Rock band remixes are a dubious musical black spot. A tendency for remix albums to become nothing more than final hour DJ fodder - something to get a worse-for-wear crowd turning to each other and going 'hey, that's Bloc Party ' and dancing a little bit harder – can be a major turn off. Here comes this variable, scrappy new remix of Bloc Party 's Intimacy track "Ares" that only the Hungarian duo Headshotboyz could do. It seems a little unfinished to us, but maybe that's the point really. Either way, you can't quite classify the sound/genre/feel of it, it just sort of begins with a sleepy meandering with slightly warping vocals and then ramps up, slams you in the face, backpedals, and pretty much does the whole sequence again. Much of my review of the frustratingly middling Intimacy was based around the observation that the band had a precocious desire to expand their sound that wasn't matched by their ability, that they were an underachiever's Radiohead grasping for a Kid A, but coming up Kid B (fnar fnar -that was an awful pun).
