6 am Repeat is a recurring feature here at Folk Hive in which we stream the latest track that plays incessantly in the earbuds when we awake at that hour and imbibe massive amounts of coffee and cigarettes in preparation for the advancing day. Consider it your jam of the day — a sweet, sweet gift from me to you. I love you, dude. Sleep has not been important lately, bedtimes utter bullshit rules of [...]
Probably the funniest video I've seen in a minute. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis just dropped the video to their latest single "Thrift Store" off their upcoming album The Heist . I'm really anticipating this album. Shout out to all my thrift store diggers out there, this tracks for you. Peep the video after the jump. Macklemore : Twitter - Ryan Lewis : twitter
“A hesitation could kill me. I had to be fast. Or slow. Depending on the situation. What was the situation? I don’t even know where I am. I’m a fool. A phony. It’s sad really. I’ve come this far and... **Summary** Go to website for downloads, videos & more.

Three years ago when I was first moved to LA, I was working in a bookstore near Venice Beach after Kanye West had just released 808s and Heartbreak . His ex-girlfriend (who most of the songs were about) came in the store on a regular basis, with her hair dyed blonde and cut short, clearly not dealing well with results of their breakup. And rightfully so, as the album dealt her some serious lyrical blows. Personal anecdotes aside, I'm almost certain DJ Nobody doesn't have any similar intentions with the theme of his new album One For All [...]

Stone Sour brought their Avalanche Tour to The McElroy in Waterloo last week. The tour consists of Art of Dying, HaleStorm, Skillet, Theory of a Deadman, and Stone Sour. This was a great lineup. All the bands were heavy, but not too heavy...just what I like. I got there after Art of Dying was into their set. I liked them. I’ll be sure to catch their full set next time them come through my way. This was my second time seeing HaleStorm. The last time, I got there just as they played the last song of [...]

Supdafuh - Act of Faith Ft. CL Smooth (Smooth Jazz Mix) Buy The Digital Version or Order the Vinyl on Bandcamp With the legendary CL Smooth and incredible underground sensation Eternia, Supafuh strikes back in 2011. The French artist of the MC Solaar’s (french dopest MC of the 90’s) school set the bar very high, after a year 2010 already hyper-active (an EP and his first album 10 ANS TROP TARD). With its evocative title, the 12 "vinyl JUST [...]

Exray’s Hesitation I stumbled (literally) upon Exray’s show at SXSW and have been a serious fan ever since. Of course the bay area’s hip-to-just-about-everything bloggers EOTB and Epicsauce have known about these guys since their creation. Spread the music love my way boys! With the debut of their video for their funky little number Hesitation in SPIN last month, these boys are bout to blow up. Check em’ out if [...]
Origin's Hesitation marked the beginning of a new era for Fushitsusha. It was the group's first album in two years, its first release on PSF since 1994, and its first recording session as a duo. Upon the departure of the drummer, Keiji Haino dropped the electric guitar to sit behind the drum set. He and bassist Yasushi Ozawa attempt to fill the void left by this change with samplers, looping

Man, Sam Cooke is the greatest. Peter Guralnick wrote a great chapter on him in his 1986 book "Sweet Soul Music," and that piece of writing continues to inspire. If there is time enough, I'll post again about the great versatility, charisma and business-sense that made him one of the most important artists of the 20th century, but for now, how 'bout a song? As far as I know, Cooke only recorded a couple of duets with Lou Rawls: the great "Bring It On Home To Me," and the equally powerful "That's Where It's At." The [...]
