Day 3 of our 4-day countdown of the best of the year. Part 1 (80-61) can be found here . Part 2 (60-41) can be found here . To recap: AlbatRoss and I had 2 guidelines we stuck to in compiling this list: 1) it had to be rap (meaning no R&B - Frank Ocean and Miguel had killer years but they won't be found on this list) and 2) one song per project on the list. We did this (including honorable mentions, of course) to make sure we brought a good variety from the list and not to [...]

It’s time to kick off my best of 2012 coverage by listing my Favorite Recordings of 2012 . Here are 24 albums that I really loved this year. Listen to the tracks below, (and if you have not already) fall in love and go buy some albums. The Psyched by The Psyched Cut The Chord (mp3) Buy The Psyched @ bandcamp.com [...]
This is a mournful moment, given the heartbreaking news coming from Connecticut . And while there are far better uses of your time and bandwidth right now - demandaplan.org , for instance - this here is what we do. We watch videos all week, and then decide which ones we like best, and then we recap them. We do that work because it's the work that fosters this community, and in return we have a place where we can talk about how maybe we should all meditate on the root causes of an incident like this. And address [...]
Das Racist's Heems has already put out one mixtape this year: The scattered and ferocious Nehru Jackets , which showed deeper reserves of rage and confusion than you'd ever expect from anyone once widely considered to be a joke-rapper. Today, he was planning on releasing another, Wild Water Kingdom . But - a weird irony, considering the tape's title - the recent New York flooding has kept Heems away from his computer, so the tape isn't quite mixed and ready yet. We've already heard two of its tracks, " Killing Time " and " [...]

In 2010, Himanshu Suri, aka Heems , made a name for himself as the joke rap pioneer behind the duo Das Racist , famous for their nonsensical hit “Pizza Hut and Taco Bell.” Two years later, Heems’ is back at it again with the release of his sophomore mixtape Wild Water Kingdom , proving that his raps are anything but cheesy. On this cut from the mixtape, the Punjabi emcee brazenly spits over the complementary Harry Fraud -produced beat with a heavy drum-fill over a repeating billowy and vibrant sample. The hectic instrumental hits in [...]

It's time to check out a bunch of the tracks I have not posted recently. These are just a few of the songs that would get their own individual posts here on GIMME TINNITUS if I only had the time. Here is the next NOT POSTED mix. Listen. Downloadables: Static (mp3) by Black Marble Insides (mp3) by The Soft Moon Fang ( Black Marble Lost Borough Remix) (mp3) by [...]

Some of you may remember the month of February, which was about eight months ago. On Valentine's Day, I released the trailer for my first short film, DOSA HUNT , and then forced Corban under duress and threat of termination of employment to post it here on Stereogum. Well, the movie is finally complete, and I'm very proud of it. It's premiering at Nitehawk Cinema in Williamsburg this weekend, and I want my online family there, so I am posting it here for your information. (You guys = fam.) Each ticket [...]

Photo by Derek Staples Though the members of Das Racist have spent most of 2012 releasing their own solo material , the trio of Heems, Kool A.D., and Dapwell will come together next month for a U.S. tour. The trek begins with an appearance at Lexington, KY's Boomslang on September 20th, followed by headlining tour dates running through mid-October. They're also set to appear at the Virgin Mobile FreeFest on October 6th. Check out the full calendar below. Also, here's a download of "Killing Time", [...]

Prefix dropped the instrumental tape, it features an extra lo-fi version of the intro track Thug Handles. Get the actual tape, (with raps) here . Listen to more Heems, here . Visit Nehru Jackets, here . Don't trip, here .
New mixtape, Wild Water Kingdom , to follow in the fall. Heems begins his latest track, "Killing Time", with a declaration of boredom. That seems funny, considering the Das Racist emcee has been keeping busy enough this year to make most rappers jealous. While at work on the next Das Racist album, Heems will release another solo mixtape, Wild Water Kingdom, this fall. Following closely on January's fantastic Nehru Jackets, Wild Water Kingdom features Diplo, Harry Fraud, and fellow Wesleyan alumnus Le1f, among other guests. Produced...
Himanshu , aka Heems of Das Racist , has one of the most unique, goofy styles in hip-hop. On his most recent release, "Killing Time," he goes in lyrically with an extremely intelligent and insightful stream of consciousness over the noisy and addicting production of Yorissey. The Queens-based artist transitions flawlessly between topics discussing everything from structural societal issues to his own personal tendency to not care what others think. Das Racist is planning to release their second album early next year. In the meantime, stream and download this cut, which will be featured on Himanshu's [...]
Off the Das Racist member's forthcoming mixtape.

The "hindu Ralph Ellison" is preparing to release the follow up to his stellar debut solo mixtape, Nehru Jackets , with Wild Water Kingdom coming this fall. "Killing Time" is the first taste we get from the project, and it features a markedly more ferocious flow from the, typically aloof, MC. Shouts to Yorissey on the boards! Heems, one third of Das Racist , already dropped one of our favorite projects of the year with Nehru Jackets . And now it appears that he might have TWO spots on the list. At least, that's how I'm feeling after hearing "Killing Time", the Echo and the Bunnymen-sampling lead single off this fall's Wild Water Kingdom . Hima even takes a moment to get his quick-spitter on here, which serves as a slick juxtaposition to his more laid-back rhymes in the opening verse. Don't hurt 'em, Heems. You can stream [...]
Later this fall, Queens rapper Heems will put out a new mixtape called Wild Water Kingdom , a follow-up to his extremely solid Nehru Jackets mixtape that he released in January. Today, he dropped the first cut, a track produced by BLKHRTS ' Yorrissey, an uptempo, clever cut called "Killing Time." Download it below. Read More...

Some weeks, it's not easy to find a balance. This is not one of those weeks. From Kid Cudi back to rapping over a Hit Boy beat to Grimes helping out with a Blood Diamonds track and an awesome remix of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes, the past 7 days have offered a variety wide enough for the listener who likes everything. And thankfully, a lot of it was free. Click “next” or hit shift + right to listen to/download the tracks...
Yesterday, San Antonio producer Beautiful Lou released Sumone 2 B Young With, a delightful compilation of old and new songs. Falling into the latter category is a fresh collaboration with Das Racist's Himanshu Suri. On ... read more

"Running Thru The Jungle" is from a collection of Beautiful Lou-produced joints called Sumone 2 B Young With . This one features (newly signed) Das Racist's Heems , who brings that lackadaisical, half-sedated flow over Lou's deep beat. Don't expect a hook. Check out "Running Thru The Jungle" below.
