A couple of weeks ago, the narco-folk singer Marissa Nadler posted a wordless, a capella cover of the theme from the HBO show Game Of Thrones that she'd recorded. And today, the two non-singing members of the Scottish synthpop trio Chvrches have done their own cover of the theme music as an apparent studio lark, turning it into chilly keyboard music, the sort of thing that could've shown up on the War Games score. Given the amount of press that Jessie Ware has garnered over the past few months, it seems kind of insane that her breakthrough debut album, Devotion , is only just now seeing a U.S release. When the album does appear (on April 16th) it will arrive with two new tracks (a "Wildest Moments" remix and a new track called "Imagine It Was Us") and a brief run of U.S. tour dates. Justin Vernon is no stranger to the side project. In 2009, he released Unmap , an album with fellow-Wisconsinites Collection Of Colonies Of Bees, as Volcano Choir . It was not too far a departure from his work as Bon Iver, but was padded with COCOB's electronic flairs. With the Shouting Matches , Vernon reunites his old blues-rock duo with Brian Moen (Peter Wolf Crier) and an assist from Phil Cook, to release full-length Grownass Man . The producer and composer Adrian Younge put together the excellent fake-vintage blaxploitation score for Black Dynamite and, earlier this year, recorded an album with Delfonics singer William Hart. And for his latest trick, he's linked with Wu-Tang legend Ghostface Killah to record Twelve Reasons To Die , a new rap opera with a plotline about a black mobster who becomes an avenging ghost superhero. Ghost recorded the album with Younge's live band Venice Dawn, and the result is some beautifully lux psychedelic soul, a nice bed for Ghost's absurdist storytelling. But the first two track we've heard from his new album Ghost On Ghost , " Lovers' Revolution " and " Grace For Saints And Ramblers ," are loose and jazzy things. Three years ago, the great Chicago soul and gospel legend Mavis Staples released You Are Not Alone , the comeback album that Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy produced for her. In a couple of months, she'll follow that up with her new LP One True Vine , another full-length Tweedy collaboration. (I'm going way out on a limb and guessing that the title has nothing to do with Twitter looping-video apps.) NYC duo MS MR knocked weird out of the park for this video for "Hurricane." Heavy petting - if you're at work right now, I don't necessarily recommend you hit play - begets a cascade of pastel spew, one girl essentially bathes in heart-shaped sequins, and singer Lizzy Plapinger is painted bright blue, but it's her photo-print swimsuit that really steals the show, in that it looks like she does in fact have a face on her stomach.
