It's been awhile since I last heard from The Belle Game. Since some of the members are in Montreal and the other members are in Vancouver. They haven't been touring recently except for a stop in Toronto during NXNE. Sadly I happened to miss them but would have wanted to see them. Anyways the band finally released a new song which is featured on The Peak Performance Project ( 100.5FM ). The radio station have been putting it on for the past 2 years. Their goal [...]

Time New Viking have premiered the music video for " Try Harder ". The track is off the band's latest album ' Dancer Equired '. Directed by Juliane Piecha and Ian Cook , the music video features live footage of the band projected onto different objects, mostly what appears to be a house.

Ian Cooke busted out several new songs for his performance at the Westword Music Showcase last year. Hopefully these will surface on a new album sometime in 2011. Maybe it was the excellent on-stage sound at the Fox, or maybe it was the crowd energy...whatever the reasons, the Ian Cooke Band was on fire this night. The Denver Post ran a story last month detailing the work of a very cool ongoing study about the city's high " Creative Vitality Index ," which measures economic factors related to the music community. Through a series of qualitative interviews (I got to wax lyrical a few months ago over mimosas; it's how we do research here) and analysis of quantitative data, they discovered that music matters in Denver — "even more than it does in self-declared music cities like Seattle, Austin, Chicago and Portland." According to the study, the amount spent per person on [...]

Yes, I know it's been awhile. Time to get this train back on the tracks. Here's something to tide you over until I can get some newer material tracked out... Welcome, my loves, to a special edition "Jumping on the Bandwagon" Denver's Most Fuckable Rockstar!!! This past weekend, for those of you who live in a cave, under a rock, with the lights out and your fingers in your ears, was the Underground Music Showcase. It's quickly becoming the South By Southwest of Denver, a showcasing of the awesome underground music that this city has to offer. Also, you can get really hammered because all the venues are in walking distance of each other. So, me and JB, being the rawkstars that [...]
Yesterday was the 15th Annual Westword Music Showcase and one of the best turnouts I've seen at this Denver event. A few days ago I posted a Special Edition Snobcast where I wrote an extensive preview about the bands I felt were highlights this year. This wasn't meant to diminish any of the other bands playing, it's just that in most cases I had already seen many of the other bands worth seeing. So now that the showcase is over and done with I'm sure you're wondering to yourself (or maybe even out-loud), "Hey Father Guido! [...]

First up is Ian Cooke and his album opener 'Music' . It's got great lyrics, and if you didn't know I have a huge sexual fetish for strings. Ian Cooke plays cello and he plays it well, like a groovy, afro-wielding, cello-playing badass. Seriously, look at him right here . He's so cute and innocent yet at the same time a total badass. That's a dynamic I can aspire to become. I just really need to work on my hair. I mean, how can you even get hair like that? It has to be natural, that's [...]

Holy awesome of all awesomes, getting hammered with Magic Cyclops? The best fucking time in the world! Only we didn't exactly get hammered with him...in fact he expressed his wishes for "no paparazzi," "especially Donnybrook," and really only he let us capture him vomiting on film. But those three seconds felt magical, really. I'd like to relive the moments of Wednesday night at the Starz Denver International 31st Film Festival Music Lounge (sponsored by Westword) . And if you noticed I screwed up the name, that's precisely the point - can't we get a better name next [...]
