With the sheer amount of music uploaded onto the internet every single day, it's crucially important not to underestimate the affect that visual elements can have on whether deciding someone takes a chance with listening to your music or not. The stunning artwork provided by Peaceful Circles, for each of their five tracks so far, alongside another for the EP itself, was certainly the deal breaker when it came to pressing play, or ignoring it completely. Hailing from Paris, Peaceful Circles have little to information available online so far, barring a five track EP, currently titled [...]

Raleigh Ritchie is from somewhere in Britain. That's not me being lazy; there simply isn't much about this vocalist online. With a Facebook page that was set up just this month, it's safe to say that Raleigh Ritchie is new on the music scene. You wouldn't think that, though, after hearing his first single, "A Moor." It's a beautifully constructed modern R&B love song in which Ritchie simply wants to run away with the apple of his eye and "move to the suburbs where grass grows, away from the stubborn city assholes." The tune is packed with high-pitched gleeful "yeahuh" samples, [...]

Tucked in behind West London's Portobello Road sits Sarm Studios airy confines, and on the basement couch sits 20-year-old South Londoner (Penge raised if you must know, not Brixton) Joel Compass. We've been told this is his first ever interview, but if he was at all nervous, his incredibly relaxed nature is the perfect disguise. The Black Butter signed artist/producer first came to our attention earlier this year with 'Back To Me': a gritty yet slick R&B infused number whose falsetto vocals and thumping beats were accompanied by a heart stopping, glitchy video. With his debut EP [...]
When you ask bands why the make music-what's the motivation behind your band?-the last thing you'd expect to hear is that they're trying to raise $700, 000 to "purchase a functioning airship for a music festival that will take place over Lake Ontario". Then again, the band's name, Blimp Rock , should have been a dead giveaway. Will they ever get their airship? Will there ever be a show high above the choppy waters of the Great Lakes (or at least one)? Who cares? Robyn Letson (from Sweet Home Wreckers), Claire Whitehead (of Forest City Lovers, The Crybreak), Jess [...]
UK producer, Cinnamon Chasers has been influenced by the sounds of the 70s since he was just a twinkle in his mother's eye. His father, Dave Davies, was a founding member of the The Kinks and although he hasn't decided to take the rockstar route (yet?) he possesses an undeniable understanding of the disco music from that era. Here's the kicker though. He's also managed to combine just about every possible disco-related sub-genre of music into his own unique fusion of "alternative electronic". To call him a nu-disco artist would be vastly understating what the man is capable [...]

Introducing | Cloud by Lee Adcock Hopefully, if you’ve been following GFP lately, you caught that excellent Audio Antihero compilation last week ( here it is , if you missed it.) If you haven’t – well, shame on you, but at least sample track #3, ' A Song of What Stays . It’s a beautiful, beautiful little tune, and quite possibly one of the loveliest tracks on the comp: a majestic yet humble piano plays with [...]
I first heard about .CULT after 16-year-old producer prodigy XXYYXX shared a track he'd produced for one of the group's members FACES last year. Since then I've been following them with interest, their heady, hazy and lazy flow standing out in a sea of aspiring rap stars. Now following the release of their debut album, The Three Beggars , we're proud to premier the video for Naughty by Nature featuring Canadian-American hip-hopper Noah23, better known for his work with Buck 65, Jim Guthrie and Cadence Weapon. Check out the video for [...]

It's not everyday you come across a Kenyan Swedish soul pop singer, but you'll find her in the form of Beldina Malaika . A few years back, listening to Childish Gambino 's EP , I was struck by the backing vocals on "Not Going Back". A few Google searches let me know they were from somebody called Beldina Malaika , and off to her YouTube video channel I went to start perusing her various uploads. Her videos were a mix of live recordings, studio sessions, acoustic radio gigs, new material and covers, and I was [...]

Sitting outside of The Green Door Store in Brighton, D E N A has just arrived in the seaside town ahead of her performance at the Great Escape Festival. Looking around as she sips on a coffee, the Berlin based musician and vocalist - real name Denitza Todorova - is relaxed as she chats about the evening's festivities, as well as a forthcoming performance at Glastonbury and the release of her brand new single 'Thin Rope' via London imprint POP unLTD . It's a busy time [...]

Ever since Foals decided to become a U2 cover band, there's been an opening in my heart for intelligent, quirky math-pop, and Genoa's DOCKS may well be the ones to fill the gaping hole. Having only formed earlier this year, the quartet comprised of Andre, Carlo, Matte and Wil, bear a striking sonic resemblance to the tracks that first made a name for Foals (Hummer, Cassius etc.), with their jerky guitar lines and percussion driven builds. It's not often that Italian acts feature on CitR, and it's even less frequent for me to be so excited [...]

