The fine folks over at Austin Sound have stirred up some s*** in the music media scene with a recent blog post. Seems some were quick to jump into the fray without thinking through what they had actually read. Honesty is always the best policy, so says my mother... Pillow Queens Pack It In Tomorrow Night (And An Open Letter to Patrick Caldwell)

One music magazine that doesn't look to be in a state of near collapse (seen the latest issue of Paste? like my last date, thin and dull), death + taxes have introduced a new concept for the music magazine. The newest issue, featuring Jay Reatard on the cover, features this new technology, and one wonders if this is the wave of the future, or just a spitting breeze. Don't get me wrong, I love this magazine, it's one of current favs. I especially appreciate the fact that the fashion industry isn't slut-ted out all over the musicians throughout [...]
You know it was only a matter of time, before this was going to happen. Tipped off by hypebot.com , the full story can be found over @ Wired.com . Showdown Productions in Dayton, OH put this together for BJSR's track "Play".
There's not much more that I can say about this that isn't stated in post that I grabbed from the always informative site Hypebot.com . It's hilarious and incredibly sad. I highly recommend that you watch this video. Video: Twitter and The Death of Rock Criticism Taken from the Hypebot site: THIS IS A MUST WATCH: At the 140 Characters Conference , Rolling Stone and Idolator critic Christopher R. Weingarten shared a witty and all too true overview of how music blogs, album [...]

Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Just wanted to list a few of the more interesting reads that I have come across this week on the ol internet. Some about the business of music and some just for pure pleasure. - I'll start with [...]

Let's start off with the Beastie Boys. The boys are finishing up their 8th studio album, and its apparently shaping up to be a "pretty weird" one, says lead rapper Adam Yauch. Far from their all-instrumental album The Mix-Up, this one includes "a lot of rhyming and playing and sampling - all combined." It should be pretty cool...thanks to Entertainment Weekly for the heads-up. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs' new album was prematurely evaluated over at Stereogum , and they seem to like it. A lot. Judging from the first two singles, [...]

Last year's very good Conor Oberst solo album was not a one-time deal. He will be recording once more, non-Bright Eyes, for his next album, entitled Outer South . The album will drop May 5th. This one seems like more of a collaboration with the Mystic Valley Band he tours with, as not every song was written by Oberst himself. Personally, I'm excited. I really enjoyed Oberst's solo debut last year ("NYC, Gone, Gone" was one of my favorite songs), and I can't wait to see what he has in store for us. Click on [...]

Awesome! Just a day after many of us were very angered with Pitchfork , the site goes and redeems itself by giving Andy Samberg and The Lonely Island's album some much-deserved respect . Jessica Suarez gave the album a great review (although she bashed "Sax Man," which I loved). Here's her final, well-written paragraph: "The Lonely Island understand repetition and exaggeration. On SNL, that was most apparent in their "Dear Sister" sketch, its melodramatic, "O.C."-savaging death scene iterations getting funnier and funnier. On Incredibad it's the "boiled goose" line on "Boombox", the [...]

As Pitchfork said earlier today, this doesn't seem to be a joke. The band is called Tinted Windows and features the Smashing Pumpkins' James Iha, Cheap Trick drummer Bun E. Carlos, Taylor from Hanson, and Adam Schlesinger, Fountains of Wayne's bassist and lyrical mastermind. Cool, right? I think so. The band apparently plans to make their debut at Billboard's SXSW showcase in Austin on March 20th. Related posts New Kooks - Kids (MGMT cover) / Friday Covers (10) [...]

Come on, Pitchfork. As Seth Myers would say, really? Debate N.A.S.A.'s debut album, The Spirit of Apollo , all you want, but not even the harshest critics would go as low as a 1.6 for this PMA fave . To me, this is just another "statement review" that Pitchfork feels the need to make due to N.A.S.A.'s extremely positive buzz. But that's just my opinion- maybe writer Tom Breihan just really hated the album. Give your thoughts on Pitchfork's review in the comments. Click on for Tom Breihan's harsh final [...]

Earlier this year, The Roots were announced as Jimmy Fallon's house band for his new stint on late night television (premiering March 2nd). The move surprised fans, making them nervous that their beloved Roots were to become a cover band, or would quit their touring just to jam with Fallon. But have no fear. In an interview with Rolling Stone, drummer ?uestlove quells any concerns that fans may have: Since NBC won't pay for published music anymore, the Roots can only play original songs: "We have to write [...]

Maya Arulpragasam (better known as M.I.A.) is having an already stellar 2009. Good for her. Let's look at the things she has to look forward to in February. For one thing, she's pregnant and her baby is due February 8th! As if that weren't exciting enough, on that night (GRAMMY night), Ms. Arulpragasam is nominated for two GRAMMYs: one for Record of the Year for "Paper Planes," and another for Best Rap Song for "Swagga Like Us" - under the technicality that the song samples "Paper Planes" and she wrote "Paper Planes," and in the GRAMMY panel's eyes, [...]

Every war since WWII has inspired some sort of a cultural backlash against the powers that be. Sometimes it's a movie like W. but more often than not, these artistic expressions are protest songs. We take a look at the best protest songs of the 21st century: 10. " Let's Impeach the President " - Neil Young (April 28, 2006) This is the seventh track on Young's 2006 studio album Living with War. It starts off with a trumpet playing the first six notes of Taps, then having a chorus sing about [...]

I've always been interested in the music charts - I keep tabs on the happenings of America's music charts via Idolator's fantastic column, 100 and Single written by chart guru Chris Monalphy . But much more interesting is the Global Track Chart , which monitors the top songs in the world. This week at the GTC, Katy Perry 's "I Kissed A Girl" takes the No. 1 spot for the 7th week running. As it turns out, Katy Perry 's bi-curious summer jam caught on late in Europe and Australia. [...]

Justice are releasing their first ever DVD A Cross the Universe November 24th. The trailers seems pretty damn epic and exciting. But seriously, why do Justice think they're rockstars? They're just two little French guys... but I must admit, I do love them. Catch the teaser clip below: Click here to view the embedded video. Does anyone else think it's weird that Justice are releasing their DVD almost a year after Daft Punk released theirs? PS: The [...]
