HOLY SHIT - I just found the aptly named "In the Zone" by Airbird & Napolian (with beautiful guest vocals by solo artist/Au Revoir Simone's Erika Spring ) a few days ago and I can't believe everyone isn't freaking out about it! Great production all throughout, but 2 minutes in the dough really starts to rise and what you're left with is fucking delicious. ZONE OUT: this is the new flesh.
I know I was anxiously awaiting a new Run DMT release after 2011's brilliant Dreams tape. At long last, news has arrived from the furthest reaches of the Earth: after being chased away from his namesake by shitty DJs, Michael Collins has now reemerged with the genius name Salvia Plath . There's a new record coming out - it's called The Bardo Story , it comes out July 8th on Weird World and that's the crazy radical artwork for it above by Robert Beatty . Here's the [...]
Goddamn, I was not expecting a new Weekend album to be announced today, but sometimes you get lucky: Jinx is out July 23rd from Slumberland . Enjoy "Mirror", the album's very, very great first single.
Young Galaxy have delivered quality tunes for years now, but "New Summer" captures something truly special in 4 minutes and 12 seconds. It's worthy of endless repeats; with this and the other tracks floating out there, I am very curious to see what Ultramarine (out April 23rd) is going to bring to the table.
There's always a curiosity that is in the air whenever a new Deerhunter song is released for the first time: can they keep it up? "Monomania", the title track from their May 7th long player, shows that yes they can indeed keep it up. In fact, they sound more erect and reinvigorated than ever before.
Here's the crazy infectious "Weight", another track from Mikal Cronin 's upcoming album MCII . This song is seriously the best thing I've ever heard from him.
MP3: Thee Oh Sees - Toe Cutter - Thumb Buster "Toe Cutter - Thumb Buster" takes the award for riff of the month; it also sounds like a nice day out in the fucking sunshine. Floating Coffin by Thee Oh Sees is released by Castle Face on April the 16th. #cantwait
While I've liked most everything I've heard from AlunaGeorge thus far, "Attracting Flies" is the first HOLY SHIT song of theirs that has hit my ears. It's beat and vocals are butter slick, lettuce fresh and bubblegum catchy - it's the kind of track you need to instantly repeat as soon as it's over. Their debut Body Music doesn't come out until the summer, which is criminal but also perfect timing for something of this caliber.
After a slam dunk of a debut single , CHVRCHES return with a stellar layup: "Recover" is the title track from the group's forthcoming ep, out March 26th in the US on Glassnote .
Unknown Mortal Orchestra once again delivers on incredible production, musicianship and lyricism on "So Good at Being in Trouble", from February 5th's excellent II .
It's a new year, which means we can count on The Men releasing another killer album - New Moon comes out March 5th, while the first single "Electric" will be released as a 7 inch later this month, with non-album cut "Water Babies" on side B. Oh yes, I like 2013 very much.
(click title for MP3) 1. Grimes - Oblivion 2. Beach House - Myth 3. Chromatics - Kill for Love 4. King Tuff - Bad Thing 5. Cloud Nothings - Stay Useless 6. Icona Pop - I Love It 7. CHVRCHES - The Mother We Share 8. Ty Segall - The Hill 9. Japandroids - The House That Heaven Built 10. Major Lazer - Get Free (feat. Amber Coffman) [...]
MP3: Chromatics - Cherry Chromatics "Cherry" After Dark 2 Italians Do It Better 2012 Director: Alberto Rossini From the frothingly anticipated After Dark 2 . It’s nice when the right song comes along at exactly the time you need to hear it. Simply perfect.
Here's a track by CHVRCHES that I'm sure everyone loves by now, but I didn't see it P4K best new music or anything, so check it out. The 7 inch is way sold out, so try discogs or ebay or your local thrift store. Good luck!
A new Cold Cave offering means the group has gone through it's semi-regular sea change, retaining only it's CEO Wesley Eisold in the process. While a tour has been booked with a new band , Eisold wrote and recorded a new 7 inch by his lonesome in the process: A Little Death to Laugh is 3 songs "inspired by the late poet Tristan Corbiere". He must've been awesome, because this song rules. The first pressing of 500 sold out super quick, so another batch is being offered. Don't miss out: http://coldcave.net/site/store /recordings/a-little-death-to- laugh-7/
Future Islands are already back with a new 7 inch, returning to Upset the Rhythm (who released their wonderful debut) for "Tomorrow" b/w "The Fountain" . As you already know, these guys can't write a bad song and are great at making you feel real happy or real sad - "Tomorrow" is a sad one, so get ready to break down and internalize some shit. Don't worry, it'll be real good for you.
MP3: Tame Impala - Elephant Tame Impala has written many great songs, but "Elephant" is the first one I've heard that is unforgettable . With it's hazy production values and a riff like a fist, the track is just completely unrelenting through and through - it's a virus that will forever rest deep within your insides, constantly pummeling you as a reminder that this is the real fucking shit and you ain't worth a goddamn thing. Fuck yeah.
Tamaryn 's last album The Waves is still a huge favorite of mine, so it's safe to say any new music is highly anticipated. Well, we're all in luck: Tender New Signs is out on October 16th (via Mexican Summer ) and the first single (it's GREAT!) is available now in a YouTube video. Hope you like flowers!
MP3: Sam Flax - Fire Doesn't Burn Itself Sam Flax "Fire Doesn't Burn Itself" Age Waves Burger Records 2012 Director: Sam Flax w/ OutofFocus.tv Hey! Here's a great video for Age Waves ' opening track, featuring the Flax band seamlessly interspersed with some bonkers vintage clips - you're gonna dig it! I still cherish this tape, which is sadly sold out [...]
MP3: Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti - Only In My Dreams I was away, so this one is a bit late in being posted. In fact, this was posted to the world as I was leaving Philadelphia this past Monday and I listened to it on the bus through headphones... and it didn't blow me away. So I put it in my pocket, expecting that to be my sad conclusion, until I returned last night and put it on where it beamed triumphant! The lesson? Fuck headphones, Ariel [...]
