The wind is howling and twisting and turning the pine branches which seem to bend enough to touch the ground. The rain began falling last night, and when I woke up, I could hear it on the roof and windows. As I'm writing, wet snow, slanted by the wind from the north, is beginning to fall, but it hasn't the look of permanence. The rain will be back, and the wind will howl all day into tomorrow. The wind is the sort which is the backbone of every tale told by the fire, tales of creatures who roam the [...]

Back in November our enthusiastic scribbler Dan Carson described Gymnophobia, the debut EP from Bristol's Velcro Hooks , as sounding like " a swarm of wasps desperately trying to escape an empty tequila bottle; ferociously angry and wholly uncompromising." Now, just like their stripy, pesky counterparts, the Hooks seem to have discovered a rather tasty affection for smooshed fruit. Check out their guiltily-sexy video for Love Song For T S Eliot below... http://www.facebook.com/velcro hooks

Words by Dan Carson Authentic British guitar music is dead: but nobody seems to have told the guys at Howling Owl Records . The latest release on their stringently DIY label comes from another darling of Bristol’s ever expanding stable of fuzz rock obsessives, Velcro Hooks . Until recently, the quartet operated under a self-imposed online blackout; preferring wig outs in sweaty sub-toilet venues including graveyard crypts and house parties as their principal method of PR. Their debut EP, Gymnophoria, not only heralds their entry to the digital age [...]

Harlem rapper, Azealia Banks released this lyrical monument two days ago via her SoundCloud. This is the product of her interfacing with the Scottish icon Hudson Mohawke and Swedish production veteran, Nick Hook . Nick launched his first club in London called Up, which later became London's legendary Loosen Up . Azealia has recently announced that she is cancelling all festival dates to put all her efforts towards her debut album. Download for free below. Bless, Rader
Today is no different from yesterday or the day before or the day before that one. My deck still has its winter look. None of the furniture is uncovered, and the candles are yet to be hung from the trees. This cold and damp weather doesn't invite the deck's summer finery. I go out and fill the feeders then hurry back in cold from the dampness. It rained again last night, and I have a parade of paw prints across my kitchen floor. I'll throw in a Pollyanna moment here and say there is an upside. My lawn looks green [...]

There must be something in the water in Bristol at the moment. The last year or so has seen a constant string of brilliant bands coming out of the city; not to mention record stores and record labels thriving and a brilliant DIY live scene... The next band to catch our ears here at GFP is Velcro Hooks , who have just released their debut single The Surfing Song. As debut singles go, it's a sparkling mark of intent - all slacker-vibes and fuzzy, DIY riffs. The band have been deliberately low-key and off-the-map so [...]

CLICK IMAGE TO VIEW VIDEO After putting out the original "Year Of The Underdog" last year, I kept on getting positive feedback from various people telling me how much they loved the story and how the track was produced. For the original, I dropped a 32 bar verse with a 8 bar hook and as good as I think the finished product was, I always knew I could get more life out of the song. It was then that I decided to do an official remix... [...]

Here's yet another teenage DJ/Producer coming up in the EDM world. American youngster Henry Steinway, aka Clockwork, exploded onto the scene with his heavy electro remix of Avicii's levels and hasn't stopped since. Signed to Aoki's Dim Mak records, Clockwork is back with a remix of Joachim Garraud & Alesia's "Hook." Featuring a drum-rattling baseline and big synth build-ups, this remix has already garnered support from the likes of Hardwell, Felix Cartal, and Autoerotique. Stay tuned for the release on Dim Mak on March 5th. Via : Facebook (Clockwork)
Dubstep duo, Zeds Dead recently released their wild rendition of Sabi's "Wild Heart." It's the sort of heavy-hitting, low-end growling, aggressive production style we've come to expect from DC and Hooks. A unique amalgamation of dubstep, electro and drum and bass this remix is for the bass-heads only. The opening vocals might fool the casual listener into thinking this is a progressive track, but the moment it drops any illusions are quickly dispelled - this one is mean. Summery, fun, catchy, and lo-fi is a sound a lot of new acts shoot for, but few of them actually achieve it on the level of Vermont singer-songwriter Kyle Thomas. Whether you're listening to some of his solo stuff under the name "King Tuff," or some tracks from his band Happy Birthday , you'll probably hear a hook that'll be worth humming for weeks. Thomas has a new single dropping under the King Tuff name on Suicide Squeeze this April, and you can stream it above. The title: "Wild Desire." I'd say the title is pretty appropriate, [...]
