Sorry for the late morning, but I met friends for our monthly breakfast. We worked together for years and are all retired now so this is our way of staying in touch. During breakfast, the snow started. The flakes are small and wet so none are sticking, but that will happen soon enough. I bought seed and suet this morning so I need to fill the feeders as soon as I finish here. My car is backed into the driveway, the best spot to get it freed after the plowing. I have no reason to leave the house [...]

Facebook / hillstheband.bandcamp.com/ It's Friday and I'm away for the weekend (again!), what better to bring in the last few hours of work before heading up to Manchester than some sweet, sweet indie/surf pop from LA, Hills are a new, young four-piece who according to their own bio 'spent one summer writing songs at a beach house in California', the results are well worth your investigation for their debut self-titled LP (available for FREE via bandcamp ) is a beautiful, I-wish-it-still-sunny listen.... Sure, sun-kissed dream-pop is a saturated market [...]
The prolific Ty Segall makes 2012 the year of the fuzz rock onslaught with Twins, his third LP of the year.
So, Ty Segall and his band stopped by WGN Morning News yesterday morning to perform a new track from his upcoming LP, Twins . And while I've seen a few places describe the performance as Ty Segall going crazy or whatever, I can assure you that, as someone who saw Ty at Logan Square Auditorium last weekend, this is just how he rolls. He blazes through the tune - a high energy fuzz-garage attack - then ends with a demented yell of "Chicago!" over and over in the mic. Perhaps the best [...]
Drunk Music Reviews is Caitlin Behle and John Sebastian. Caitlin reviews a show while progressively getting drunker, while illustrator John Sebastian turns the drunken reviews, which could be ridiculous, sloppy or just plain insulting, into a comic. Notes: The captions that end with @ drunkmusicrevws were pulled from their Twitter account during the show. Tweets ending with J are reviews from John, while tweets ending with C are from Caitlin. The chart at the bottom of every illustration shows the drink tallies for the night. [...]

Jingles are fairly repugnant to the ears. Always have been; always will be. Yet similarly routinely, jangle tends to sound as effervescent now as it did yonks back when The Popguns were still firing off seductive charmers left, right, and bloody centre. Ah, The Popguns. Swoon. Best save some of that affection for Hills , however: hailing from over the Woodland Hills and far away, the L.A. five-piece combine the cutesy smacks of atypical seafarers Tennis with the scatty contentment of Bethany Cosentino's cruddy early demos to emit a wistful, if decidedly estival slo-surf . So [...]

Directed by Ty Segall & Peter Grimm. From the single on Drag City, also available on the LP/CASS/CD "Twins" coming out in October 2012.

Big ups to Dimitri Vangelis and Wyman for bringing you another late summer mix packed with all the main stage hits you'd expect and a loud peppering of chart climbers to ease the transition of getting back to school. Try not to get suspended before October, I know it might be tempting but do yourself [...]
I think there's more than one Ty Segall walking the planet right now or something, because the California garage rocker is about to drop his third-yes, third-project this year. His previous two releases were great, rowdy rock records, and it'll be exciting to see if he can keep the consistency up with this new solo album titled Twins , which is looking at an October release, I believe, via Drag City records. "The Hill" is the first song to come from the album, and it'll have a 73 release on September 4th. The [...]
Ty Segall is releasing another album, Twins , in October. Check out the first single, The Hill .

The hardest working man in indie rock is back at it again with yet another new single, this one preparing us for his upcoming record, Twins . Personally, this is one of my favorite new Ty songs of the last year; I like the way it opens up with chilled female vocals before Ty bursts in with his usual squall of guitar noise. And, while it would be easy for the female voice to disappear, Ty keeps it in there to counterbalance his own whaling. This is probably the [...]

In which Ty Segall comes through stunning. This sounds like a John Lennon cover of Beck's "Devils Haircut." The ethereal acid-jangled vocals, snarling guitars, and pumping piston drums. When I interviewed Tim Presley of White Fence , he told me that he firmly believed that Segall was that dude. Of course, indie rock guys doesn't use the word "that dude." But the verbiage was close. I have faith in the durability and linguistic evolution of psych rock. After all, when I say Jack White last night at Outside Lands, he ripped four consecutive blues-tinted burners and addressed the crowd, [...]
