California five-piece The Neighbourhood burst onto the scene just over a year ago shrouded in mystery. In fact, for a while, their name was really all we knew. Over the next few months and especially after the release of their brilliant debut EP, I'm Sorry… , more information on the band trickled out , revealing a young band that had a clear sense of direction, vision, and aesthetic. Much was - and continues to be - made about their preference for black & white [...]

If you haven't paid attention to the cheerleading and bile surrounding Zach Braff's Kickstarter project , this post might send you down an emo rabbit hole you never intended to pursue. Apologies ahead of time. However, if your emotions are somehow (negatively or positively) invested in the $1.5 million in 24 hours raised for Braff's "Garden State" follow-up, you should know that the hate campaign isn't ending anytime soon. Tim Heidecker, co-creator of Adult Swim's "Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!," wrote a one-page script in response to Braff's need for cash. A dimly [...]

Only a couple of artists in 2012 have risen as quickly as The Neighbourhood have, having gone from near obscurities at the start of the year to loved by friends and family the world over. After dropping a couple of singles and then their excellent debut EP I'm Sorry... , 2013 is set to be even bigger for the Californian five-piece. Not only will we be getting their debut album, but in January they're releasing a new 73 single called [...]

T.I. gets Andre 3000 to deliver a rare verse on his new track “Sorry”. Featuring a soulful Jazze Pha beat, this will certainly build anticipation for his upcoming LP Trouble Man: Heavy is the Head, out December 18th on Atlantic Records.
The Neighbourhood "Let It Go" The Neighbourhood continues their hot streak with another great song and video (directed by Daniel Iglesias and Zack Sekuler ). I'm sure I'll be bringing The Neighbourhood's I'm Sorry... EP up again when I make my year-end Top EP's list, but until then I recommend checking it out here . -Alex Let [...]

With his new album right around the corner, T.I. lets loose his highly anticipated collab with Mr. Gillette himself, Andre 3000. And while Tip comes through with two solid 162s, it's Three Stack's extended verse that is sure to catch everyone's attention. "...and this the type of shit that'll make you call your rap partner and say 'I'm sorry I'm awkward, my fault for fucking up all the tours.'" -Andre 3000 Don't know about everyone else, but I don't want [...]

The Neighbourhood can't have much to feel #dark about these days. Their debut EP I'm Sorry… has received near universal acclaim, they were snagged by Columbia within seconds of hitting the collective blog consciousness, and their national tour is about to explode worldwide as they head to Australia in 2013. But the California boys must be brooding about something because "Let It Go" brings us a gloomier take of the hip hop street-infused surf rock we fell in love with last spring. The excellent new track gushes with the kind of introspection usually [...]

If you follow the site at all, you'll know that we think The Neighbourhood are one of the best new bands to come out of this year. After first naming them Ones To Watch in March based on the strength of two songs, among them song of the year contender "Sweater Weather" , we followed up with a Spotlight on the week of the release of their stellar I'm Sorry... [...]

At the moment one of our favourite new bands of the year and hotly-tipped to become huge, The Neighbourhood are travelling around the U.K. and when they were in London they stopped by the Maida Vale studios to play a couple of songs. The first was "Female Robbery" and the second was a cover of Souls Of Mischief 's debut album track "93 To Infinity" from the album of the same name. The band's debut EP [...]
The Neighbourhood - Female Robbery from The Neighbourhood on Vimeo . LA's The Neighbourhood have added another black and white video to their repertoire, with the morose "Female Robbery". The macabre video features parents irreverently fighting in front of their kid, who's seen writing in her journal, "Why me?" Meanwhile Jesse Rutherford's voice rings out, "Please send me felon, And don’t let the police know…Anything, Anything, Don’t tell them anything." As for what's being hidden from the police, well you'll have to watch the video [...]

The Neighbourhood "Female Robbery" It may be because I used to be really into film, but most of my favorite music videos are ones where the song acts as only the soundtrack to the story being shown and the artists, if they are even in it, don't feel the need to have shots of themselves singing into the camera. Don't get me wrong there are many music videos I love where artists are the focus as they sing throughout, I just happen to usually fall on the other side [...]

I feel like there are three bands coming out of California right now that are making some big strides in indie pop. These bands are Blondfire , Max & the Moon (who will have a video featured here tomorrow), and The Neighbourhood . Thankfully they are all starting to get some big attention because of their contributions to the indie pop sound. However, The Neighbourhood completely exploded into our ears with their summertime anthem, Sweater Weather. Right after Sweater Weather's release, I quickly hopped on board The Neighbourhood bandwagon, and I've been a huge fan ever [...]

One of our most exciting new discoveries of 2012 is California's The Neighbourhood , a band who elicited such buzz in the LBYB offices that we not only tagged them as Ones To Watch , but had them in for a Spotlight week when they dropped their excellent debut EP I'm Sorry... As they're currently hard at work on their debut album, they've redone their video for standout track "Female Robbery" but tried to keep [...]
I was a little apprehensive going into my first listen of The Neighbourhood 's "I'm Sorry..." EP. I knew they could make a great track: "Sweater Weather" deserved every bit of its success, and is sitting comfortably at the top of my Tracks Of The Year list so far. "Female Robbery" didn't quite blow me away to the same extent, but it was certainly a pleasurable listen. So were these a couple of flashes in the pan, or a real indication of potential? Five songs is hardly enough [...]

I stumbled across the band The Neighborhood this morning to great pleasure. The band is a Los Angeles based quintet that mixes together a perfect blend of soul, indie rock and hip-hop. Their debut EP, I'm Sorry , can be streamed below and downloaded for free here . This is the best thing you'll download all week so go ahead and pick up a coy for your mom for Mother's Day while you're at it.

Check out The Neighbourhood 's pick for their Desert Island Discs , as part of their Spotlight . For our new Spotlight feature, we wanted to do something special, so we've decided to bring back Desert Island Discs . In case you're unfamiliar with what this you can check out the original pitch (back from July 2010)! Or, if you want the condensed version, it's basically the artist - in this case The Neighbourhood - selecting eight pieces of music that they'd [...]
