Kilo Kish - K+ Self-released: 2013 What it means to be a “good rapper” isn’t as clear as anyone might think, but I don’t believe that many people would compliment Kilo Kish as an emcee regardless of what segment of the rap world they hail from. To put it simply, she uses the same flow for the entirety of her new mixtape K+ and that flow is slow, plodding, and often imprecise. At times it seems obtuse on purpose, at other times it just sounds unpolished. Her characteristic vocal lilt works [...]

The Internet's (OFWGKTA's Syd the Kyd & Matt Martians) sultry remix of Mikky Ekko's great "Pull Me Down" from last year is so good, it warrants a lifting of b3sci's long standing Odd Future Embargo. Sade just called (yeah's she's got our number, deal with it.) and said this remix is too sexy even for her. Get familiar below. The Internet ( Twitter ) Rating 8.4

Smithsonian Magazine : No one knows for sure how many individual pages are on the web, but right now, it’s estimated that there are more than 14 billion . Recently, though, Hungarian physicist Albert-László Barabási discovered something surprising about this massive number: Like actors in Hollywood connected by Kevin Bacon , from every single one of these pages you can navigate to any other in 19 clicks or less. Barabási’s findings, published yesterday in Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society , involved a simulated model of the web that he [...]
Remember the heady days in the past when we could barely get through a week without Akon dry-humping children on stage, or throwing children off stage, or upsetting Sri Lanka. He's been quiet for a while, though. Okay, we've been ignoring him for a while. In fact - along with most of the world - we'd missed him attempting to launch a social networking site. It was going to be called Fantrace, and it was going to allow "fans" to interact with "celebrities". Oddly, perhaps because that's what all social networks (apart [...]

Kilo Kish is a relatively new artist who's worked with Odd Future subsidiaries like The Internet and Jet Age of Tomorrow , and has even appeared on tracks with Childish Gambino . Kish raps with the same syrupy restraint as Kitty Pryde while trying to sound casually heady. Her latest mixtape, K+ , is wrought with guest appearances and producers, which has garnered tons of attention. If you're [...]
Give the Drummer Some's Favorite Downloads from the MP3 Blogosphere I received a comment during my latest radio show asking if I was going to play any music by Butch Morris. Morris, the legendary composer, cornetist and group-improvisation innovator had recently died and the listener was, understandably, asking if I was going to be paying tribute. The truth is I have mixed feelings about producing "remembrance" broadcasts. Doing so is a perfectly reasonable thing to do (no station produces better memorial programming than WKCR in New York), [...]

If producers like Clams Casino and The Weekend are impressed, then you know you must be facing a talented artist. That would be the story of Mikky Ekko . He’s one of music’s newbies, earning his first hit with Rihanna on their duet titled “Stay” from her latest album. Ekko just released his own single “Pull me Down” which is produced by Clams Casino. The ready-for-radio pop/r&b/rock tune plays it safe in generality, and you can watch a video for it below. However, if you’d like to hear an [...]
