Anyone else having a bad day? Anyone else have one of their website hacked (not this one)? What doesn't kill you makes you stronger... Soundtrack to this exact moment (and making my mood shift to the more positive side of the spectrum), "Sunsick" by Fort Lean . Nothing like pounding drums, reverby guitars and "wooo wooo's" to peak my interest and take my mind off other things. This song will be released on 73 via Neon Gold/Black Bell Records and was p roduced by Ayad Al Adhamy from Passion [...]
"The Fox" by Niki & The Dove . Directed by WINTR, this video is visually stunning and slightly confusing. It reminds of those guys in windsuits who jump off cliffs and soar down mountain ranges. Only, this jumper's fox helmet morphs, smokes and detects polygonal heat signatures. Plus the parachute is made of streamers. I wouldn't have thought of that. Will I forget this video? Probably not. Grab the track below too.

I spent some time over the weekend with the Band Of Skulls ' sophomore album Sweet Sour and I almost wore out the repeat button. This album was originally slated to be released later this month but has been pushed up to next week and will be exclusively on iTunes Tuesday 2/7, and then all retailers on 2/14. Have you heard the title track? Download it below.

"Red Face" by British indie songstress Lucy Rose . This winter, Lucy will be on the road doing double duty as the opener for and backing vocals for Bombay Bicycle Club on their North American tour.

I am heading back to SXSW this year, after two years off. Pumped. I'm also on a panel about the work I do at Bearsuit . Should be an eventful week. But, the reason why I made this post was to point you towards this handy guide DO512 has put together. Basically, its a list/schedule of all the bands that I've written on my site that are playing SXSW this year. Play around with it, stream some new bands and make your own schedule. Check it out here .

Here's the single from the forthcoming album ( Wild Lines ) from eastcoaster Mike O'Neill (formerly of The Inbreds). Channeling timeless pop with a "rolling shuffle of drums and lush backing vocals", "Henry" seems like a great reason for me to pick up this record (which follows up his 2004 classic, The Owl) . To support the record, O'Neill will be touring Eastern Canada with an appearance at Shivering Songs ( http://shiveringsongs.com/ ) in Fredericton on February 04, and a album release date in Halifax at the Carleton on February 29. Full dates [...]
"Misplaced" by The Acorn , shot February 25th, 2011 in Sandbanks Provincial Park, Ontario.

This is the new track from LA band Superhumanoids , I recommend you grab this track. Look for the upcoming album Exhibitionists .
"Colours" by Young Liars , the first single off their EP "Homesick Future", which drops next month on Feb 21st. Stream a couple other tracks from the EP below.

Occasionally, I'll head over to the Hype Machine and take a listen to whats charting. Its kind of more like me wondering what I might be missing (or have missed). Case in point, the new track from Tennis . The Denver husband and wife pop duo (Alaina Moore and Patrick Riley) are back with a new album, Young & Old , which will be released on Valentine's Day. Perhaps you've heard the first two singles off said album, "My Better Self" is the third official release.

"Leaving Me" by With Lions , from the EP Touch the Sound .

Ever wonder what happens when you fly a bunch of North American songwriters to Toronto, pile them in a van with will all their gear and send them up north to Collingwood, ON to live and write music for a week? The result is the Casablanca sessions. Fourteen songwriters began to write in groups at the beach, others in their rooms, and mid-day would put these ideas to tape. Throughout the week eighteen songs were created. Birthday candles were blown out. Beards were shaved. Friendships were made. You can stream the entire mix here, head down a [...]

This perked my ear today, thanks to Swedes Please . Check out the latest from Swedish electro duo Kids , here's "My Sincerest Apologies" (song/video). Kids - My Sincerest Apologies from David HJ. Lindberg on Vimeo .
My 3rd favourite song from my 2nd favourite album of last year . Here's "Brothers" by The War On Drugs , from the album Slave Ambient . The War on Drugs - Brothers from Secretly Jag on Vimeo .

Did you check out that post of my favourite new artists of 2011 ? I included a band, solely on one track released near the end of last year. The song was "Lost Communication" and the band is East London electronic trio Anothers Blood . You can purchase the song from Family Records here . Well, the band have announced details of a new single 'Through The Dark'. This along with b-side 'Foreign Nights' will be released as a free download for 24 hours on 27th February via their website. 'Through The Dark' deftly [...]
"Pictures" (below) sees Benjamin Francis Leftwich at his most melancholic; a haunting reverb-laden vocal layered up delicate finger picking. The song is taken from the album 'Last Smoke Before The Snowstorm'. 'Pictures' will be released as a single on February 20th 2012. Also, be sure to check out the GZUS remix of the song too. Its not too much of a departure from the original, but its nice to hear the song with something to tap your foot to.

Loving the latest from Mason Proper's Jonathan Visger (aka Absofacto ). "Lies" is a surprising 6 and a half minutes, but an sonic adventure with attention to melody and syncopation. Stream the track below or PWYC at bandcamp . Lies by Absofacto
"Big Broom" by Races , from the album Year Of The Witch (out March 27th). Races "Big Broom" [Official Music Video] from Edward Chase Masterson on Vimeo .

Bahamas (aka Canadian Afie Jurvanen) is back with a new album, his sophomore LP Barchords , out on February 7th via Brushfire Records. To go along with his first single "Caught Me Thinkin'", we can now hear " I Got You Babe " (via Consequence of Sound ). Don't be confused though, this is not the song by Sonny and Cher. "It's a song about a guy who's losing someone. About a guy who would do things differently, if given the chance."

Vancouver-based Yukon Blonde are gearing up to release their newest full-length album, Tiger Talk set for a March 20 release with Dine Alone Records . The first single ("Stairway", below) has the band sounding the poppiest I've ever heard them, and will be release on 73 vinyl January 31. The band are currently in the midst of a world-wide tour, look for them soon in the US on their way down to SXSW. The Colin Stewart ( Black Mountain, Ladyhawk ) produced record features tracks that are short [...]
