Special Edition Snobcast: For Fans Of Denver Post Underground Music Showcase

What is the UMS you ask? Well that's a silly question. Many have called the Denver Post Underground Music Showcase the "South by Southwest of Denver." Originally a one day, four band gig at the Bluebird, this showcase has bounced between Bluebird and Gothic before finally moving (and exanding) to South Broadway in the historic Baker district. Otherwise known as the hipster herding grounds. Excerpted directly from the UMS About page: "At the UMS , the presentation of the music is as important as the music itself. It's the songwriter circle in the Persian rug boutique; [...]

Snobcast: For Fans Of Westword Music Showcase 2009

Yesterday was the 15th Annual Westword Music Showcase and one of the best turnouts I've seen at this Denver event. A few days ago I posted a Special Edition Snobcast where I wrote an extensive preview about the bands I felt were highlights this year. This wasn't meant to diminish any of the other bands playing, it's just that in most cases I had already seen many of the other bands worth seeing. So now that the showcase is over and done with I'm sure you're wondering to yourself (or maybe even out-loud), "Hey Father Guido! [...]

The Hollyfelds (ALL OF THEM)

Hey y'all!! We're going a little bit country this week, and featuring…. The Hollyfelds!!!!!! The Hollyfelds play country music the way it's supposed to be played: fun, funny, sexy, and tattooed. At the Donnybrook-sponsored Hillbilly Prom a few weeks ago they covered a Dolly Parton song that would have killed anybody who ever said "I like all kinds of music, except country". Who the fuck SAYS that, anyway? That's just stupid. So, y'all- at the aforementioned Hillbilly Prom it was decided amongst [...]

"I can't be the one to help you forget, but you might be the one, so I won't give up yet."

The Hollyfelds - Black Heart Blue Verdict: Love (<)+ (This is a review of The Hollyfelds's new album, but I really don't start saying the really nice stuff about it until the last paragraph, so if that's what you're here for, go to the last paragraph) I've been a fan on the Hollyfelds for a while now . I've only seen them once since they opened for Langhorne Slim last year, but that didn't really [...]

Interview: The Hollyfelds

Interview: The Hollyfelds A few weeks ago, I helped dragged a table out into a bar parking lot on a lovely Sunday afternoon and interviewed last summer's winners of Denver's best alt-country band title, The Hollyfelds . They have a new EP coming out Friday, and they played at our Hillbilly Prom last weekend (oh wait, that was the Lurleens ). Feel free to jet on over to Gigbot.com and see what we had to talk about .
