Video: Feist – “Bittersweet Melodies”

Feist - Bittersweet Melodies
As much as you can debate the effects of digital photography on the medium, there will always be something intoxicating about a photograph. A literal snapshot of your former self on a day that now exists only in memory is a potent catalyst for the rush of recollections transported through time. In Feist's new video for "Bittersweet Melodies" off last year's stellar  Metals , she uses Argentine photographer Irina Werning's Back to the Future series to highlight the conflicting nostalgia within old photos - the easy pull back into the past against our hard-fought [...]

Feist – Bittersweet Melodies

Feist - Bittersweet Melodies
Leslie Feist ’s 2011 album Metals might sound like a departure for those that know her for indie-pop gems like “Mushaboom” or the song Apple made famous, “1 2 3 4.” There are no cute pop songs on this record, however, only Feist showcasing some of the best balladeering we’ve yet heard from her, and “Bittersweet Melodies” is one of the record’s standouts. It’s a song rife with nostalgia, not only about fondly looking backward, but also about constantly seeing the past in the present. As such it’s fitting that the song’s video is [...]

Video: Feist, “Bittersweet Melodies”

Feist’s video for "Bittersweet Melodies," a song from last fall's Metals LP, at first seems like a zero-budget slideshow of that generally adorable and usually super-sad "Now and Then" style of photographic set piece, in ... read more

Feist – “Bittersweet Memories” Video (NSFW)

There are precious few moving images in Feist's new video for the Metals song "Bittersweet Memories," and Feist isn't in it at all. Instead, director Hollie Singer builds the video out of a montage of Argentian photographer Irina Werner 's "Back To The Future" series, which juxtaposes old and new images, with the aged subjects posed the same way as their younger selves. The whole thing is weirdly sweet, for reasons that are hard to place. NSFW for some boobage. Watch it below. Read More...

Back to the Future Photo Project

Back to the Future Photo Project "I love old photos. I admit being a nosey photographer. As soon as I step into someone else’s house, I start sniffing for them. Most of us are fascinated by their retro look but to me, it’s imagining how people would feel and look like if they were to reenact them today," professes Irina Werning . "A few months ago, I decided to actually do this. So, with my camera, I started inviting people to go back to their future." Above is: INGRID IN 1987 & 2010, Buenos Aires [thanks, [...]
