Jesus, this looks frightening. One of the things that has been so depressing about horror movies of late is that they are so divorced from contemporary life. They don't touch upon the inherent fears of modern society. Looks like director Steven Soderbergh has managed to make a movie that does tap into the collective fear of germs and widespread infectious disease outbreaks. Speaking of teaser posters , Devin Faraci got his hands on a teaser poster for the remake/prequel of Carpenter's The Thing. Why it's being called The Thing when it's supposed to technically be a prequel is beyond me, but that seems to be the case. It comes out in October. Interestingly, the URL on the bottom of the poster just redirects back to the Universal Pictures homepage. The question is why make a prequel and call it the same thing as Carpenter's masterpiece? The first Scream was pretty dang great, and if the profiteers hadn't forced the movie to be a franchise, the Wes Craven original would have to be regarded as one of the pinnacles of the genre. Alas, that wasn't the case, and it's difficult to separate out the original's brilliance from the other entries into the franchise.