Fresh out the blocks, Brooklyn's Ang Low backed by production duo Dan Drohan and Jeff Fettig, has just dropped his debut track, the stunning Life Goes Down. So it fits rather snuggly into the R&B / indie crossover, alongside the likes of Bipolar Sunshine and The Neighbourhood, with it's clean, precise production and slick vocal sectionsfa, but that's by no means a fault. With this, Ang Low's first release, it's ambitious and certainly crying out with commercial intentions, whilst remaining a touching love song at its silky core. Check out Life Goes Down below, and [...]

Here's a little lo-fi island music (lo-fisland?) to match the tropical torrent we've been beset with here in the district . Noble Savage looks to be an offshoot project conceived amidst the indefinite hiatus of indie rock ensemble Animal Astronauts , masterminded by Trevor Lang, who's setting sail on his maiden voyage to the land of the jangly melodies and pitter-pattery hand drumming. Throw in some Wilsonesque vocal multi-tracking, and it's breezy but compelling first single, ho! Is conceptual island music going to be for this summer what conceptual surf rock was a few years [...]

Every time we reach an even number for our Sundaze series, it's always a good time to reflect on what we've achieved so far. What is to come in the very new future and the great music we've shared with you. I do hope you're enjoying the stuff as much as we do... Let us know in the comment section below. We've got another great artwork by Paul Grelet who's work has been consistant and right up there with our expectations. So thanks again buddy for the stunning pieces you deliver week in, week out ! Whole Lotta Street-Cred' coming [...]

Facebook / evileyes.bandcamp.com I can't work out if San Francisco's Evil Eyes are a full band or a duo, I'll go with the latter because it's the complimenting boy / girl vocals that initially caught my attention amongst the spidery guitars of their latest release "Keep Your Mind On Me", a digital single released last year and available on their Bandcamp now... The single comes ahead of an album due later this summer on creeps along with sinister psychedelic swirls and twanging guitars crossing over genres perfectly as [...]

Facebook / kidwavemusic.com When you come back from The Great Escape you always later discover bands and think "Oh, I wish I'd discovered this lot a bit earlier, this is bloody excellent". This is the first time that's happened to me (so far) this year... Kid Wave are a London based quartet whose two tracks, available for free download via Bandcamp were actually released last year but lets not worry about my overdue discovery... You'll not hear too many better songs to introduce you than "All I [...]

20-something Minnesota born Collin Ward, better known on the dream-pop scene as Observer Drift , and creator of bedroom-recorded shoegaze gem ‘Corridors’, and recently released EP ‘Fjords’, is a multi-talented singer/songwriter and producer whose lo-fi, electronic beats and gritty, synth-driven grooves are causing quite a cosmic stir. Observer Drift’s brand of pensive and wistful reverb-rammed, synth-stylings was first introduced to us in 2012 in the form of self-recorded debut LP ‘Corridors’. This corker of a debut, created in quite the DIY fashion, exposes not only Ward’s penchant for hazy electronica and meditative lyricism, but his unique [...]

No Facebook, no website, no Twitter, no Soundcloud, no paper trail whatsoever in fact. Brooklyn (obviously) outfit The Yum Dee Days may have no backstory or indeed any information surrounding the group whatsoever, but they've managed to craft one of the finest debut LP's of the year thus far. Make It Rain is a very Beach Boys / The Beatles 602s style throwback; ten tracks of summery, surf pop, it's hard to imagine this not getting a label release. There's the lullaby swing of The Future Is A Drag , complete [...]

Facebook After a couple of typically fuzzy posts comes something that's brought me to my knees, so devastatingly beautiful is the debut EP of Alice Boman , a singer/songwriter from Malmo. "Waiting" was the track that did it to me, a noticeably home recorded sound (you can literally hear the cassette tape hiss) only adds to the wholly emotive and absorbing journey with Alice's hushed whispers and delicate piano sparkles creating a sound that is unbearably sad yet overwhelmingly gorgeous and absorbing. The track is taken from Alice's debut EP "Skisser" [...]

Singing songs of a tormented past beyond her 21 years, Annie Eve has a debut EP this week on the ever lovely Young & Lost . There is soft desperation in her voice, that seems to be her outlet to stop the world swallowing her whole, as she intertwines heart-one-your-sleeve blues, and something much more personal and introverted. At her best on the stripped back Hunters, she is both magical and manic. [BUY] Annie Eve - Annie Eve EP from iTunes or AmazonMP3 [...]

British based singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist Marc Rigelsford ( Magic Arm ) gives new meaning to the phrase “work from home.” Rigelsford recently released his psychedelic sophomore LP, Images Rolling , which like his first album was recorded completely in the comfort of his bedroom. Unlike his first effort, however, Images Rolling departs from Magic Arm’s hallmark electronic sound and makes abundant use of live instrumentation. “Warning Signs,” the third track off Images Rolling is exemplary of this transition. Utilizing live piano, strings, [...]
