When I was a kid, growing up in a house with Cat Stevens, Neil Diamond, and Simon and Garfunkel, the first time I ever heard Kiss's "Detroit Rock City," it was a moment of musical epiphany. It was just so vicious, aggressive and mean. It changed the way I listened to music. I've had a few minor epiphany's since then, when you come across a band that just brings something new and revolutionary to your ears. What have been your musical epiphany moments? I remember the first time I heard [...]

I was seven years old in 1964. The British Invasion had just begun and so had my interest in rock music. Beatles , Rolling Stones , Who and Kinks filled the new stereo FM and monaural AM radio airwaves with UK bands playing blues and rock 'n roll "all day and all of the night." The shows were interspersed with reports of draft lottery number call ups and troop casualty totals from the Vietnam war. [...]

Modern Day Moonshine was one of the bands that made us put our money where our mouths are. After hearing their self-titled EP, Modern Day Moonshine , we were so impressed with their laid back, yet passionate take on an Allman Brothers mixed with Crosby, Stills, Nash, meets Neil Young, crossed with The Meters vibe, that we just had to go ahead and make them one of the first acts signed to the nascent Ripple Music Label. With a dynamite new album coming later this year, we couldn't miss out on the chance to have the gents, [...]

One listen. That's all it took to infect me with the alt-grungy singer songwriter treat that was PJ Bond's last album, You Didn't Know I was Alphabetical . Riding the crest of some amazing singer-songwriters that we've reviewed here at the Ripple recently like Matt Pond and Cory Case , PJ Bond crafted an album that literally defined the singer/songwriter genre. At times sassy and poppy, at others melancholic and sparse, You Didn't Know I was Alphabetical never failed to captivate. When I was a kid, [...]

Sometimes you hear a song that just hits that right note in your soul. Moves you to a place that you've been afraid to go to, or reluctant to remember. That's the power of a songwriter. The ability to make you feel, remember, experience something from deep inside. Little wonder then that when we learned that award-winning songwriter, Kevin Beadles was releasing a new album of beautiful, affecting rootsy americana, we jumped at the chance to have him come join us on the red leather interview couch and lend his thoughts on to what makes a [...]

The Second Academy – The Grave From Out of Which We Briefly Wander I already professed my love of Eric Balaban and his amalgam of garage punk, The Beautiful Mothers , but you know what, the cat is so talented that one band wasn't enough for him. Enter The Second Acadey and their spinning translucent green vinyl ode to lo-fi experim-punk, The Grave From Out of Which We Briefly Wander . Intentionally not as realized as The Beautiful Mothers , The Second Academy attack each composition as [...]

Do Italians do it better? When it comes to psychedelic/experimental metal, the answer is a loud "Si!" Ufomammut recently released their 5 th album entitled Eve and it's a mind bending mix of Pink Floyd at Pompeii trippiness and Black Sabbath heaviosity. Bassist/vocalist Urlo and guitarist Poia were nice enough to answer some questions for us here at the Ripple Effect. Even though their music is deadly serious, these guys have a great sense of humor. Pour yourself a nice glass of grappa and read on. Ciao! [...]

Blissed out, T-Rex inspired, psychedelic pop. That's what The Dolly Rocker Movement brings to the table and that's what caught us by the Ripple ears and spun us around like a heady case of vertigo. Joining us today on the red leather interview couch is head Dolly, Daniel Darling to open up our minds to what makes The Dolly Rocker Movement tick. When I was a kid, growing up in a house with Cat Stevens, Neil Diamond, and Simon and Garfunkel, the first time I ever heard Kiss's "Detroit Rock City," it [...]

You can't imagine how many press releases we receive at the Ripple with requests for us to post a link to a free download of a new single. In truth, if we attempted to post all these, we'd have no room left for any reviews. So usually, we delete them and wait for the full albums to review. Not today. I was so impressed with the new single from the bi-coastal sensation, Chief that I just had to get this song up for your consumption. Though Evan Koga, Mike Moonves and [...]
Alice Cooper and Iggy Pop are usually credited for helping to kill off the peace and love Woodstock hippy rainbow vibe in 1970. Listening to this double live muther of Miles Davis unleashing his electric band on a bunch of hippies at the Fillmore East waiting to see Steve Miller and Neil Young , you could say that Miles did his part, too. Bill Graham did everyone a favor when he was running the Fillmores in NYC and San Francisco by putting together some inspired bills. King Crimson [...]

