Dec 26th the interview show with Skrillex Jan 2nd the interview show with Leif Vollebekk Jan 9th the interview show with Nü Sensae [...]
Tyrow James is a fellow Surrey boy, so when he emailed me about his new record The Brass Knuckles Effect , I knew I had to have him on the show. Tyrow likes to make tracks that are a dangerous mix of Beastie Boys and Dayglo Abortions . He tells me The Brass Knuckles Effect is a break up record and a document of the last hellish year of his life. No matter what you think about rap rock or hip hop break up records, Tyrow James [...]

When young Julia (above) first came to North America from her homeland (Romania), all she wanted to do was sing in a band. She sang in a pretty successful band in her homeland, so she thought she could just continue her music here. That should be pretty easy right? All she would need to do is find three or four like-minded people who could play some instruments... Well, it was not as easy as she expected. And this was only the beginning of the journey for Julia and her band Me TalkPretty . [...]

If you ask the guys in the Calgary-based band Raleigh what their name is about, you might get a few different answers: the bike Brand, the city in North Carolina, or Sir Walter, to name a few. They call themselves a "prolk" band (prolk = progressive + folk) and they have an undeniable cool girl-guy duo vocal thing going on over songs that flourish like slow moving waves. This week, I get into a little "he said, she said" when I ask the band's core Clea (holding the sign) and Brock (in [...]

Toronto-based Bonjay are an interesting duo. Talented singer Alana Stuart almost signed a big record deal, until she found out they wanted to make her over into " Donna Boogie ." Instead, she found DJ Ian "Pho" Swain at a party and Bonjay was born. Bonjay 's music starts at dancehall, but veers off somewhere different. They are both strongly committed to creating something new. You have to respect that. the interview show with Bonjay Bonjay "Creepin'" [...]

You may know local beatmaker Tarun Nayar from his very popular touring group Delhi 2 Dublin or from Beats Without Borders . This year, Tarun released a solo album 22º of Beatitude . Like all his projects, the record is a fusion of more mainstream beats and music from Eastern cultures. But the record also serves as a travelogue of sorts, compiling of all the sounds Tarun has collected from over 10 years of traveling around Asia. Join us this week as we talk about Tarun's fantastic journeys. [...]
Imagine yourself trapped in traffic on your way down the west coast. That's when I caught Katie Stelmanis , the frontwoman of Austra . Katie and her crew have made one of the best electronic albums for the year with Feel it Break . This week, I get Katie to talk about The Knife comparison, her show choir childhood, sorcery and critics calling the record " sleazy new wave ." Hey, she was trapped in her car, I could pretty much get [...]

If I had to describe Kim Churchill to a stranger, I would classify him as an extremely talented surfer singer-songwriter, like a young Jack Johnson or Xavier Rudd . Kim would probably not like the last part. During our chat, he bristled at the "surfer singer-songwriter" tag. His twitter tag line is "on tour somewhere" and he is one of those artists who tour like a mofo. And when he is not touring, he is busking, testing out new songs for street reaction. Kim has been [...]

It has been a great year for Mother Mother . Their song "The Stand" from their latest record Eureka has caught a lot of attention. And this band deserves more attention. They are a must listen for any fan of Metric . When I reached Ryan from Mother Mother , he was doing the dishes at his father's house on Quadra Island. Ryan was enjoying a bit of down time. I am glad he was relaxed because I could ask him questions like " What [...]

This month, the interview show attended the Vancouver International Film Festival and chatted with some of the brilliant minds behind some of the best shows on TV: Alexandra Cunningham started on HBO's Rome and spent some time on ABC's Desperate Housewives and now is the head writer on NBC's Prime Suspect ; Aaron Zelman started on Law & Order then moved to Damages and now heads up AMC's The Killing . We also chat with 3 [...]

This interview was one of the most crazy ones I've done recently. Deep into a grueling tour, Skrillex did not want to do any more interviews. He was getting burned out from press (in our chat he tells me why), but somehow he got convinced to meet. We chatted in the basement of Celebrities nightclub, since Skrillex would only do the interview in the club. If you listen closely, you can hear the beats from upstairs and the taps of feet on [...]

12th Planet is often called the American ambassador of Dub Step. And in this interview, I make him live up to his name. This interview is a great starting point for people who want to know the basics of dub step and drum and bass. For now, 12th Planet may not be as big as some of the other dub step producers in the game, simply because he has been slow to put out his own material. Instead he has been content to make tracks with almost all of the players in dub step. He [...]

Cut Copy are one of those bands that straddles the indie rock and DJ world. The remixes of their songs are sometimes as popular as their originals-especially when they get names like Mylo , Moulinex , Holy Ghost , Boys Noize and others to mess with their tracks. I caught Cut Copy lead Dan Whitford at the soundcheck for their Miami show. Cut Copy are here in Vancouver for a sold out show Friday and the good news is there is a second [...]

One rainy day, I spoke with Nü Sensae core Daniel and Andrea outside the Biltmore in their tour van while BFF band White Lung was doing soundcheck. Sometimes, you can hear WL frontwoman Mish screeching in the background-dang, that lady is loud! It has been a big year for these young punks, Nü Sensae . On top of touring nonstop, these to have been signed to Suicide Squeeze Records and Daniel's BF Seth Bogard (from Hunx and His Punx ) told Vanoucver [...]

July 4th the interview show with Little Dragon July 11th the interview show with Winnipeg's Boats! (My favorite Canadian band right now!) July 18th the interview show with Chew Fu [...]
Spending time with a guy like Eamon McGrath is a bit of a mindfuck. This kid is only 22, but has put out that many records already. He has toured the coutnry countless times and he has the colorful party-binge stories you would expect from a 50-year-old roadie going thru AA's 12-Steps. Eamon's record Peacemaker is his attempt to make amends for his past mistakes and he was amazingly candid about the life of an up-and-coming Candian indie singer songwriter during our chat. [...]
Tracking down Ryder (centre below) from Mohawk Lodge is no easy task. The guy is constantly touring, recording, or doing work for his label White Whale Records . The first time I caught him, he was in the bathroom. (And no he was not taking a dump, he was recording in there.) The second time, he was about to get on stage in Montreal. Third time is always a charm. This time, I caught him on his bike, heading to meet [...]
This week, we go from crazy to insane ! Not only do I have industry expert Justin on the show to talk about his new blog, Spaceship For Sale , but I decide to test his knowledge of the industry by getting three local bands to ask him questions! So this week, we've also got Tristan from DBL Dragon , Rob from Eeek! and Kyle from Vinyl Theory [...]
