The Thermosaurus: Look at this Dinosaur Radiator

The Thermosaurus: Look at this Dinosaur Radiator Designer Anton Schnaider and Art Lebedev has created a radiator in the shape of a T-Rex skeleton, that he's dubbed the Thermosaurus . The concept works just like any other radiator. It's made of cast iron and though it strikes me as not practical, the team behind it says, "the item is highly efficient and energy-savvy, thanks to its complex structure that includes a skull, spine, ribs, legs, and tail bones" used as the heating mechanism. If you had the interior space and a sense of whimsy, this would be amazing. [via [...]

The Most Beautiful and Serene Starbucks in the World

The Most Beautiful and Serene Starbucks in the World Happens to be in Fukuoka Perfecture, on the street leading straight to a shrine called Dazaifu Tenmagu . The coffee shop, which looks nothing like any other Starbucks on the planet, was designed by world-renowned architect  Kengo Kuma  to resemble the natural surroundings of the Shinto shrine. It makes me wish Starbucks would allow more locations to reflect their spirit and history, while still maintaining that quintessential Starbuck-y-ness. [via DesignTaxi ]

The Home of Dieter Rams

The Home of Dieter Rams Some great shots from inside the home of industrial design icon Dieter Rams. It's nice to know that those museum shots of Braun products I always see are actually in use somewhere. There's also this house full of Rams-designed Vistsoe shelving. Interior Design

Interior Design Interior Design is the fifteenth album by Sparks being released in 1988. Once again another album from the Mael geniuses that most folks have never heard and didn't do anything commercially. Two tracks did make it to the Billboard Hot Dance Music chart. The vinyl pressing only had 10 tracks and CD versions of the album included a number of bonus tracks including three versions of the LPs final track "Madonna", a remix of "So Important" and the short instrumental "The Big Brass Ring". Long out of [...]

Architecture & Interior Design cocktail party

A few more photos from the design and architecture event we dj-ed last week.

San Francisco Carr Apartment

Architect Craig Steely has done an outstanding job renovating this high-rise loft apartment/penthouse. His inspiration came from mood of 702s space rock and ambient music artists such as Cluster, Brian Eno and Michael Rother. This is really evident in the floor to ceiling ambient light installation on one side of the main living area. The light wall displays videos that are slowed down and each pixel is paired to a 2 inch LED behind the wall. This is what creates the large 8-bit-like pattern. Not only is this light wall really great, but the view is quite possibly [...]

Old Barn Turned Into Modern Farmhouse

Old Barn Turned Into Modern Farmhouse If one were to ask Lady Oyster and I what type of living abode perfectly meshes out design aesthetics, this project by Shed , where they converted an old barn into a modern farmhouse , is pretty much it. Each space was developed around a minimal palette of materials and color, with extensive re-use of existing barn materials. Some of these materials included the re-use of the original barn siding for interior paneling, re-milling of salvaged floor joists for stair material, trim and countertops. In a very real way, the [...]

The TRON Suite

The TRON Suite At first I wasn't a TRON fan, but it has definitely grown on me. After seeing this TRON Suite at the world-famous Swedish Icehotel in Jukkasjärvi, I might have to watch the movie. The designers of this suite, Ben Rousseau and Ian Douglas-Jones, utilizing ultra-low energy lights that appear to be frozen in or behind the ice—brilliant! The whole thing reminds me of a nightclub. In fact I wouldn't be surprised to see a night club made of ice pop up next door to the hotel sometime soon. What are your thoughts on this— would [...]

East Village Studio

East Village Studio Some of the most interesting homes aren't those that are colossal. Take this East Village Studio in New York City for example. Sure its small apartment living but its also small, clean and minimal while having a warm, welcoming vibe. What more would you want in apartment—besides an Eames chair. I'm not sure about hiding my clothes in the stairs but at the point of creating a more spacious home it works. Is it just me or does this seem like an apartment that would be great for someone who's a fan of Dieter Rams? [...]

Michaels/Sisson Residence

Michaels/Sisson Residence Miller/Hull designed this house for a young couple that had a high interest in modern architecture. The completed house fits perfectly with the Pacific Northwest theme and is situated in the woods of Mercer Island near Seattle. Personally it's one of my favorites in the Pacific Northwest. The ratio of wood to metal beams/siding seems nicely balanced, especially on large deck. Permalink | Comment On This Post | Tweet This Post | Add to del.icio.us | Stumbleupon [...]
