Tonight's song comes from John O'Regan, and his indie-pop/electronic-folk (yeah I'm genre tagging something electronic-folk) side-project Diamond Rings; his main project is fronting the Toronto-based indie-rock act The D'Ubervilles. As far as I can tell, the ridiculously charming All Yr Songs can only be found on a 7-inch vinyl split-release featuring Diamond Rings and Kingston, Ontario's PS I Love You. Unfortunately, said release has been sold out and I have no leads on how to get more music from Diamond Rings. If anyone has any information on a forthcoming release from the band, let me know. Until then, you [...]

Being a Brit I know a thing or two about arriving late. With the train system back home being reliably unreliable, it's rarely easy to show up at the most appropriate time. Quite what Floridian Mike Diaz's excuse is for the timing of his new musical output, however, is open to debate. MYSPACE / PUREVOLUME / LAST.FM [...]

One of my personal most anticipated release of the upcoming new year is definitely Spoon 's " Transference ". We've talked a bit about the new Spoon record in the past, more exactly about the few Transference tracks that have already been played live on the band's last tour. It now seems people will get the chance to have a first hand account of the new Spoon sooner than one may think, as in the following months the band will be touring through out the U.S. and Europe in support of Transference, which, by the way, will [...]

Erik Hassle, the well-coiffed young lad you've heard us rave about in the past, continues his onslaught of terrificness with this, an acoustic cover of the Is This It track "Someday" by The Strokes. Not much else to be said...
Sleep Whale - Make Another Picture I only recently became familiar with Sleep Whale, although it seems they've built up some noise over the past few... (Visit my blog for more!)

I don't like to toot my own horn too much (this is a lie), but I know a thing or two about biking (this is also a lie). I biked across these United States several years ago, and I learned a valuable lesson: 95% of this country is boring as shit. No, seriously. Do you remember driving across Iowa when you were a kid, finding entertainment only in drawing boundary lines with your brother in the backseat, the threat of war constantly a slight breach of fingertips away? Try biking that shit. My point is, of [...]
It just hit me how few of the artists I present here on Meadowmusic that actually sing in Swedish. After all, the purpose of the blog is to present new Swedish music, but I guess that's more or less how it is on the Swedish music scene today. If that's good or bad I'll let you decide for yourself. But when I listen to the indie-soul, sung in Swedish, from År & Dar , as a Swede, I definitely feel closer to the music. There's nothing in the way and the words find their way inside me [...]
Il successore di "Our Love to Admire" arriverà a inizio 2010.
Last night I caught the Brooklyn stop of the Evangelicals/Holiday Shores tour, which continues for five more days. Rarely have I seen two acts so perfectly suited to perform together: Both reference 1960s pop and garage rock while putting their different spins on it--and without sounding like simple regurgitation, the way a lot of "retro" bands do no matter what era they're copying. The first band I saw at Union Hall was Tallahassee, Florida's Holiday Shores. When you can say that a group's synth sounds evoke the classic Moog so perfectly, there isn't much more praise to [...]
(photo by Camilla Treharne) The Internet's been pretty on fire lately with coverage of this UK-based electro pop talent Ellie Goulding, and we'll go ahead and pour a little more kerosene on the blaze with our praise, albeit with some...

I apologize for my online absence - but there's some good stuff coming - I promise. That includes this selection of three noteworthy new artists of course: Sleep Whale - After a beautiful debut EP and an equally strong full-length both released this year, it was clear to me that Sleep Whale (originally known as Mom) were a band worthy of mention here. The (almost) entirely instrumental Little Brite EP (first released in 07) showed a band that could build gorgeous soundscapes [...]

We all believe things come and go in cycles and if anyone is complaining about The Mary Onettes sounding too 80s, they shoud really search their souls. Swedes have a knack of tugging at our heart strings in recent years and its no different this time with The Mary Onettes. Being under Labrador Records mean their label mates include The Legends , Sound Of Arrows & The Radio Dept. Wonderful company. In all brutal honesty, they have not exactly changed much after their [...]

Looking at the image above, you would never believe they would actually make a song proclaiming their love for a city like London, maybe a brain eating tribe , no? We have featured Crystal Fighters before and this time round, folks like In Flagranti and 80 Kidz have decided to put their touch to the impossibly catchy "I Love London". Its probably the latest staple track in most DJ sets these days, and In Flagranti's remix in particular is exceptional. [...]
I've got another song for everyone today from the Montreal-based indie-rock/pop band Islands . Switched On can be found as the opening track to the band's 3rd full-length album Vapours , released on September 22nd of this year. In an interview with Pitchfork over the summer, Islands' front-man Nicholas Thorburn (Nick Diamonds) described his mindset during the making of the album as "I needed to withdraw from overblown metaphors and filling every possible sonic space. So this record is just made up of sequenced programming, synths, drum machines, guitars, and real bass. [...]

It is said we are in an age where singles matter more than full albums. Sometimes a single track makes an artist or in other cases, it kills. We beg to differ and still prefer having full albums, which provide a basis for better judgement. Monarchy has not put out an album or even an EP, and in fact they only have a demo out. That track "Gold In The Fire" however, has created so much buzz there are even 2 remixes by Diamond Cut [...]
