One of the most consistent sources of interesting music and in depth commentary Pelski provides what I never knew I was looking for. While sometimes his selections don't resonate with me there are times, such as my discovery of "Lungisani" by Milt Mortez, where something I never know I wanted has become something I feel I needed. Milt Mortez - Lungisani.mp3 Discodust is adictive, I just want to set down with it on a mirror staring back, block one nostrile and let go. Discodust [...]

(Click for Facebook Event) I've partnered with Cody LeKush, my co-author for the Top Shows of 2009 Series , to put together a very special Valentines Day Party featuring some very special guests. LRG is an experimental live bass music group from Toronto, filled with precision and passion expect to be blown away. Mr. Charlton and DJ Mowgli (Patrick Laughton) have partnered up to create Bourgeois Bass, a duo with so much taste. With Salacious Sound favourites Zeds Dead (They won every competition they've entered on the site) headlining the night, its bound to get crazy. Howver, [...]
A friend, David Jorgensen, posted this awesome little bideo on my wall. It is set to Autoerotique's Gladiotr. Here is the remix by Torro Torro that Felix Cartal decided was worthy of being dropped in his set at Montreal'sIigloofest. Autoerotique - Gladiator (Torro Torro Remix).mp3 No tags for this post.

Wow. Take a listen yourself, and you'll agree that's 'nuff said'. The production on this track is utterly ridiculous, and even this low quality encoded version has me hyped up right now. This track has this bittersweet thing going on that would sound amazing on a big system. Several of our writers have written about this very talented artist before, so make sure to check out the related posts below if you like this shit. I can't freaking wait to see this guy in March.. The Social is going to be TOTALLY rammed. Wolfgang [...]

John Roman started getting a lot of attention for his grinding chainsaws just under a year ago. Since then, he has grown and transitioned as a producer. Currently working on a deeper sound, he is taking his production to the next level. Not only has he received a ton of praise from opinionated little bloggers such as myself, but he has even got love from big fish such as Brodinksi ( Who will be in Toronto 2 weeks from now ). He is going to drop an exclusive mixtape of Remixes, Edits and Originals and join the Salacious blogging community! [...]

we're dancing . Classic grooves that will set your shoes on fire, souls alight; Ibiza sounds that will always remain on the top of the list. Indeed perhaps a dip into the past, but these sounds will never die. Fond memories of those summer nights, dance, dance, dancing away. One hand raised, feeling the beat, rising heat... the other trying not to spill your brew. Enjoy these tunes! Groove [...]

or a new Toronto genre as defined by Splattermonkey. Back in the early 90's there were a whole whack of DJ's and producers making new forms of dance and club music based on famous drum breaks from funk and soul songs from the 60's and 70's. The Winstons' 1968 single "Color Him Father" backed by the super fast and funky "Amen Brother" contained a five second drum break that laid the foundation for Jungle music which evolved into Drum and Bass. James Brown's "The Funky Drummer", the James Brown Produced [...]

Possibly the first Canadian artist to really break into Hip Hop's mainstream culture on such a large scale without ever having released an album. Drake is Diddy for the 21st Century. As he continues to become more and more ubiquitous in every rappers video from Cudi to Weezy, we should all expect his forthecoming album to skyrocket to the top of popular music charts. This young Canadian cat is leading a movement that I feel is bringing mainstream Hip Hop back for those who ran away from the rise of the south. Artists like him and Kid Cudi have made [...]
Just came across this little gem and felt compelled to post it. Fear of Tigers is a guy from London who DJs and Produces, and from the looks of it he has a bunch more music that you can pick up for free on his facebook fan page. Head over and show him some love if you like the track. I came up immersed in hip hop. I harboured, and still do, a strong bias against frivolous forms of rap music. For this reason I walked away from the genre, all together, almost a decade ago. In my experience, two Toronto MCs have been most dedicated to their cause, and would never imagine walking away. Ian Kamau and Mindbender. http://www.myspace.com/iankama u Ian Kamau is a poet, a servant of the community, and sworn humanist. His words speak of personal struggle, systemic weaknesses, and of hope, vision, beauty. [...]

