be Close” to the guitar driven single “Make Up Your Mind” . It’s as if frontman Luke Temple is [...]

Here We Go Magic - A Different Ship By Matt Churchill An incongruously industrial introduction to A Different Ship leads into an intimate folk track, singing about how it’s ‘Hard To Be Close’, with a gentle vocal positioning itself near enough to your ears to make it seem, in fact, quite easy. Building from an upbeat acoustic guitar accompaniment, the backdrop to this track gradually layers up to a plush landscape, continuing to grow in stature right to the end of the song. This broad sound then snaps [...]

As a band, you've got to know you've made it when Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich is clamoring to work with you, and that's exactly what happened to Brooklyn five-piece Here We Go Magic during the making of their fourth LP, A Different Ship. Unfortunately, I've never seen them play in person, but it's one of the band's apparently uber-impressive live performances that first caught Godrich's (and Thom Yorke's) attention. It's fitting, because Here We Go Magic have stepped up their game on A Different Ship in a big way; for those of us who have yet [...]

Rating: 2.5 out of 5 stars When Here We Go Magic first jumped onto the scene, it was clear that the work was mostly done by Luke Temple. But, through two albums it has become clear that the band's blossomed into more of a group effort. So with their third proper release, A Different Ship , would the title indicate a final change in the music itself? The answer to that question can go both ways, and therein lays the problem. "Hard [...]

div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> Here We Go Magic have released a new video for their single, "How Do I Know", from their upcoming album A Different Ship , out May 8 on Secretly Canadian. The new video was directed by Sean Pecknold, brother of Fleet Foxes' front-man Robin Pecknold, and has a very science fiction approach. Con ustedes el video de "How Do I Know", el segundo sencillo del nuevo disco de Here We Go Magic A Different Ship . Mucho baile.

HERE WE GO MAGIC ’s just released the second track from their forthcoming album, A Different Ship . It’s a joyful ditty, drawing very much upon frontman Luke Temple ’s folk background. It’s also got pretty synth and some lovely back-up vocals with a fast tempo, like a babbling brook. Just like a babbling brook. If babbling brooks made indie pop music, this is what it would sound like. Temple speaks about the album: “The music is beautiful, but feels like it’s [...]