A special little treat for all you waveriders. All-star rock super group Terrible Things featuring Fred Mascherino ( Taking Back Sunday ), Josh Eppard ( Coheed & Cambria ), and Andy Jackson ( Hot Rod Circuit ) have just released their debut single "Revolution" yesterday via iTunes & ShockHound, and they've asked the Ripple to make the song available in full-stream on our site. Always being a fan of free, legal music, we couldn't resist. The full-length debut is due out late summer on Universal Motown. The album's concept is about the arson [...]

Athens, Ohio's blackened thrash masters, SKELETONWITCH have a busy summer lined up, as they've been tapped for Ozzfest, as well as a Canadian tour with HIGH ON FIRE. The band will be appearing on the second stage at Ozzfest along with former tour partners GOATWHORE and SAVIOURS and other acts including DEVILDRIVER, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY and KINGDOM OF SORROW. The band is currently several weeks into a tour with CANNIBAL CORPSE, which made a stop at the annual New England Metal and Hardcore Fest in Worcester, MA. That tour wraps up on the 15th in Tampa, FL. [...]

Neither of these albums are new. One of the bands doesn't even exist anymore. But both came in with a recent shipment of stuff from our good friend over at Big Neck Records, home of one of my favorite garage oufits of all time, Seger Liberation Army . Needless to say, I tore into these with abandon. And I'm still tearing . . . The Burndowns – S/T An absolute frenetic, frantic, and fantastic [...]

In recent months, Fen have achieved the closest thing to the induction into the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame that we have to offer here at The Ripple Effect. The bands 2006 release, entitled Congenital Fixation , has found permanent residence within the hallowed confines of the Pope's Mobile and we could think of no other band that we'd rather spend this particular Sunday morning with. Join us as we delve into the inner workings of the madcap mindset of the music world's most intriguing listen! [...]

With a new album coming soon, the inagural album for our very own label, Ripple Music, we couldn't pass up the chance to have the JPT gents come on by the office and chat with us about their amazing music that has made them legends. Joining us for some afternoon sun, a few cool ones, and some great conversation about the acid guitar rock that turns our heads, were guitar legend Terry Swope and bassist extraordinare, Paul Grigsby. What have been your musical epiphany moments? Paul: The first time I [...]

Some people go with no introduction. I've been a fan of Paul Collins Beat since the album first came out in high school. It was a staple on my turntable through college, and it's never left. Needless to say, I had to fan myself like an excited schoolgirl about to meet the cast of Twilight, when Paul Collins stopped by, plopped himself on the red leather interview couch and talked a spell. When I was a kid, [...]

stWhen it comes to mid-tempo heavy rock, Stone Axe are the most dedicated muthas on the planet right now. Too old and unfashionable to be considered "retro," Stone Axe eat, shit and breathe the full gamut of classic rock from the late 1960's through the early 1970's. Stone Axe II picks up where 2009's full length debut left off but also offers quite a few surprises. The first album was heavy on British style blues rock of bands like Free, Led Zeppelin, Cream, Fleetwood Mac ( Peter Green era, only), [...]

Raw, rough, slightly psychedelic and infinitely catchy. That pretty much sums up our reaction to the latest Vinyl Stitches tracks that Postman Sal slumped into the Ripple Office. Grabbing a beer and joining us today on the red leather interview couch, is Vinny From the Vinyl Stitches! When I was a kid, growing up in a house with Cat Stevens, Neil Diamond, and Simon and Garfunkel, the first time I ever heard Kiss's "DetroitRock City," it was a moment of musical epiphany. It was just sovicious, aggressive and mean. It changed the [...]

JPT Scare Band - Rumdum Daddy As I write this, an Icelandic volcano has grounded jet liners over a good portion of the world. In my opinion, if it wasn't the volcano putting a stop to air traffic, it would've been this eruptive new disc by the legendary JPT Scare Band . And I don't toss out that metaphor frivolously. From the first time I heard these Acid Rock pioneers plying their distinctly original blend of fuming hot jams and molten acid excursions, a picture of a spewing volcano was the [...]

Everyone in a while something comes along that is just too cool for words. That's the way we felt here at the Ripple Office when we were asked to be a part of this truly inventive project. Toss in the fact that it gives us another opportunity to get some free (legal) music into the hands of you waveriders, and we were chomping at the bit.. Beginning today, April 19th, and spanning through May 4th, 10 Independent Music Blogs will be giving away each and every song from the upcoming Self-Titled 12" LP [...]