ISIS. That says it all. This Nigerian native, who calls Toronto her home, is a natural born performer; a singer, songwriter, composer who shifted onto the radar, and into our hearts with Thunderheist, an "I'm the rapper, he's the DJ" duo with Public Transit Recordings' own GrahmZilla. Let's just call it a coming of age story. ISIS has now teamed up with Alixander III (of Azari & III) to produce a solo album of epic proportions. Leaving the bubblegum blog banger world behind, ISIS has set out to make timeless music; thus the only reason I'm writing about [...]

Our good Friends Jona and Andrew FranDisco put together a sweet little list of the best tracks released on vinyl, they would know the still carry crates. I hosting a New Years party with these two music aficionado's on the Decks alongside Paul Revered and Mr. Charlton. They've got their own style and flavour, you can taste it in their writing, and since we know you're hungry, time for you to eat. __________________________ We are TheFranDiscos ^__^ brothers, DJs, producers, vinyl collectors and music aficionados…we have spun [...]
Well this list was hard. Last year I did a top 20, this year it's a top 10 + 10. The top 10 will not be ranked, however there will be two tiers, my top 10 and my +10. This list probably doesn't even include everything; I've probably missed songs that I like more than some of the songs on the list. I lost a lot of music this year with the crashing of my hard drive into a metaphorical wall. In any case I went through my iTunes and pulled out a handful of the songs that hit me [...]
If there's one unwaivering certainty in this world it's that nothing is quite as tacky as Calgary, Alberta. I grew up here. so I feel a certain entitlement to criticize this wasteland of suburbs and tacky ass bars. When I flew in today I peered out my window and felt just a little sick looking at the vast sprawling developments of cookie cutter townhouses. This is a great track from 2006 by an artist called Grovesnor. I've heard only a limited selection of his music, but he makes pretty enjoyable disco house/synth pop stuff. It looks like he [...]

Photo by Louis Saturnino We asked local Toronto promoter Jonathan C what his top 10 Parties of the year were. 3 trends... Dim Mak, Dubstep and TheJons. ---------------------- 1 ) MSTRKRFT @ TATTOO's TIMEBOMB TUESDAYS -Before the venue even opened at 10pm, there was already a line-up around the block. St.Mandrew opened, and played one of the best sets I've ever heard. The room was packed upstairs and down, mayhem ensued. Best friends & family we're all in the building, kids including myself were crowd [...]
Nina Simone is an iconic jazz singer/songwriter who is sampled frequently but often overlooked as an artist in her own right. The fact is, this incredibly talented musician has been sampled more times than you know, and has a huge catalogue of music that was incredibly popular in her day. The video is from Kanye's 808s and Heartbreak record, where he samples drums from a Nina Simone song called See-Line Woman. The first mp3 is DJ Z-Trip, who I've blogged about on a number of occasions, playing a show in LA in 2003. The song begins [...]

I played this song out a couple weeks ago at the beginning of a disco house set at Wrongbar and it was very well received. I wasn't sure beforehand, and worried that it was too chill for a party, but people danced pretty hard to this one. The massive 1 minute breakdown and buildup starting at 2:20 set people off, and made this song an awesome lead in to the high point of my set. I spent Thanksgiving (Canadian Thanksgiving) Sunday in The Kool Haus @ The Guvernment Nightclub in Toronto. After Diplo brought everyone's jaw to the ground with Jamaican Dancehall culture, Crookers took to the stage. This was the my fourth time hearing one of their sets. They've always played a few for the crowd (Day N' Night, Thunderstruck, etc) and a few for themselves (Bouncy Techno Tracks and other priceless surprises). This set definitely was deeper and darker, appealing to the heads not the head bobbers. They played We Love Animals, their most recent collaboration with Soulwax and Mixhell. I've managed to [...]
Here is an unofficial video for Pariah's remix of the XX's Basic Space. It was shot entirely on a Canon 7d by my good friend Chis (CBot) Leung. Check out his website to see some of his photography and other musings. He's been studying photography at Parsons in NYC and this video definitely shows that its been worth the trip. He's shot a lot of local Toronto DJs as well as fashion editorial etc here in Toronto. This track is awesome, I love the way it feels. Soft to the touch, with soul and radiating warmth. [...]
