REID | Ver

'Ver' is the first new material we've heard from Cork produced REID since his terrific debut EP last summer. The track will feature on the Dreams compilation from LYFSTYL music blog and will be available in full on February 14th. 'Ver' is quite different to what we've heard a lot more at ease than what we've heard previously, breaking softer ground it draws you [...]

Listen to Lemonada's TAF Tunes mix

Listen to Lemonada's TAF Tunes mix Trinity Arts Festival asked some DJs & musicians to make some exclusive mixes for the festival. The TAF Tunes series so far features Frankie Grimes, Lan Orquesta and Madhouse DJs but I haven't been able to get past Lemonada's incredibly good mix. It features an artfully put together mix featuring Lunice, Madlib, Machinedrum, Shlohmo, Danny Brown, Dilla and The Delfonics. When Kuhn's 'Slime Beach' hits, that's a moment. I caught Lemonada playing live last week at Electric Lounge alongside Monto and Tenaka, he's got serious DJing chops and this is serious weekend listening. [...]

Preview: Popical Island @ The Pavilion

I've been waiting for this gig for about a year. Squarehead have been one of my favourite bands for absolutely ages but have only graced a Cork stage a handful of occasions, each time managing to coincide with me not being able to get along. But not this time. On [Read more]

The Lost Brothers | So Long John Fante

Simplicity is often an overlooked and unappreciated virtue in music, one not lost on The Lost Brothers. This as before remains their forte, on So Long John Fante, the duo's second album. As does their capacity for soft and delicate folk songs, underlined by delicious, harmonious vocal interchanges between Mark McCausland and Oisin Leech and wonderful acoustic guitar-picking. We are treated [...]

Windings – 'The Space I Occupy' (video)

windings - The Space I Occupy
Busy day of news yesterday for Limerick band Windings yesterday. First of all, there's a video for 'The Space I Occupy', which will form one half of a 73 single that will be released on Out On A Limb next week. Also featured will be 'The Hassle'. I think that [Read more]

Ghost Estates | October

Dublin 5 piece Ghost Estates made quite an impression in the latter half of last year through a number of tasty live shows and two stellar singles, 'Paris' and 'Forever or Never'. They have been quick to introduce 2012 to their delectably tight indie sound, releasing a brand new single, 'October'. If you liked what you [...]

Young Wonder – 'Tumbling Backwards' (Daithí Remix)

Young Wonder – 'Tumbling Backwards' (Daithí Remix) I introduced Cork dub dance pop duo Young Wonder last week who will release their debut EP on Feel Good Lost Records in April. Galway's Daithí has turned in a smashing remix of 'Tumbling Backwards' which is available for download: The original:

REID – 'Ver'

REID has reworked two songs he debuted from his repertoire and will release them on Blah Blah Blah on February 20. But 'Ver' is the first proper, 100 per cent new track we've heard from the Cork artist/producer since that fantastic debut EP last summer. It's going to feature as [Read more]

Funeral Suits – 'All Those Friendly People'

Funeral Suits – 'All Those Friendly People' Dublin-based band Funeral Suits kicked off their year of activity at Eurosonic and here we get a taste of what's ahead with a stream of their new single 'All Those Friendly People', an anthemic sounding song produced by Stephen Street which gets a release on April 19th through Tri-tone/PIAS. It's the most direct the band have sounded so far. They are on a UK tour from later this month. 2012 could be a big year for Brian James, Mik McKeogh, Greg McCarthy and Dar Grant.

Ambience Affair And Trying To Define Success

Jamie from the Ambience Affair wrote an interesting blog post yesterday. You can read it on the band's website here or below. So we're heading into 2012 with a lot of work done and many milestones achieved and I guess it's our aim to keep the ball rolling on our [Read more]

Free Music: Raglans EP | Toe-tappingly infectious Indie from Greystones

Four-man-Wicklow-ensemble Raglans were the first band to be featured on the blog in 2012 and rightfully so. Their lavish toe-tappingly infectious blend of indie, folk and punk is one of the catchiest sounds doing the rounds at the moment. We drop in on them again as they've generously made their self-titled debut EP available for free from [...]

Squarehead – '2025′ (Live for Cock & Bull TV)

Squarehead - 2025 | Cock and Bull TV
I'll finally get to see Squarehead in the flesh on Saturday, Februrary 11, when they play the Pavilion, Cork, with Land Lovers and Tieranniesaur. Until then, this will have to suffice. It's an acoustic version of '20252, the first new track we've heard from the three-piece since they released their [Read more]
